Nikki Finke Confirms She Was Victim Of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Hoax

NY Post have the scoop on how the infamous Nikki Finke was conned into believing Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis was hired to work on Ghostbusters 3. Could this mean her SDCC DC movie lineup scoop was also a hoax?

A month ago, Nikki Finke,  former Deadline head honcho, launched her new website, nikkifinke.com. To kick things off she posted several sexy "scoops" about high-profile Hollywood projects. On June 17th, Finke posted, "I’ve just heard that screenwriter Max Landis ("Chronicle") is working on a new draft for Ghostbusters 3 with a three-week turnaround." This "scoop" was quickly debunked by Max Landis via Twitter. Now, the NY Post is reporting how Finke became a victim of a hoax.
Sources say Finke last month received at least five e-mails through her tip line with detailed info about Landis and the “Ghostbusters” sequel, including that studio brass was impressed with footage from Landis’ upcoming adaptation of “Frankenstein,” as well as other particulars. Dangling the carrot further, one “tipster” claimed Deadline was running the Landis story the next day. Another begged Finke not to run the story as it was promised exclusively to Variety.

Of course, in the end she ran the story, and then later deleted it after Landis' tweet. When the NY Post asked her to comment on their story she confirmed that she had received many tips that ended up being untrue. “I always check out every tip I receive," Finke told the NY Post "In this case, an executive at Sony mistakenly confirmed it, so I went with it. In the beginning I received several hoax tips, and I’m extra, extra, extra careful.

When the NY Post contacted Sony to verify Finke's comments, their studio source replied, "She doesn’t call studios to fact check.

All of this begs the question: was Nikkie Finke's DC movie lineup scoop a hoax as well? On June 12th Nikki Finke claimed that sources had tipped her off on Warner Bros. plans to announce their DC movie lineup at this year's Comic-Con. The lineup included: Shazam (July 2016), Sandman (Christmas 2016), Justice League (May 2017), Wonder Woman (July 2017), a Flash/Green Lantern team-up film (Christmas 2017), and a Man of Steel sequel (May 2018). Working in Nikki's favor is that several days after posting her story Kevin Smith confirmed it via a podcast. Though, there's some that doubt Smith would be privy to such important information. We'll just have to wait until Comic-Con to know for certain if Finke's report is accurate.

Hmmm.
I dunno.
The fact that Kevin Smith confirmed it makes me think the list is real.
Why would he confirm it if it wasn't real or if he didn't know anything about the movies?
nailbiter111 - 7/18/2014, 2:13 PM
TheBuoyWonder - One, he could being say that cause he enjoys the fanboy attention and always seems to act as though he is in the know. Two, he does know it and did confirm it.
Sipprelle - 7/18/2014, 2:14 PM
I think the DC lineup is real considering Smith heard the same.
Bekss - 7/18/2014, 2:21 PM
If Smith really knew he wouldn't be allowed to say it. I think he just like the attention.
Bekss - 7/18/2014, 2:25 PM
It would be like "Oh yeah I knew that and I'm confirming it because WB don't have any problem with me revealing secret stuff"
EzioKenway1225 - 7/18/2014, 2:29 PM
beksss-yeah i can see snyder showing him a picture of Afflekc in the suit because Affleck and Smith are really good friends but i cant see WB/DC going to KevinSmith and telling him about their lineup
KingOnslaught - 7/18/2014, 2:31 PM
If anyone knew Nikkie Finke previous job at Deadline all she did was post about Box Office results
Mrcool210 - 7/18/2014, 2:31 PM
@nailbiter111 thanks for the link, now time to give her a miilion new scoops, like that they cast betty white as the next green lantern >:), see how many she runs.
SuperDude001 - 7/18/2014, 2:41 PM
Yeahh I know nothing of the Finke situation, but Kevin Smith would lie about anything if it gets him attention. Seriously, the guy just talks like he knows everything going on in the fanboy would just so that he can pretend he's still relevant to people. Which is is not.
PAF - 7/18/2014, 2:43 PM
I still believe her idk why. Except that Flash/Green Lantern one. Especially on a Christmas release date.
PAF - 7/18/2014, 2:45 PM
And Shazam. Didn't someone from WB say it wouldn't make sense for them to make a film about him because of the Superman similarities? I forgot who it was.
OpticBlastWins - 7/18/2014, 2:55 PM
No way they make a Flash Lantern movie. Flash needs an origin movie and lantern needs to be more space epic.
Bekss - 7/18/2014, 2:56 PM
@PAF

Yeah I believe some of the movies are true but 3 movies a year doesn't sound real
MrBlackjack - 7/18/2014, 3:06 PM
I wouldn't completely right off one scoop because another was false, and Kevin hasn't let me down yet so I've got some hope.
Meady - 7/18/2014, 3:08 PM
God I want this movie to happen!
DaVinci31 - 7/18/2014, 3:17 PM
I doubt the rumored film-lineup is true, but as always with WB/DC, let's hope they actually have their sh*t together this time.

I'm POTUS

For those of you not familiar with the history, Nikki created a popular Hollywood gossip website, took on a partner who she then had a falling out with and she was outmaneuvered and had to leave the site. After a long period of non-compete silence, she's back online. But she's got a lot of powerful people in the business who would like to see her fail. I wont be surprised if she's isn't the victim of a few more false exclusives. As.long as she corrects it when she knows it, I'm not bothered.

Not much bothers me, really.

I'm POTUS

1: As some one already said; if Kevin Smith was told about this WB/DC film linup from WB/DC themselves; then he would NEVER have confirmed it!
But he did; So he certainly wasn't told that by anyone in official capacity like Snyder etc!
& I don't believe he's lying, he must have heard same thing to say its true!
So I've got hope that if 6/7 films not but a few a definitely coming!

2: BUT a studio(DC)'s got 5-7 film in pre production & in writing stage; then how the hell no casting romur or writers or any other info isn't leaked!
They're barely keeping a lid on BvS script, How the hell can they hide 7 more in development!
There's got to be 1-2 HUNDRED people working on those upcoming film... I just can't digest that in this day & age ANYONE, ANYFVCKINGONE can hide it! I mean fvcking MARVEL of all people have been talking about Dr.Strange for years now & they've got the writer & director OFFICIALY on board but still no Dr. Strange film is green lit!
They'll surely announce it at comic con but even Marvel can't annouce 3 movies at once & they've got a dozen in bank; & we expect WB are gona annouce 7 more films with just 1 film in bank!

So most likely it's NOT true (unfortunately) but that doesn't mean 2/3 film can't be in development!
I think we can realistically expect WonderWoman, a solo Batman film, MOS sequel & whatever the character ROCK is playing as solo films along with DAWN of JUSTICE & the JUSTICE LEAGUE film!
5/6 fil in next 3/4 years is not bad!
TheOverlord - 7/18/2014, 3:38 PM
Maybe Kevin Smith was the original source of Nikki Finke's DC line-up rumor...
TheFox - 7/18/2014, 3:38 PM
Hmm! Well, at the very least, this should make Comic-Con a little more interesting... As long as there's a doubt as to whether Finke's story was true or not, whatever they announce at the DC panel (if they announce ANYTHING) should come as a surprise!

Psssh

Women...always claiming they're victims.

...wait, what is she talking about?
McGee - 7/18/2014, 3:47 PM
Man....if those DC scoops ain't true....

I'll be happy, sad and cum all at the same time!

Aaaand that would also probably be the end of her website.
staypuffed - 7/18/2014, 3:48 PM
I really, really hope that line-up is real, because I love the structure and order of it, but the release dates seem off. Going from one every year or two to three in a year? I don't know if WB can do that.
McGee - 7/18/2014, 3:49 PM
mdsimon209 is a shit stirrer. Hahaha!!!
mdsimon209 - 7/18/2014, 3:51 PM
@McGee

I'm not trying to start shit, I just thought it was ironic.
mdsimon209 - 7/18/2014, 3:55 PM
Was my comment deleted?
Insomnia - 7/18/2014, 3:55 PM
@Staypuffed

Warner Brothers is panic for new franchies since Hobbit is soon gone with them at the moment only the new Harry Potter spinoff and Batman V Superman as real blockbusterpotential when Hobbit has ended...
McGee - 7/18/2014, 4:03 PM
Hahahaha!!! :D
Bigred20 - 7/18/2014, 4:08 PM
who the hell is nikki finke?
McGee - 7/18/2014, 4:09 PM
WB has always had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do DC films.

For this reason, I hope the new Harry Potter bombs. WB would be all like "GOD DAMN IT!!! Okay...let's do a Flash movie...nah, let's do a small B or C lister. Let's do a half ass Lobo movie, then act surprised when it bombs."
McGee - 7/18/2014, 4:12 PM
If it wasn't for Batman... WB would have sold DC Comics to Marvel years ago.
JediPhilosopher - 7/18/2014, 4:14 PM
"extra, extra, extra careful." LMAO. I forgive her now.
MFDOOM - 7/18/2014, 4:30 PM
If Kevin Smith confirmed it, then it's more than likely true. Fatman has the inside scoop on Batman.
Ramiel - 7/18/2014, 4:44 PM
I don't think Kevin confirmed anything.
Areo - 7/18/2014, 4:54 PM
"Begging the question" is a philosophical term that doesn't apply here. Although, you could say: "This RAISES the question".

There's my rant of the day.

Nice article nail.
McGee - 7/18/2014, 5:08 PM
That Bachelor degree in Philosophy really helped Areo get to where he is today.

aRandomSinisterClone - 7/18/2014, 6:19 PM
shitty hack reporting, too worried about being the first to post the "story" sounds like she works for this site, we sure she's not RorMachine?
GreenLantern519 - 7/18/2014, 8:34 PM
Why would Kevin Smith say "Yeah that's the list they showed me too" and lie about it? What purpose would that serve? I hope for DC/WB's sake they DO announce a lineup at comic-con, because anything less would be a huge disappointment.
