Near the beginning of this month,
Buzzfeed chatted with Guillermo del Toro ("The Strain") and asked him if he had any updates for a potential sequel to
Pacific Rim. That is when he revealed that he had been working on the screenplay with Zak Penn, who is best known for writing
The Incredible Hulk,
X-Men: The Last Stand and the Jennifer Garner tour de force,
Elektra. At that time, Guillermo cautioned that Legendary hadn't given the sequel the greenlight, but today they have and below is a video featuring del Toro making the historic announcement.
As for what
Pacific Rim 2 will be about, all we know is that Jaeger pilots, Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), are involved in the storyline.
