Quite a lot happened in this episode. Oliver (Stephen Amell) was saved by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) but he was not pleased that Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) and Diggle (David Ramsey) revealed his secret identity. We also saw a ton of super strength SFX on display thanks to Miracle/ Mirakuru. Cyrus Gold (Graham Shiels) once again put a serious hurting on Oliver but we also saw the drugs' effects on Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett). It will be interesting to see how the flashback stories on the island progress as Shado (Celina Jade) was killed by 'Professor' Ivo (Dylan Neal) but Slade says that whoever was responsible would feel his wrath. The obvious conclusion would be that he will find out that Oliver chose to save Sara (Caity Lotz) and so Slade will blame him but it's never a good idea to assume the obvious on Arrow. Then there's also the previous reveals that Ollie thought Sara was dead and that he's defeated someone with Mirakuru before (presumably Slade). There's still lots of foreshadowed island storyline to come in the flashback segments. The last few minutes were an absolute blast, as Arrow set up the birth of a "true" Solomon Grundy, Barry seemingly got his powers, and Arrow got his domino mask. The mask is a nice addition but it's still not difficult to tell that's Oliver underneath it. Maybe a fake beard will be next to complete his superhero costume?

Meanwhile, Barry (guest star Grant Gustin) continues to help Felicity, and their connection grows stronger. The Arrow asks Lance (Paul Blackthorne) to look into Gold, but when the stakeout on Gold goes bad, someone is killed. The CW Arrow season 2

"After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine."

So friggin awesome. Sucks we have to wait ages now for the Flash show to kick off. Slade looks so friggin badass! I remember from the pilot when Oli sees the ship at the beginning, we see an arrow through the deathstroke mask on the right eye. So s**ts about to get intense on the island I hope, unless that doesn't happen for ages. There's definitely going to be a showdown at the end of Season 2 between present Oli and Slade so that's going to be insane. Also Roy now has super strength? Does this mean when he becomes Red Arrow he will be better than Oli? And does he become aggressive like Cyrus and Slade? So many questions I won't get answered until it resumes next year :( but all-round it was a wonderful mid season finale.

A part of me was also begging for Zod's message from Man Of Steel to pop up, but I'm honestly happy without it because the episode excelled at everything else. It's just going to suck as the show goes on to obviously avoid any Batman/Wonder Woman/Superman appearances or mentions.

I am simply stunned and amazed... Best episode of season 2 in my opinion and that says a lot, because every episode in this season was just epic.

Tonight's episode was dope.

But man Roy with the mirakuru? Can we get Ollie some of this? Or maybe Roy losing it,
he shouldn't out power Ollie, not that it won't fit, more that he is Ollie's sidekick and it just doesn't feel right. Either they both have it or they both don't.

It could be cool, that Ollie becomes slightly meta-human, would make Batman cooler and would make Batman and Ollie less analogous, would give the green arrow a 'unique selling point' if you will. If you put the JLA together on a squad you would then have all those meta-humans and then Batman, everyone would have shelf-presence. Batman - Peak human and avengeful, Oliver Queen - Master Archer - Meta-human etc.

What say you guys?

I'll state that this episode in my personal opinion was fantastic. Only because i was surprised that Barry Allen acquires his abilities. This is basically the beginning of The Flash and i'm really looking forward to the new series which is to debut next year.

This is why I love serialized superheroes over movies. You can build, have multiple plots, have prolonged anticipation. Love it!

Also, I am glad the action hasn't waned in season two.

Only complaining comes from the gf who notes the decline of screen time given to shirtles men . Oh well.

I think Barry will find an "antidote" to miracle when he comes back later in the season. Oliver will fight Slade and be outmatched because of miracle. Oliver will discover that Roy also has miracle in his blood. Oliver will bring roy in and Barry will create an antidote for miracle using roy's blood. Flash, diggle, felicity and roy administer the antidote to the army of superthugs that slade is creating. Oliver has a showdown with slade. End of the season, roy is given antidote and oliver tgakes him under his wing... Red Arrow.

They do such an excellent job using the source material and bringing it to TV.

@Element36

You bring up an interesting point. Comic book fans and those familiar with the source material have overwhelming loved this season. However, I am curious to hear the opinions of those who have no clue who these characters are other than being introduced due to the show. I hope that they find the acting, action, plot twist, and character development as good as we do. Remember, this show is on the CW, which target audience is Women 18-34. For the longevity of the show, I hope that they keep some elements that appeal to them, even if it will irk comic book fans.

Guys you think the deathstroke that attacked "the Hood" in the first season was Slade Wilson ?? I don't remember what happened to him.

Hey, why do the chemicals splash in slow motion before Barry gets struck by Lightning? Did he super speed before the strike? I'm confused.
Luminus
Luminus - 12/12/2013, 5:03 AM
Or did the particle accelerator explosion cause it?
Luminus

@soforizo: The chemicals are shown slowly rising out of their containers just before Barry is struck.

I think Luminus is talking about a few seconds before the lighting strike, where Barry is just starting to pull the chains and the room shakes a little bit, you can see some of the liquids starting to slowly rise out of the beakers right before the explosion, then the lightning strikes Barry and he gets hit with the blast. Barry doesn't have the speed at that point though, he is just merely standing there holing the chains while everything else is happening. Kinda like a deer in headlights frozen. lol

Just ridiculously good TV. I almost got a little verklempt when "Barry's accident" happened. So excited for the future of Arrow and Flash.
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 12/12/2013, 5:26 AM
@luminus, pasto, soforizo... i think he's already gotten a dose of speed force that blasted out of the explosion, and that's why the chemicals are moving slowly in his perception. it washes over the whole city but it goes through him because he's in circuit, which is why he stares at the chains he's holding as he realizes what's happening. then the lightning/chemicals combo "seals" the speed force inside him and we see it as the red static beneath his skin.
