Transformers: Age of Extinction is poised to open next weekend, and box office analysts are predicting, massive box office numbers. Specifically, the film looks poised to open for a $100 M USD weekend! MTV recently cornered the film's producer, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, and asked him about why the time was right to introduce the DinoBots, the possibility of a G.I. Joe crossover and more.
Di Bonaventura on a Transformers/G.I. Joe mash-up movie. No, we haven't spent a moment on it. I know they did it in the comic books, but I think the reality that we're looking at is...it's hard enough to figure out how to do it alone and [then] trying to figure out how to do it together...I don't think that it's as organic as people think. I know a lot of the fans feel that way and I don't think they're wrong. I find it a harder thing to do, think about trying to combine the schedules of all the different people. So, that alone will probably stop us.

I guess a TMNT crossover is off the cards too, not that that would suck any less
bbarber2323 - 6/21/2014, 10:53 AM
Could happen....
grif - 6/21/2014, 10:53 AM
these movies cant get any worse so why not [frick] em up more?
GUNSMITH - 6/21/2014, 10:56 AM
I'D WATCH IT BUT THERES MORE STUFF TRANSFORMERS COULD SHOW US
TheWolfman - 6/21/2014, 10:57 AM
I'd honestly love to see a crossover, use GI Joe human characters instead of creating fillers with so BSbback story. Right now, if the plot points are true then the current Transformer movie sets a cross over perfrctly. IMO.
Jollem - 6/21/2014, 10:57 AM
i could care less if there was a crossover or not. it'd be cool, but i wouldn't mind if it didn't happen
JoJo1982 - 6/21/2014, 10:58 AM
It be cool
They should do it soon
HurricaneXavier - 6/21/2014, 10:58 AM
It would be interesting to see. I'm shocked they aren't doing it, I'm sure it would make a TON of money.
TheDarkPassenger - 6/21/2014, 11:00 AM
Transformers is fine, but they need to get G.I.Joe right first. Start over from scratch.
BboiBlack - 6/21/2014, 11:08 AM
nice to know that unlike marvel these producers don't just turn to cross overs for making money
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 6/21/2014, 11:15 AM
How about adding Ninja Turtles to that as well? You know, being that all three franchises have gone to shit.
MrSuperheromoviefan - 6/21/2014, 11:16 AM
Bleh
First, [frick]ing reboot Transformers no Micheal Bay
[frick] you prodocer don't do it
i won't pay to see it
KidGoku - 6/21/2014, 11:17 AM
[frick] YES
TheBaroness89 - 6/21/2014, 11:19 AM
Its easy. Replace the lame ass marines that Bay always seems to need and replace them with Joes. Marvel can do Avengers but the GI Joe team is difficult to crossover with cgi robots?
SuperCat - 6/21/2014, 11:21 AM
God, the G.I. Joe movies really suck!
JaySin420 - 6/21/2014, 11:30 AM
I was right about to comment what TheBaroness said.

Remove the marines...add the Joe's...and done.

Well, while I do love a lot of crossovers this would be a combination of two franchises that a) I don't care about the least and that b) between the two of them so far managed to make ONE movie out of five somewhat enjoyable (Transformers).

So as far as I'm concerned: do whatever you like with the franchises! d(^_^)
TheBrotherhood - 6/21/2014, 11:39 AM
I think people will only take this cross-over seriously IF Disney buy Hasbro...calling it...Bob Iger's last conquest before stepping down as Chairman.
GliderMan - 6/21/2014, 11:41 AM
[frick] I was really looking forward to it.
LEEE777 - 6/21/2014, 11:52 AM
I commented about a GI JOE crossover yesterday in a Transformers article, cool if it ever happens!

Hell, they don't need a full crossover at first, like a cameo of General Hawk in the next Transformer flick will do and some Easter Eggs!!!

Can even have ties to BATTLESHIP too!

A Hasbro-verse! ;P

Cool find @ Mark :thumbs.
0bstreperous - 6/21/2014, 12:03 PM
I'd watch it
Destined - 6/21/2014, 12:13 PM
I would be down to see it happen.
storyteller - 6/21/2014, 12:25 PM
What's not organic?

It's like chocolate and peanut butter. It basically prints money.
pointman - 6/21/2014, 12:27 PM
I would love to see this happen. I thought I would love to see the previous movies, but given the past treatment, I pass.
Zuriel - 6/21/2014, 12:51 PM
I think we should round up everyone involved in the making of these two franchises, plus the new Turtles movie, put them on a far and deserted island and let them do whatever they want!
TheRealRemyLebeau - 6/21/2014, 12:58 PM
Only would work with a clean reboot of G.I. Joe that is similar to the special ops team in transformers. That's organic. I would see that film a multiple times. Can't lose with that crossover. Maybe as a grand finale film for Transformers and a jumping point for a G.I. Joe reboot.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 6/21/2014, 1:01 PM
Also Michael Bay is an ACTION GENIUS!!
Enphlieuwince - 6/21/2014, 1:14 PM
I'm down. G.I.Joe movies may not be the best but neither are Transformers at this point. I'm really excited about AoE though. That Grimlock transformation on the bridge got me pumped.

I really want ThunderCats, Silver Hawks & Tigersharks to crossover in live action. That would be amazing...
3XmenAndaBabyHope - 6/21/2014, 1:17 PM
Do they really think the people watching these movies care if they logically connect the franchises? The audience just wants to see some mindless action. All you have to do is replace the military in the transformers movies with gi joe characters, what's so hard about that?
MeanDeanMachine - 6/21/2014, 1:21 PM
GI Joe is dogshit. At least Transformers has built a decent universe to work in. Only way I'd consider it is if Dwayne Johnson was involved.
Philvis - 6/21/2014, 1:48 PM
I'm still waiting for my 1.25 refund from Redbox for GI Joe: Retaliation. Enduring garbage like that entitles me to safely download 30 movies from a bit torrent without repercussion. All 3 Transformers are like Citizen Kane in quality when compared to the garbage known as GI Joe, so the Transformers don't need them bringing their films down.
DeusExSponge - 6/21/2014, 1:52 PM
So we'll have ninjas taking down Transformers? Cool
skullboy - 6/21/2014, 3:20 PM
Only if they bring back the characters they killed off.
OstrichBane - 6/21/2014, 3:52 PM
Snake Eyes vs Megatron. I can dig it.
yingyangpalms - 6/21/2014, 4:14 PM
What would be the point? The Transformers films are some of the worst movies ever made yet they make lots of money. Transformers 4 will be a horrible film but likely do 1.5 billion worldwide.

Adding GI Joe to a Transformers film would just be a Transformers film with a much higher budget, meaning much less profit. And the movie would do the same business with or without GI Joe.

And any idea that GI Joe box office would grow to Transformers proportions after the team up is unrealistic. To increase GI Joe numbers the films need less talking and more destruction porn.

Then the Transformers audience will come!
beane2099 - 6/21/2014, 4:40 PM
I still think Bay should direct a GI Joe movie. That's a better fit for him than Transformers. The military scenes in his Transformers flicks are exactly what we want to see in a Joe movie.
mgeoff88 - 6/21/2014, 5:18 PM
If both of these movie franchises were actually good, this would be exciting.

The G.I. Joe movies are worse than the Transformers movies, but that's not really saying much.
mgeoff88 - 6/21/2014, 5:18 PM
@LEEE LOL!
Jhuntdaprodigy - 6/21/2014, 6:25 PM
How would they explain the fact that there wasn't even a hint of any Transformers during the first few G.I. Joe movies though?
