Eaglemoss To Release DC Batman Chess Collection; First Five Fantastic Statues Revealed!

I've seen some great comic book merchandise featured on CBM over the years, but this might just one of the best yet! Set to be released later this month in the US, Batman, Robin, The Joker and more are now chess pieces...

The following collection has apparently been on sale in the UK for the past few months, but the news that they'll now be released in the US was the first I heard about this fantastic set from DC and Eaglemoss! According to Bleeding Cool (there's more images to be found by clicking on the link below, while you'll find the official website HERE) the "DC Chess Collection" will be available in the US from this month, and while it's not a game I'm particularly interested in, I may just have to hunt down the back issues for the amazing figurines alone. They also reveal that it's likely Superman will be next once this series wraps up. For now, here are the first five pieces...

Pretty nice, huh? Which other DC characters would you like to see find themselves as chess pieces? The Green Lantern universe certainly seems like an area ripe for the picking! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

That is pretty damn cool.
Irons - 10/4/2011, 1:34 PM
So Bats is the most useless piece on the board.
Irons - 10/4/2011, 1:35 PM
Nice work though.

I made my own chess set from Eagle Moss figures. i like it better than their pieces here. still, high quality stuff.
headlopper - 10/4/2011, 2:16 PM
I am on the right site? It looks...different.
Cool figures btw. Now all y'all need to learn how to play chess. And 'no' I'm sure it not a conspiracy by the government to get kids away from porn, I..I mean video games, uhhh no , that's not right...SPORTS! THAT'S IT!
No that's not right either...hurmm. Ahhh, reading comics! The government does not want us to STOP reading comics and learn how to play chess. Well, we can still just look at the figurines anyhow.(I know how to play chess, but not with these DC hero pieces).
golden123 - 10/4/2011, 2:17 PM
I love chess!
marvel72 - 10/4/2011, 2:18 PM

golden123 - 10/4/2011, 2:23 PM
@Irons: Well, if they made him the most powerful peice on the board, then he would be a female. So, it was either make him a "useless" king, which is the most important piece on the board, or make him a Queen.

Here is the complete list:
1. BATMAN (WHITE KING)
2. ROBIN (WHITE BISHOP)
3. JOKER (BLACK KING)
4. COM GORDON (WHITE PAWN)
5. TWO-FACE (BLACK KNIGHT)
6. CATWOMAN (WHITE QUEEN)
7. RED HOOD (BLACK PAWN)
8. HUSH (BLACK PAWN)
9. PENGUIN (BLACK KNIGHT)
10. BLACK CANARY (WHITE PAWN)
11. RAS AL GHUL (BLACK BISHOP)
12. KATANA (WHITE PAWN)
13. BLACK MASK (BLACK PAWN)
14. RED ROBIN (WHITE KNIGHT)
15. MR FREEZE (BLACK PAWN)
16. ORACLE (WHITE PAWN)
17. HARLEY QUINN (BLACK QUEEN)
18. BAT MITE (WHITE PAWN)
19. RIDDLER (BLACK BISHOP)
20. HUNTRESS (WHITE ROOK)
21. MAN BAT (BLACK ROOK)
22. BATGIRL (WHITE KNIGHT)
23. VENTRILOQUIST (BLACK PAWN)

Irons - 10/4/2011, 2:25 PM
It's just a little ironic. But yeah, it would probably make even less sense any other way.

bsalinas - 10/4/2011, 4:06 PM
I just tried to get the set and they are already sold out of it, so if this set peaks ur interest then i suggest that you keep looking for the Supes set
Pokeysteve - 10/4/2011, 4:20 PM
Wow this is pretty cool. I've always thought about a Justice League Chess board but I guess Batman will have to do for now.

I think Poison Ivy should have been Black Queen but Quinn makes more sense.
write33 - 10/4/2011, 5:37 PM
if anybody is curious, here is my EagleMoss set from existing pieces
Justice League vs. Avengers (tried to go classic with the lineups)

Too bad Nolan couldn't have had his Batman looking like this.
nickh0801 - 10/5/2011, 10:22 AM
Each individual piece (32 in all) only cost $16.00. So the grand total (not including shipping) is $512.00!!! But the chess board is free... I'll pass!!!

nickh0801 - 10/5/2011, 12:21 PM
Because huge boobs are awesome!!!!
teethsoup - 10/5/2011, 1:41 PM
@nuck82 they are 16 dollars each but it adds up to about that for a complete set.
GLprime2814 - 10/5/2011, 2:30 PM
So these are going to be like 15 a piece.
SpiderFan35 - 10/10/2011, 9:46 PM
@write33: Those are cool. But you don't think anyone would want to have a marvel vs. dc battle do you? No one on this site anyway...
CliveTurner - 10/19/2011, 7:29 AM
These are only just appearing in Diamond in the UK - usually a 2-3 month lead in so not expected in UK until end of year. Think that's why web site is showing 'no longer available' on the subscription page - it should be 'not yet available'. Know from experience that Eaglemoss customer support is fairly crap.
dehydra - 5/1/2012, 12:54 PM
I'm not particularly a Batman, or even a chess fan, but being a collector of interesting items, I have subscribed to this collection from the UK. I have the first seven pieces / magazines and the first binder / file. I have to say I am very happy with the quality. The order in which the chess pieces are released in the UK seems slightly different from the US, but that hardly matters. And if you are a fan of DC comics, superheroes, chess, or simply collecting quality figurines, you are going to love these. It ain't cheap whichever way you look at it but if you ask me whether it's worth the money - hell yes! Awesome collection. In the UK you can cancel subscription at any time - but once you get the first few you wont want to. But a word of caution, some optional 'special pieces' are offered, two of which are costing me an extra £17.99 for two alternative Batman / Joker King pieces from 'The Dark Knight Returns' (which will no doubt become available in the USA), but I can't resist. This is quite an expensive hobby, but well worth the cash.
