PG-13 'World War Z' Ends Before it Begins?

Brad Pitt’s World War Z Could Be (Un)Dead If Paramount Can’t Find a Partner

Vulture is reporting that World War Z, Brad Pitt’s movie about a global undead apocalypse, may be dying (or is it re-dying?) unless Paramount can find a co-financier.

The site reports that the film currently has a price tag of more than $125 million, and the studio is fervently searching for a partner to share the risk. If they can't find one, it's likely that Paramount will pull the plug on the adaptation of the Max Brooks book, which was to be directed by Quantum of Solace's Marc Forster and star Pitt, who would also produce.

Here's the odd part of the report, Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman insists to Vulture, "We're really committed to making a big, kick-ass giant movie with Marc Forster and Brad Pitt." Although, Goodman also stated that Paramount signed a deal with Forster assuring them of a PG-13 cut. Erg.

The book is a sober telling of the aftermath of a war fought against a legion of humans who were inflicted with a virus, died and were reanimated into flesh-eating zombies. This is one story I cannot see as PG-13...

i f*cking love zombie movies & tv show.

world war z had the potential to be one of the best zombie movies ever.

District 9 had a budget of 30 million dollars, and you're telling me a movie that's hardly that different in tone and narrative structure but with zombies is somehow difficult to finance?

I read the book, simply put PG-13 in this type of movie won't sell, especially if you want it to be anything close to the awesomeness of the novel.

And what absolutely BLOWS me away with making films pg-13 that are OBVIOUSLY meant to be a hard r rating is that the parents of the kids are ok with them seeing the FILM version if it's PG-13, BUT...would those same parents want their kids reading the novel, which is soooo not a pg-13 novel? Probably not.

This book was intended for adults. Why can't the movie be the same way? The same audience that made the book popular will pay to see the movie.

I also read somewhere, and don't quote me on this one, that the producers of Preacher are intending on a PG-13 for that also. Probably bogus, but who knows anymore?
