MCU: Crossbones To Return With Costume. Could Show Up In Any Marvel Movie

The next time we see Frank Grillo's Crossbones it will most likely be in a mask reminiscent of his comic book counterpart. Grillo also hints that his character could show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe prior to Captain America 3.

Crossbones screen time in Captain America: The Winter Solider was not  necessarily robust, but it was very, very effective.  Hence, there's a small but growing contigent of fans anxiously awaiting the next on screen appearance of the Captain America foe.  However, in a new interview with ScreenCrush, Grillo hints that former Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., HYDRA double-agent Brock Rumlow, could turn up in a film that's not a standalone Captain America feature.   First, Grillo has to stop himself from gushing about the designs for his new costume, "You know, they are so– I have to tell you…," but unfortunately, Grillo stops himself before giving anything substantial away.  However, he does go on to add, "Yeah, his face is burned. If you read the comics about Crossbones, you know, Marvel always takes their interpretation of the comics. It’s exciting."   And when asked if he could be the bad guy version of Black Widow, meaning that he's capable of showing up in any MCU film, Grillo stated, "He could show up in anything. He could have his own thing. He could really have his own thing."

Perhaps there's a chance that Crossbones make's an appearance in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron?  Or maybe there's a Crossbones Marvel One-Shot in the cards?  However, there was a nice Falcon vs Crossbones subtext developed in The Winter Soldier that I'm sure the Russo brothers will not abandon in the third Captain America movie.  I'd wager that Rumlow simply gets up to some mischief prior to the next Cap movie which is currently slated for release on May 6, 2016, giving Rumow time to show up in Avengers:AOU, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Daredevil Netflix series.

Well, with the Avengers acting as the new SHIELD, he's gotta go after them at some point.
Dunejedi - 6/18/2014, 2:04 AM
Yes, to all of the above appearances.
Maven - 6/18/2014, 2:05 AM
Oh shite Grillo was on The Shield? Don't remember him.
dethpillow - 6/18/2014, 2:09 AM
no, i'd been thinking for some reason, i guess, that they'd already said in some way that Crossbones was gonna be in Avengers 2. maybe it was a bunch of rumors.

but i've been assuming that he's part of Struckers crew at the start of the movie. along with Wanda and Pietro and maybe even another character. that makes sense to me.

Captain America #360(1st Appearance of Crossbones)

I thought he was pretty badass in TWS.
JordanKing - 6/18/2014, 2:19 AM
Hate to be that guy but.. Could*
Bl00dwerK - 6/18/2014, 2:22 AM
Britches! LOL...

@Merc
I have that comic! I think he only appears in the last panel of the story. He's looking at Cap from the distance with binoculars if i'm not wrong.
Doopie - 6/18/2014, 2:23 AM
I liked him in Cap2 so a return is welcome in my eyes. Think it might be good for Crossbones to actually kill someone (like a semi-main character) to set him up as a badass and show there is some real danger in the MCU
Mercwitham0uth - 6/18/2014, 2:24 AM
Hope he wears a mask that's sort of like this:

@MrZurEnArrh

Yup he's in the shadows too so you don't get a clear look at him until the next issue. Anyway, issue #360 is a $20 comic since the movie came out.

Baron Zemo + Crossbones = Cap 3 villain.

But if Red Skull is returning, Crossbones will be likely a key character then will be in Avengers 3 as a member of Masters of Evil. I wouldn't be shocked if Thanos is saved for Phase 4, but we better see him in Avengers 3.

Typo with "coud" in title. Good news though, showing up in AoU is cool just hope it's not crammed in, it needs to seem natural.
dethpillow - 6/18/2014, 2:45 AM
that's one of the crazy things about these movies too, is they really do affect the prices sometimes.
csdot - 6/18/2014, 2:47 AM
@merc actually the previous issue is really his first appearance, though only in shadow. I have a copy signed by Al Milgrom
NeoBaggins - 6/18/2014, 2:48 AM
@dethpillow

Did Rob Liefeld draw that, or is that a headless Cap with a Wolf in the background.
MsDarkPhoenix - 6/18/2014, 2:53 AM
He was great imo!!! I'd love to see him again with a costume :) He seems like a cool guy on twitter too
pepe - 6/18/2014, 3:00 AM
Good news... IF it happens...
jmartinez986 - 6/18/2014, 3:00 AM
i wonder if they would have him make an appearence in one of the marvel netflix shows..
0megaDaGod - 6/18/2014, 3:08 AM
He was popping off about showing up in AoU before Cap2 came out, and now he's seen a costume despite the fact that Cap3 hasn't even been written yet

I sense a Grillo sighting in the next 12 months
Namor - 6/18/2014, 3:13 AM
I'm excited. Obviously we all wanted to see him with his Mask and be more a brutal tough to take out brawler, and we haven't got that yet. We got a nice introduction to him but we all knew it was prob gonna be more of a intro then only Crossbones appearence.
Starkasm - 6/18/2014, 3:15 AM
Omega

You are correct, sir.

Seriously can't wait for AOU. It is going to be absolutely massive.
I think it'll leapfrog one of Cameron's films for either highest or second highest grossing film of all time.
They'll be getting all my money as they did the The Avengers. Saw it 8 times in it's theatrical run and once more on a Iron Man marathon before IM3.
JoJo1982 - 6/18/2014, 3:15 AM
Hey maybe be in a Thunderbolts movie
Doopie - 6/18/2014, 3:17 AM
Capwolf is just terrible. That really ran for 6 issues??
JoJo1982 - 6/18/2014, 3:17 AM
@omega

Lol yep I remember him confirming he was in avengers 2 and cap3.
Then he got Hush mouth about it later
Namor - 6/18/2014, 3:18 AM
Anyone think Scott Speedman would be a good Baron Zemo?
Dud - 6/18/2014, 3:24 AM
And this movie just got that much bigger!
dethpillow - 6/18/2014, 3:30 AM
@NeoBaggins - hahaha, totally... for some reason this has always been one of my favorite covers, and i actually checked just now to see who... and it's this guy Danny Bulanadi.

and it's funny also because while checking just now, a lot of his stuff really does seem influenced by Liefeld. i guess it was around same time.

SuperCat - 6/18/2014, 3:32 AM
Should be in the next Avengers film.
Maven - 6/18/2014, 3:40 AM
Just checked. The source that broke the casting of Grillo in 2012 also scooped that his 3-picture deal included AoU.

He was awesome in Cap 2. Don't really care where he turns up next just as log as he's there. Bring on Falcon v Crossbones round 2!

If the second season of Agents of SHIELD picks up directly from the events and the tone of CATWS, I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up there before any place else.
DropAload - 6/18/2014, 3:57 AM
I'm pretty shure it'll be agents of mediocrity .
Ruhail - 6/18/2014, 4:00 AM
Cool man can't wait.
