An 'R' Rating For HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS

A source for Collider has confirmed that Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is planning to be an 'R' rated film. It stars The Avenger's Jeremy Renner as Hansel and Quantum of Solace's Gemma Arterton as Gretel.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was supposed to come out in March but with only two months to go til it's release date Paramount decided to push the film all the way to January. No trailer has been released and only a handful of images have found their way online.

The most significant info to come out about the movie happened yesterday as two members of IMDB reported that they had seen multiple versions of the film in test screenings. The assumption was that there was an 'R' rated cut, and a 'PG-13' cut, but a source for Collider says that both versions were intended to be 'R' rated.

IMDB's RickCastle's Description:
I can’t say a lot because of agreements with the company, Overall I will say that I really enjoyed this one. It was different, violent, pretty funny- Sort of like Drive Angry 3D or Scott Pilgrim humor, and I thought everyone did well. It kind of felt like they nailed the ancient humor the way ‘Your Highness’ was supposed too but didn’t.

I went to the R-Rated version, I haven’t seen an PG-13 version and I didn’t even think they were cutting it up to be that, I hope they go back to the R Version because that was one hell of a fun movie. A PG-13 version would just ruin everything.

IMDB's Pyromaniac975's Description:
The first one was definitely the Rated R version. Good humor, good action, great fight scenes, awesome dynamic between Renner and Arterton. I loved it so much the first time, I made a group of friends go to the second screening the next week. But the next week, they had heavily edited it and turned it into a PG-13 film.

If they keep it R, it’s gonna be great. Silly, but actiony and fun. If it’s PG13, it won’t be worth it. Let’s hope it’s an R rating. It was graphic and gory, I had to look away a couple of times because it was just gross.

Now it's just a matter of Paramount deciding to go for a hard 'R' or a soft 'R.' Based on the comments above I would hope that they are leaning toward the harder version.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is directed by Tommy Wirkola, the cast includes Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Derek Mears and Peter Stormare. The story is about Hansel and Gretel, grown up bounty hunters, that have dedicated their lives to exterminating witches. The film will hit theaters January 11th, 2013

Think the witch will force feed Renner until he's fat enough to bake in this version? lol
MisterNiceGuy - 8/9/2012, 3:04 PM
they better give Renner more than 2 minutes of screen time if they dont want to hurt his feelings

That Rick Castle guy is a dumb ass.
'Your Highness' was a funny movie that did not try to capture ancient humor, whatever the hell that is..it was a goofy, stoner movie set in a fantasy realm.

Movie reviewers are useless c unts.

famke jannsen looks like a [frick]ing horse shitty actress
timmyjingoro - 8/9/2012, 4:26 PM
@lunasta, yeah. I don't get the hype about Famke Jannsen either. She was good in James Bond but that's about it. She totally ruined Jean Grey for me.
geeekgod - 8/9/2012, 4:41 PM
hey, if i can be as good, or better than SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN ten i'm all for it!!!
CherryBomb - 8/9/2012, 4:46 PM
Famke is a beautiful woman and so talented.
Watch her other roles, she was great in Nip/Tuck and Love and Sex and more.

Her portrayal of Jean was pretty good, the whole cast were pretty one dimensional, she did well with what she was given.

mgeoff88 - 8/9/2012, 7:14 PM
They're are making this R-Rated? I don't know if that's the best way to go with this kind of film.

I don't have a problem with R-Rated movies, but it seems like the studio might lose a lot money on this movie with that decision.

Especially with Jeremy Renner(Hawkeye) being one of the main stars.
gastitdk - 8/9/2012, 8:30 PM
They really need to cut it out with these classic tales reinterpretations. They're lame
number10 - 8/10/2012, 2:32 AM
the studio will shit it and go for pg-13
geeekgod - 8/10/2012, 5:47 PM
@number10 lets have some faith. PROMETHEUS and THE EXPENDABLES 2 had rumors of being PG-13 that turned out not to be true
geeekgod - 8/10/2012, 5:51 PM
just saw it on spoilertv.com. there going with the hard R version. [frick] YEAH!!!
geeekgod - 8/10/2012, 5:55 PM
@cherrybomb you have a good eye
kamikazeturtle - 8/11/2012, 9:20 PM
I really expected this to suck but the people I know who saw a screening raved about it and agreed it should be R. Getting hopeful.
