Will THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Be Over 3 Hours Long?

Roger Nail, the president of a visual effects company, MediaWorks, tweeted and then later deleted a few interesting messages that imply that his wife was going and saw the most current cut of The Dark Knight Rises.

President of MediaWorks, Roger Nail, yesterday tweeted that his wife, Francie Brown, was headed off to see a big summer movie. Based on the clue of "The Dark one" most of us assume he meant The Dark Knight Rises.

Would you like another reason why we believe it's for the new Batman movie? I'm glad you asked. See, his wife Francie Brown is a dialect coach. She has worked with Christian Bale on eight films and her husband even tweeted in August that she was working with Marion Cotillard in Pittsburgh. In the past Francie has also been quoted as saying that part of her job is going over the final cut of a film. The quote below is from 2007, and is about her working with Christian Bale on 3:10 to Yuma.

"I very often will review the finished cut and look for places where there are slips, so that he can ADR [automated dialogue replacement] those slips, which are rare with him." - L.A. Times

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th 2012 and stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

Well wouldn't surprise me, most movies are long in length and then get cut down.
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:06 PM
I really really doubt it. But I honestly wouldn't mind. Just gotta make sure I train my bladder up and not watch those previews with the Coca Cola being poured in to the glass.
antonio - 5/24/2012, 10:08 PM
Creepy ass gif. As for the length, due to IMAX limitations, I could see it being 170 minutes. I'm still saying it'll be at least 166 minutes.
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:11 PM
hey nail, I love the gif's you've put up in your articles, but that one on here is gonna give me a seizure :P

TonyChu - 5/24/2012, 10:12 PM
2hrs45min! That's my prediction.
TheWebSlinger - 5/24/2012, 10:15 PM
It will be cut some.

I expect it to be around the same length as TDK, but perhaps a bit longer.
alucard365 - 5/24/2012, 10:18 PM
3hours! Hell Yeah!
antonio - 5/24/2012, 10:21 PM
2:46 Calling it.
Tajin88 - 5/24/2012, 10:22 PM
The Dark Knight never felt too long and if this movie can entertain like the last one did, then the longer, the better!

JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:28 PM
2hrs34min-That's my guess.
nailbiter111 - 5/24/2012, 10:29 PM
better jduke?
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:29 PM
Someone make a poll for how long they think TDKR will be. I'm too lazy to.
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:31 PM
yes sir nail

Thumbs Up Pictures, Images and Photos
antonio - 5/24/2012, 10:34 PM
@Jude & TonyEBoy 2 minutes longer than TDK?
Tajin88 - 5/24/2012, 10:34 PM
3 hours and 5 minutes!
Batman27 - 5/24/2012, 10:43 PM
Just bring it already. The wait is killing me. DC Rules!!!
ChazzGoodtimes - 5/24/2012, 10:43 PM
Sweet.
Tajin88 - 5/24/2012, 10:43 PM
Who knows, maybe Nolan cant screen his final cut, because of its length, so we will get his first director's cut on Blu ray :P
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:43 PM
@antonio I guess so lol But, Batman Begins was 141. The Dark Knight was 153. So TDKR could be 160 or so, who knows.
Batman27 - 5/24/2012, 10:45 PM
It will atleast be two hours and thirty minutes.
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:46 PM
@TonyEboy way to pull a Price is Right move on me there. ;)
jjmeylar - 5/24/2012, 10:46 PM
I don't think that it'll be worth the ticket money, no matter the length. I'll wait for Redbox, or something......if it'll even be worth THAT much money.
Chaplin - 5/24/2012, 10:46 PM
I personally wouldnt mind it being over 3 hours long because 1: i've seen longer films and 2: i want the film to never end, but i dont believe the mainstream viewers will stick around long enough, mentally, for the film, which will completely ruin it for them.

Having said that, i'd be more than fine with a 2 and a half hour running time
Genaro - 5/24/2012, 10:46 PM
Im going for 3hours and 24 minutes exactly.
eoin3 - 5/24/2012, 10:49 PM
Long movies are bad for box office because you can't show it as many times during the day. If you lose 1-3 showings per theater per day that's a lot of revenue lost... I suspect it will be cut to under 2:30 hrs... But who knows...
TheMyth - 5/24/2012, 10:50 PM
BRING IT!!! I think a movie should be at least 2 hours or I was robbed. I fully expected this to be at least 2hrs 30mins just to flesh out all these new characters and explain everything.
musicsuperhero1 - 5/24/2012, 10:53 PM
I LLLOOOVE Nolan's Batman movies...but they do run a bit long, particularly TDK. I guarantee they saw the rough cut...they're in the editing phase right now. They'll cut it down a bit...they always do.
santoanderson - 5/24/2012, 10:54 PM
Man, that animated GIF makes me appreciate so much that they built and used a physical BAT, aka BATWING, on set.
JDUKE25 - 5/24/2012, 10:55 PM
@eoin3 true, but look at Titanic. It was over 3hrs and that movie was in theaters forever. And TDKR will be towards the end of the summer movies, so there's not going to be much else coming out to challenge it after it comes out.
NickMoney - 5/24/2012, 10:57 PM
My ass and attention span won't last, guess unless I catch a screening I'll be waiting for it to pop up online or blu-ray so I can at least pause it to not get Knee lock
Gnyah123 - 5/24/2012, 10:57 PM
this movie will probably be 2 hours n 40 mins to 3 hours and 20 mins...calling it now
TDK was about 2 hours n 50 mins was it or close to it...
so this will will be 2:45 - 3:10 or 20 mins
Bobevanz - 5/24/2012, 10:57 PM
Me bum couldnt stand to sit 3+ hours more than once or twice, there better be drugs at the end! batman gets mcbroken somewhere inbetween lol. my box office prediction: 670 million
TheMyth - 5/24/2012, 10:58 PM
eoin3@, Avatar 178mins, nearly 3 hours... Titanic 194mins, that's over 3 hours... Avengers 143mins, that's 2 and a half hours... Transformers3 157mins, another 2.5 hours. That's 4 of the 5 highest grossing films of all time all going between 2.4-3.25 hours in length. Ahem... you were saying...
Gnyah123 - 5/24/2012, 10:59 PM
exactly! they r editing it still
and this lady was seeing the rough cut or the final cut that they edit..so how ever long they saw will be brought down
antonio - 5/24/2012, 11:00 PM
@Gnyah TDK was 2:33
Gnyah123 - 5/24/2012, 11:02 PM
well ima make sure i take a NICE LONNGG PISS before this movie starts cuz i am not movie during this movie...if i have to pee my pants then i will...
RaKash - 5/24/2012, 11:03 PM
A movie like this will honestly finish faster than you know, so it's definitely good if it's longer. It's got a lot of ground to cover and a lot of badassness!! I'd be happy if this is 3 hrs or pass that.
antonio - 5/24/2012, 11:03 PM
Just for reference, tickets for the film go on sale June 11th.

Knightrider - 5/24/2012, 11:04 PM
Maybe this will be the first ever nonstop movie, so as you watch Nolan films edits and adds so you never have to leave the cinema again.
antonio - 5/24/2012, 11:04 PM
As long as we get a definitive end to Nolan's Batman, I can't really complain about runtime.
LoudNoises - 5/24/2012, 11:05 PM
I'm down for 4hrs. And there could be an intermission somewhere in the middle of the movie and when you get back from your much needed bathroom break someone will have stolen the prime seat you waited in line 5hrs to get. There would me movie theater homicides across the country, lol.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 5/24/2012, 11:06 PM
3+ hours is too long in my opinion. I hope it is somewhere around 2 1/2.
mk - 5/24/2012, 11:08 PM
hope not 3hours.. i felt like that was one prob in TDK it kinda dragged on useless scenes
nailbiter111 - 5/24/2012, 11:08 PM
i'd be happy with a 3 hour cut.
Batman27 - 5/24/2012, 11:11 PM
I remember when I saw TDK at Theathers I had to piss really bad and I held it for the whole movie.
Gnyah123 - 5/24/2012, 11:13 PM
well if TDK was 2:33 then this movie will be between 2:40 - 3:20....

and honestly....if any of u seen the reboot King Kong wit jack black...that was 3 hours long n sum odd minutes...187 minutes to be exact....i have a good feeling TDKR will be THAT long ..
nailbiter111 - 5/24/2012, 11:16 PM
all i know is, once it starts I'll never want it to end.
Gnyah123 - 5/24/2012, 11:16 PM
agreed @imsuperman
if there is ONE THING TDK lack...it was action...NOT ALOT OF FIGHTING AT ALL IN THE MOVIE!!
TDKR better make up for that!
Destroyer7 - 5/24/2012, 11:16 PM
end the boring movie
Batman27 - 5/24/2012, 11:17 PM
Does anyone think at the end of the year when the film is out in DVD that Nolan might answer questions? I really want to know what he would have done if Heath never past away.
