NBC's CONSTANTINE Described As Dark, Witty And Scary

"There is dark, interesting stuff in [the Constantine pilot], but it’s also got some witty banter. It’s a fun tone, although the supernatural stuff is scary." NBC's chairman also touched on the possibility of the Hellblazer show crossing over with The CW and Fox DC Comics programs.

Constantine NBC tv series

Here's NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt on the network's Constantine tv series that was recently ordered to pilot [via IGN]. Said Greenblatt, "I don’t know the DC comic very well, but there is dark, interesting stuff in it, but it’s also got some witty banter. It’s a fun tone, although the supernatural stuff is scary." And on the ever-present question of crossover potential with the other DC shows (Arrow and Flash on CW, Gotham on Fox), Greenblatt would only say, "Cross-network is really hard. It’s hard enough to do it within your network. I think let us see how the pilot goes before we answer that question!” David Goyer (Batman vs Superman) and Daniel Cerone (Dexter, The Mentalist) are executive producing the project for NBC. Stay tuned to find out if Constantine gets a full season order or ends up like the peacock network's last DC Comics project (Wonder Woman) which never made it past the pilot stage.

Looking forward to the Constantine tv show.

Never miss an opportunity to advertise something as dark. It's synonymous with high quality around these parts.
MetahumanAbominationKlone - 1/20/2014, 4:15 AM
I would love some DC material on AMC or HBO. Two networks I trust.
Kurne - 1/20/2014, 4:15 AM
Uh oh, it has some witty banter with a fun tone KILL ME-- oh wait, it's not from Marvel Studios so a DC/WB property with humor should be perfect.

Yeah, no need for 4 pages discussing humor because this is a DC Comics property and we must support it all the way dammit!
Kurne - 1/20/2014, 4:18 AM
On a serious note, I am very much looking forward to this, especially because it's on NBC. As for a crossover between NBC and The CW... Like he said, it's hard, but it's possible. I'm sure WB will attempt to make a crossover happen. It only makes one look better than the other, so why not?
TelaVizion - 1/20/2014, 4:23 AM
There won't be a crossover, so stop asking for one.
TelaVizion - 1/20/2014, 4:23 AM
lmao @ Kurne
TelaVizion - 1/20/2014, 4:24 AM
So they're saying it will/should be like Supernatural. If that's true, then they have a hit on their hands
MsSlothPhoenix - 1/20/2014, 4:29 AM

loki668 - 1/20/2014, 4:34 AM

BlackSun77 - 1/20/2014, 4:46 AM
I hate to say it but that chap who portrays Klaus in the Originals would make a good John Constantine, No?
JasonBlue - 1/20/2014, 4:49 AM

Hellblazer is an amazing comic book run. At 300 issues it reached very dark and very gritty points in the comics.

John Constantine is British and he is a bit of Cockney. Constantine was based on the looks of Sting, according to Alan Moore.

If this even comes close to resembling the film, then frick it.

Constantine is in and out of Hell in the comics, pulls a few fast ones on The Swamp Thing, gets caught up with Satan, who tries to thwart him again and again. He imbibes demon blood, stops serial killers, walks with the ghost of JFK, etc...

I have no high expectations for this, whatsoever. Can a TV budget really serialise all this wide ranging madness, and bring it all to life? If it is not mainly set in London, it is going to fail my simple standards.

I need convincing that this will not be utterly atrocious. I mean worse than SHIELD currently is.
bellEND - 1/20/2014, 5:18 AM
What's the bet they will make it like the Angel TV series.
Facade - 1/20/2014, 5:21 AM
I'll won't be surprised if it's similar to half the crap of the CW or Dracula.
monkeyballs - 1/20/2014, 5:28 AM
LOL @Loki666
QuestiontheAnswer - 1/20/2014, 5:28 AM
@BlackSun The Originals is pretty popular so don't expect that casting.
QuestiontheAnswer - 1/20/2014, 5:30 AM
How is witty banter similar to AoS overkill repetition jokes? Constantine is more of a sarcastic guy.
JJJameson - 1/20/2014, 5:33 AM
I don't usually post on these TV series announcements because I think all of them suck. I actually liked the first episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I didn't find the time to keep up with the series after the first episode.

In other hand, after laughing my ass off from some not intentionally funny stuff from Arrow's pilot, I could never get pumped to finished seing that thing fully. It's just sad that Warner won't let their superheroes get a big screen treatment but sell the rights away for TV series.

Wouldn't it better if Warner sold the rights for Hellblazer to Universal, Sony, Paramount or Fox? I just feel that ANY other studio would make a better use of the DC Comics characters other than Warner Bros.
MrDonut - 1/20/2014, 5:34 AM
Make it like a darker and more darkly humoured Hannibal n u'd b sorted... Tbh, I didn't hate Keanu's film but obviously would like it more faithful and at the very least make him a Londoner if not from Liverpool.
Godzillafart - 1/20/2014, 5:40 AM
It would make me very happy if this is good.
monkeyballs - 1/20/2014, 5:41 AM

Crossover with the other shows and crossover with "Man of Steel" please!
mctrinket - 1/20/2014, 6:30 AM
They will screw it up. I'd be more optomistic if this were not on a major network but something like AMC or HBO.
FerFogs - 1/20/2014, 6:36 AM
Hope it's good, the comic is so badass!
jimoakley666 - 1/20/2014, 6:37 AM
British Constantine or [frick] off. Simple as that.

@RonanTheAccuser - He's not a "cockney". Cockney's are from London. He's from Liverpool. That's like saying someone from New York is from Texas. Completely different accents.
P862010 - 1/20/2014, 6:38 AM
just give it the tone of supernatural
Ceejay - 1/20/2014, 6:41 AM
If they can deliver the production values and quality writing they produced for Hannibal then I'm in 100%.

If they treat it like those campy CW shows and aim it at teenage girls like Smallville, Arrow and Vampire Diaries then they'll have another Wonder Woman blunder on their hands. There's only so much pretty casting and excuses to show bare chested men you can cover that crap up for the fanboy vote of approval with cheesy costumes and over choreographed fight scenes. Neither of which has any business in a Hellblazer adaptation.
Humby - 1/20/2014, 6:44 AM
Who else thinks Constantine will be cast as some 21 year old looking youngster, lacking all qualities of the actual character?

Anyone?

Anyone?
Grimfoe - 1/20/2014, 6:51 AM
I think it's great they're going to include humor and keep it light.

Have fun with that, DC fanboys.
Arrowhead77 - 1/20/2014, 6:51 AM
So you are saying there is a chance! Yahh! Make it like Supernatural and I will watch.
