Arthur and Lancelot may be dead at Warner Bros. but the history-rich film studio is not abandoning their quest to turn the legend of King Arthur to a bankable film franchise. Deadline reports that Guy Ritchie is currently considering a lead role in getting a 6-part King Arthur fantasy series for WB. The genesis of the project comes from the mind of Joby Harold (Awake, Edge of Tomorrow) who has already written the script for the first movie. Little is known about the project but it will reportedly reintroduce the magical elements of Arthurian lore after prior films sought to tell a more realistic version of the legend.

Prior to this current attempt, WB had Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) starring as the leads in Arthur and Lancelot and was close to securing Gary Oldamn (The Dark Knight Rises) to play Merlin.

And if Ritchie does decide to take on this massive project, was does it mean for the chances of another Sherlock Holmes installment with Robert Downey Jr.?

Warner Brothers seems to love, re-using old stories
GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:10 AM
For a second there i thought this would be about Aquaman: Arthur Curry, King of the 7 seas.

I was like "WTF, This guy is 45, he cant be Aquaman"
then I read the rest.

@Bravado
I wish they'd at least funded 2 DC films a year.
some dont even have to be big budget films, there are some characters that DONT require a $200 million budget.
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:18 AM
Eh
Just because they do a King Arthur movie doesn't mean they won't do DC movies

A King Arthur series could be another LOTR/ hobbit type of thing

1) origin
Uther pendragon / Merlin / sword in the stone
2) rise of Camelot
Arthur's early adventure / lady of the lake / Excalibur
3) vs Morgan le Fay
4) holy grail
5) lancelots betrayal fall of Camelot
6) Arthur's last quest / le morte de Arthur

JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:20 AM
For crying out loud they announced mos 2 an unspecified (will be justice league) and a Wonder Woman solo in addition to several tv series
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:21 AM
Guy Ritchie is ok but the second Sherlock was to chuckle house I'd hate to see a campy zoo fish King Arthur series

@JudgeDoom
If Arrow and Flash are connected to the DCCU, then I'm cool with no Flash standalone movie as long as the Flash show is good and he gets to be the Flash in JL.
GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:29 AM
Or maybe have Wally West was the JL's flash but make him do Cameos in the Flash show.
Ace101 - 1/28/2014, 3:33 AM
Finally i may yet still get to see king arthurs stories done right on screen.
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:35 AM
With arrow, flash, Gotham, hourman, Constantine on tv, a batman superman team up and inevitable spin offs after that and some people lose their sh*t over WB making other kinds of movies

Retards
GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:40 AM
@JorL
most of those shows you mention haven't been aired.
Only pilots are in the works, which means theres still a chance that these shows dont get picked up to series.
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:40 AM
I'm not saying WB shouldn't make more cbms but I hate to break it to you WB is going to do many many cilmstht aren't DC

They are going to do rom coms, westerns, political thrillers, comedies, dramas, bio pics, fantasy sci fi, legal dramas, historical pieces, action stunt movies, animated family movies and so on.

If you lose your sh*t for every WB movie that isn't DC then you're going to need more prozac
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:41 AM
Many "films"
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:41 AM
I wish we could edit posts dammit
GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:42 AM
@JorL
As for the show "Gotham" i hear its gonna be like Smallville focusing on a young batman thats in highschool.

which TBH, i dont mind, because i liked Smallville.
Brainiac13 - 1/28/2014, 3:42 AM
This has fail all over this!!!! I can take 1 film but six.......[frick]ing boring!!!!!!!!

GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:47 AM
@JorL
WB released 20 Films in 2013.
You'd think they would at least have had 2 of those films (10%) being DC films.

and they have Another 20 Films set for 2014, and none of them are DC related.
SaxoWolf - 1/28/2014, 3:48 AM
this might be interesting. but in the meantime WB/DC could speed up the production of movies for Flash and Aquaman.
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:51 AM
I DO think WB should do more DC

But with 20 or so flicks a year that's 20 times a year for people to kvetch
GoldSlayer1 - 1/28/2014, 3:58 AM
@JorL
Im not saying make 5-6 films in a year.

but 1-2 films doesn't sound unreasonable given the large amount of Characters and stories that come from DC. (JL, Titans, GL Corps, etc)
While there are TV shows, theres nothing set up for the big screen in both 2014 and 2015.
Nubase - 1/28/2014, 4:02 AM
My word guys there more to the movie industry then comic book movies lol, WB have the money make anything they want.

As for the DC movies they are coming
revloveR - 1/28/2014, 4:03 AM
@ jorl5150

lmao at inevitable spinoffs. they're not doing shit. and what are you 5? using terms like retard? i don't understand why you're defensive about it. they don't care anywhere near as much as you seem to in defending it.

they're setting up PAN the first of which took BvS spot in 2015 as a tentpole. they're making 6 king arthur films. 6!

when potter was having his day it was understandable they didn't bother with the dc properties. It was understandable when they've had the hobbit bringing in the cash, but the last of which is going to be released this year. GL and Returns blew up in their face. the apprehension is understandable. to pretend that they're as enthused with making an expanded dc universe is laughable. LAUGHABLE.

they're making JL. and that's it. if it is the success they'd hope for, then they'll start thinking about making other movies.
breakUbatman - 1/28/2014, 4:03 AM
Screw Holmes what about THE REAL ROCKNROLLA ?!
TelaVizion - 1/28/2014, 4:07 AM
Put Guy behind the film and I'll definitely watch. He does not disappoint. I would love to see him make a comic book movie for Marvel. Hell, he can help out DC/WB with their problems
TelaVizion - 1/28/2014, 4:09 AM
DC wouldn't have some of their problems if WB would just allow them to make their own movies. DC could be successful if they made their own movies.
TheOverlord - 1/28/2014, 4:11 AM
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
breakUbatman - 1/28/2014, 4:12 AM
@0mega

I love it too. I'm happy Guy has dipped his feet into Hollywood Blockbusters but can he give us more of what we love him for. Please

He's like Tarantino for me, lot's of imitators but only he makes that type of movie just right.
Zordan - 1/28/2014, 4:18 AM
maybe somebody misunderstood, maybe wb wants him for OTHER king arthur
AFRICANNERD - 1/28/2014, 4:33 AM
Really,how many times has King Arthur been done before?
SaxoWolf - 1/28/2014, 4:37 AM
Guy Ritchie could be a good choice to direct the Justice League movie.
mgeoff88 - 1/28/2014, 4:46 AM
If Warner Bros. wants this King Arthur franchise to replace the success of the Harry Potter franchise, they would have much better luck focusing on releasing more CBMs.

CBMs are very hot right now, and have no sign of slowing down.
Zordan - 1/28/2014, 4:46 AM
MAKE THE OTHER KING ARTHUR WITH MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY!! WHOS WITH ME?

SnapperCarr - 1/28/2014, 5:16 AM
Why can't we get King Arthur of Atlantis aka AQUAMAN?!?
Kurne - 1/28/2014, 5:30 AM
@1to10

"where will you hide then"

Hmm, depends... Where were you hiding during Avengers?
duncboy - 1/28/2014, 6:09 AM
I can picture Matthew McConaughey or Brad Pitt as actors who can bring credibility to Aquaman. I never thought I'd put those 2 in the same sentence, but MM has been killing it lately and from what I've read/heard, Interstellar only adds to his list of recently-well-done-acting-jobs.
TheIronStomach - 1/28/2014, 6:12 AM
Classic stories/heroes rehashed every 5 years by a different studio with a different creative outlook, and different actors.

I DONT CARE ANYMORE

I think most of us could never see a new or more 'updated'

King Arthur
Peter Pan
and ESPECIALLY Robin Hood

ever again and be totally fine, Kay studios?!

Put your money into making great original ideas or put a solid team behind a worthy modern license. Seriously, I'd rather see a Captain Planet movie before I watch another half-assed one of these.
