According to Variety actress Rebecca Hall from The Town is in negotiations to replace Jessica Chastain as one of the female leads in Shane Black's Iron Man 3.

Variety is reporting that Rebecca Hall, who starred in Ben Affleck's The Town is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Iron Man 3. If she signs on she will be replacing Jessica Chastain, who just yesterday dropped out due to a scheduling conflict. The role is reportedly Maya Hansen, a female scientist and old flame of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).

Thesp would play a scientist who plays a pivotal role in the creation of a nanotechnology, known as Extremis, that winds up being sold to terrorists.

Plot will borrow elements from Warren Ellis' six-issue "Iron Man: Extremis," that also heavily influenced the first "Iron Man" pic, and focuses on the spread of a virus through nanotechnology.


Iron Man 3 will be directed by Shane Black, and is expected to hit theaters May 3, 2013! The film stars: Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Gwyneth Paltrow (Virginia Potts), Don Cheadle (Col. James Rhodes), and with Ben Kingsley as the main villain.

That's cool and all, but if she too, backs out, GET MICHELLE MONAGHAN!!! She was amazing in MI:III,and Ghost Protocol, Source Code, Due Date, and of course, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang! If she could get the opportunity to play Tony's old flame, God that would be perfect!

Looks like an upgrade to me.

Just like going from Howard to Cheadle. She's way hotter than the Chastain chick. And Extremis storyline? Hell yeah. I say: BRING IT. :)

Great news and totally out of left field!

I was bummed about Jessica Chastain not landing the role but this is great casting and in no way a let down. Pleasantly surprised :D

The Extremis armor is cool at first but if I am not mistaken it also harms Stark mind to the point where he cant remember certain things.

@Intruder lol thats cool! But the thing about Bleeding Edge is that it is organic based if I am not mistaken and they are going extremis route which is all based on nano bites.

I figured they would have gone with the next actress on the short list of actresses in contention.

Well, I think she is a great choice. She even looks a bit like Maya from the actual comic.
