Just the other day Latino Review had reported that there was trouble with the script for David Slade's Daredevil and that 20th Century Fox was actively searching for a new screenwriter. According to Deadline David James Kelly has been hired to rewrite the reboot of Daredevil. The little-known writer is best known for polishing the script of the now defunct live-action take on Akira.

The Plot - Reports have the studio working off the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli story arc Born Again, as The Kingpin uncovers the superhero’s secret identity, and uses it to turn blind lawyer Matt Murdoch’s life upside down.

Variety's Jeff Sneider has tweeted an intriguing message:

#OTR means off the record, and not a clue as I had originally thought.

BANE5000 - 4/27/2012, 7:15 PM
Boy, FOX just really wants to make this work no matter wat so they dont have to give it back to Marvel Studios huh
kurekurcubic - 4/27/2012, 7:23 PM
what are you talking about bane??
if they wanted to make it no matter what then they would already start filming it with that supposedly bad first draft.
the fact that they hired another writer for a rewrite means that they are doing the best they can
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 7:40 PM
OTR = off the record ,nailbiter
nailbiter111 - 4/27/2012, 7:42 PM

GUNSMITH - 4/27/2012, 8:04 PM
YOU GOTTA BE SHETTING ME.
GiantNerd0720 - 4/27/2012, 8:14 PM
Just give marvel daredevil back so he can get the respect he [frick]ing deserves.
headlopper - 4/27/2012, 8:19 PM
DareDevil fans!

It's time to cry a collective river.

Fox - and I know you read these threads- I have three prophetic words for you:

GREEN. LANTERN. MOVIE.

Swallow your pride and hire a damn Marvel writer who has had success writing for DD comics .
Stupid.
SmithWillSuffice - 4/27/2012, 8:20 PM
David Slade also made Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, give the guy a chance. I'm behind this reboot and hope they get it right this time. Joel Edgerton for Matt Murdoch.
Ghostt - 4/27/2012, 8:20 PM
I don't know...Daredevil may be like the Punisher in that they just cant get him right for the big screen. Born Again is cool, but bringing back the Kingpin for another DAredevil movie? idk...hoping for the best
ckal - 4/27/2012, 8:22 PM
You asshole writer!

I can't believe you convinced FOX to renew their rights on Daredevil!

Ahhhhhh you bastard!!!!
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 8:26 PM
dare devil is'nt hard

DD is marvel's batman imo

go dark gritty crime drama
masterhater - 4/27/2012, 8:27 PM
@ckal I totally agree!!!

I wish the rights had gone back. Now we are going to get a lame ass daredevil!
CaptainAmerica1945 - 4/27/2012, 8:30 PM
For a second there I thought they said David E Kelly.....
greenlanternsector2814 - 4/27/2012, 8:32 PM
Give the rights back to Marvel already FOX, geez! They obviously have a better idea on what they're doing.
GUNSMITH - 4/27/2012, 8:42 PM
NEEDS TO GO BACK TO MARVEL.
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 8:46 PM
@TheDukeOfNY thank you

when is marvel gonna do black panther thats who needs a movie
SmithWillSuffice - 4/27/2012, 8:48 PM
Do you people think that if the rights reverted back to MARVEL they would have any intention of making a DD movie? They have their hands full at the moment with all the Avengers spin offs and would just shelf it. They already have more characters than they know what to do with and the only way your even gonna see new DD, FF4 or X-MEN movies in the next decade is if another studio like FOX is picking up the tab. That's the problem DC is having right now. These movies are to expensive for one studio to produce an entire Universe of superheroes at once.
greenlanternsector2814 - 4/27/2012, 8:59 PM
@ TheDukeOfNY - True, but they do have Disney backing them financially so I'm pretty sure they could manage haha! Plus Daredevil is a character I'm sure Marvel Studios would want to make things right with the fans after the first attempt. Plus DD is a character co-created by Stan "The Man" Lee.
TheMyth - 4/27/2012, 9:03 PM
Good, now I know EXACTLY who to hold responsible for further delaying DD's inclusion to the MCU... my wrath will be terrible.
SmithWillSuffice - 4/27/2012, 9:14 PM
DC is owned by WB and that isn't exactly helping them any. I applaud everything MARVEL has accomplished thus far with The Avengers, but DD is not a marque character, nor is he part of The Avengers so he wouldn't be a priority for MARVEL at the moment. Anyone who calls themselves a DD fan should just be happy at this point that someone is actually trying to get a DD movie made. FOX looks to be learning from their mistakes and with any luck this could end up being another great superhero adaptation.
GiantNerd0720 - 4/27/2012, 9:15 PM
@P86 Black panther would be a nice addition to the MCU.
soberchimera - 4/27/2012, 9:47 PM
@TheDukeofNY Good choice!
Ace101 - 4/27/2012, 9:49 PM
@Marvel87 dont forget Dr. Strange XD and another possible movie based on a character from the avengers movie. I wont say anything just in case ppl here have not seen the movie yet.
Ace101 - 4/27/2012, 9:51 PM
i also second who ever said just let the rights revert back to marvel.
Where is this David James Kelly, i shall have words with thee.
DevilHulk666 - 4/27/2012, 9:51 PM
I don't care who plays Matt Murdoch, I just want a heavily cg'd Daredevil,
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 10:25 PM
@LOGANXX36

Born again comic has an established DD so they cant really have a young DD
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 10:26 PM
@CriFlor terrible really? i personally thought first class was so much better than thor and cap from acting to characterization to script, etc.
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 10:37 PM
i felt Magneto Argentina Bar Scene> any scene in any marvel studio film from the writing, pace, acting, tension, etc.
comicb00kguy - 4/27/2012, 10:38 PM
Born Again was an excellent storyline, but I don't know if it is the right story for a 'reboot'. If they do it, let's at least have a fat white Kingpin this time, okay?
LordHuck - 4/27/2012, 10:43 PM
I know who ACTUALLY saved Fox's DAREDEVIL reboot with a 3-week rewrite that convinced the studio to renew its option on the rights.

^^^^^^^^^^^^
Whoever did that should be shot.
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 10:45 PM
comicb00kguy can you find one that was as muscular, tall, intimidating as MCD

he was a great kingpin

i fear a reboot would cast some fat white guy when kingpin is'nt suppose to be fat
LordHuck - 4/27/2012, 10:50 PM
TheDukeOfNY

What's a matter? Don't read comics anymore? Dare Devil is indeed part of the Avengers.

I don't really ever wanna see a DD solo project but I would like to see him as part of a larger cinematic universe.
marvelstudios - 4/27/2012, 10:52 PM
give the fkn rights back now!!!
P862010 - 4/27/2012, 11:02 PM
since this story is on an established DD

we better get michael c hall
Robert - 4/28/2012, 12:20 AM
Don't worry Marvel fans, Fox will destroy the Daredevil brand. Due to money losses, Fox will give Daredevil back to Marvel, and Marvel will return Daredevil back to greatness.
P862010 - 4/28/2012, 12:40 AM
money losses LOLOL

how much money did avatar make fox again?
gambgel - 4/28/2012, 1:59 AM
Fox and Daredevil on the same sentence give me bad memories....

but we have to remember that Fox released First Class and Rise of the planet of the apes last year, so they must have a new ejecutive team or mind now, so maybe we'll be surprised with the new reboots of DD and F4
marvel72 - 4/28/2012, 2:50 AM
guarantee fox will f*ck up another comic book movie

1.x-men 2(their only good movie)
2.x-men first class(had its moments but that is all)
3.x-men(not all that really)
4.x-men 3(terrible)
5.daredevil(directors cut is better)
6.fantastic four 2(silver surfer looked cool)
7.fantastic four
8.x-men origins wolverine
9.elektra

you could add aliens vs predator to that list as well, even though both alien & predator started life in movies before comics, aliens vs predator happened in the comics before the movies.

marvel studio's is the only studio that would do the character justice.
GUNSMITH - 4/28/2012, 3:20 AM
I DON'T MIND A DAREDEVIL MOVIE, I JUST MIND THAT THEY TAKE TOO MANY LIBERTIES AND CHANGE STUFF.
LEEE777 - 4/28/2012, 3:39 AM
Michael C Hall :PPPP

ckal - 4/28/2012, 5:01 AM
Duke-

It's not that I want marvel to make a daredevil movie (right away), it's that I just DON'T want to see Fox make a daredevil movie.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/28/2012, 5:29 AM
I give it a chance.
They better write a good goddamn story!

Michael C. Hall, Ewan McGregor, Chris Pine or Jamie Bamber as Murdock.
Watcher - 4/28/2012, 6:57 AM
They SHOULDN'T have "saved" it.

They should have just let the rights go so we could finally have a decent DD movie!

But no. Just more pap n crap
JerseyJoker - 4/28/2012, 8:53 AM
THat picture of Daredevil on the article is not Daredevil, it's Spider-Man in DD's outfit.

Just sayin..
Bartman87 - 4/28/2012, 9:13 AM
Fox isn't going to give the rights back and I hope they don't just saying that Marvel won't give the same tone that he deserves, none of Marvel's movies give the tone that DD needs and if they were to use him in the MCU they would keep him in line with their other characters and not make him as deep as he needs to be in order to make a good and suspenseful movie.

Fox has learned from it's disasters in the past and from the experience of others while they have also been the ground breakers in terms of CBMs. They know they can't just throw explosions on the screen and a bunch of fight scenes with no coherent scripting. The biases that everyone has towards them on here borders on the ridiculous at points with people thinking that Marvel will put movies out to appease the fans, they will only put out movies that will coincide with their vision of coherence and DD wouldn't fall into that in my opinion.
