Over the past week a leaked script for the Michael Bay-produced Ninja Turtles surfaced online. TMNT fans quickly read through it and the overwhelming reaction has been extremely negative. Since then Paramount has been scrambling to take it off the net, but before they could Peter Laird was able to view it and has voiced his concerns, "I think all true TMNT fans should be grateful to the new "powers that be" that they did not allow this wretched thing to go any further. It could definitely be taken as a good sign if that is the case."

I think the script that I read is so fundamentally flawed, and — more to the point — so NOT a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, that trying to make piecemeal changes to it in an effort to make it into something halfway decent is probably a fool’s errand.

In my opinion, the thing should just be tossed out, deliberately forgotten, and the process of generating a new script really a new outline, then treatment, then script — should be started again. I have no insider knowledge of what’s going on with the movie, but from the bits and pieces that have slipped out, it seems like that may be exactly what is happening.

While we’re on the subject of this script… I have to say that while reading it, and especially reading the last twenty pages or so, I couldn’t help but think of the brouhaha which erupted a few months back when Michael Bay was heard to say that in the upcoming movie, the Turtles would be revealed to be “from an alien race”, and following that, all the mental gymnastics indulged in by people who wanted to parse his words and make it seem like “No, he didn’t REALLY say they were going to be ALIENS!”… and then this script makes it way out onto the Internet, and if it is legitimate, it’s painfully clear that YES, the Turtles WERE, in fact, going to be ALIENS.

Now keep in mind that this script is rumored to be one of the reasons for the film being pushed back from December of 2013 to May of 2014. So, we should expect plenty of changes, but a complete overhaul is needed, not just mere tweaking. Another concern is that co-creator Kevin Eastman is actually helping with this live-action version, assisting director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans), and Kevin not that long ago was gushing about the script. One has to wonder if his judgement is clouded.

By the way, Laird did have one more suggestion, "I'd ditch Bebop and Rocksteady completely."

You can read Skeletor's review of the script here.

I read that script a few days ago, as well, and I mentally threw up; then my throw up, threw up.

It's not like Michael Bay cares. Now that it leaked, the film isn't going to be a massively shitty film, it's just going to be an ordinarily shitty film

Are They Still Gonna Use It? Or Did I Read It Wrong....

ATrueHero1987 - 8/29/2012, 10:35 PM
I read the summary of the script on ign. Once I read the summary, I said "you can't be [frick]ing serious"!!
blite32 - 8/29/2012, 10:43 PM
As a kid who grew up watching TMNT I actually do not have a problem with how the turtles are aliens. It's just that the script is fricking stupid
angus666 - 8/29/2012, 10:43 PM
I didn't read the script and already knew everything that guy said.
ATrueHero1987 - 8/29/2012, 10:57 PM
What's funny is that one of the co-creators supported that script. *facepalm*
LordThanos231 - 8/29/2012, 11:00 PM
This is what grif should call a shit movie.

The only thing alien that should be in a TMNT movie is the alien ooze that mutated them.
Jolt17 - 8/29/2012, 11:38 PM
I pretty much confirm Mr. Laird's comment. The turtles ARE aliens, the ooze story is a ruse, General Schrader, and...the list goes on.

Plus, it focuses more on the immature, teenage Casey Jones and his girlfriend than the Turtles themselves. Sounds like a familiar formula?
Edd209 - 8/29/2012, 11:45 PM
^ nice Elguason!

Won't all the little kiddies be confused when this new film has no resemblance to the new Nickelodeon stories either?

I say get Peter Laird to make a Turtle film!
TheMightyTroy - 8/30/2012, 12:09 AM
If the script that was read gets turned into a movie, then it will be the worst thing ever. Why change something so perfect and a story that has worked for so many years. teenage mutant ninja turtle < keep it that way!

If you'd rather hear it than read it.
Spoiler Warning: You will be RAPED!
SunSp0t - 8/30/2012, 1:17 AM
That script was terrible, easily the worst script I ever read in my life!
SunSp0t - 8/30/2012, 1:24 AM
My God it made no sense at all. Casey and April were both teenagers, Shredder was an ALIEN named Colonel Schrader (rolls eyes). Raphael was changed into the comic relief instead of Michaelangelo (really??), Casey couldnt tell them apart so he gave them different color bandanas so he could know who was whom. I could keep going but you get the idea. Its like they were changing things just for the sake of changing them. And what did Kevin Eastman say a couple months ago "oh relax they are taking very good care of the turtles franchise, you have NOTHING to worry about" BULLSHIT!!
lokibane2012 - 8/30/2012, 1:36 AM
changing them to aliens pretty much changes what they are.

Teenage - It is an EARTHLY concept which describes a stage that we go through in our lives. So not 'Teenage'.

Mutant - They didn't mutate, they're aliens. So not 'Mutant'.

Ninja - I guess, according to what I've heard from the script they learn ninjutsu here. So I'll give them that.

Turtles - Nope, not turles. Aliens. So not 'Turtles'.

So in the end it's just Ninja Aliens. But then again, I see an abundance of guns in the concept art. So if they do end up using more Bay-tyle guns that ninjutsu and ninja-weapons.... Then well, It's just Aliens...
lokibane2012 - 8/30/2012, 1:40 AM
Oh and they raped the badass Casey and April O'Neal. And just turned them into Shia LaBoop and Megan Fox with different names. They pretty much turned this into Transformers-lite with aliens, guns, teenage rat-shit. Whatever, just [frick] whatever kind of shit it was gonna be.

I'm glad it leaked, now hopefully they'll all come to their senses after seeing the embarrassing public responso to their intended direction with the film and start afresh with new people on the project.

How [frick]ing hard its to make a decent TMNT film?!xD
LancerEvo - 8/30/2012, 2:28 AM
This was likely leaked on purpose to gauge fan reaction. People have read it, people hate it, people want an overhaul/re-do. So they'll take what they got from all the feedback they find online, and HOPEFULLY (big emphasis here) see how bothered real TMNT fans are by how this 'reboot' is headed and make the changes necessary to give us fans the proper movie we deserve.

If I'm not mistaken, hasn't Bay [frick]ed with fans before like this just to get a reaction? It's working I think! He's gonna troll us with Ninja Aliens, process the feedback, and blow us all the [frick] away with something great! Or... well, [frick] it all up anyway and rape another childhood memory..,
lokibane2012 - 8/30/2012, 2:28 AM
Oh and it's [frick]ing hilarious how this movie tries to make fun of Kung Fu Panda. That film series is eons superior to anything this pile of shit was ever going to amount to.
technodrome518 - 8/30/2012, 3:18 AM
Colonel Shrader...nuff said.
MJPETTY7 - 8/30/2012, 5:00 AM
Someone wanna post a link to the leaked script so I can read it?
DarthBob - 8/30/2012, 5:19 AM
Michael Bay movie making checklist:

1) Choose subject matter and/or genre with rabid fans
2) Write epically awful script with trite and cliche dialogue
3) Cast bottom of the barrel actors; be sure to cast some hotties dumb as stones
4) Shoot movie with lots and lots of 'splotions
5) Wait for critics to skewer movie
6) Fanboys pay money to see movie even though they know that it will monumentally suck
7) Michael Bay cashes multimillion dollar check
8) Go back to step 1 and repeat cycle
Gigacrusher45 - 8/30/2012, 5:22 AM
I hope it fails miserably so they can learn a lesson on not changing loved characters into BULLSHIT
sameoldthing - 8/30/2012, 5:46 AM
Bay screwed up Transformers..it was really a mess. Could have been great.
Same with TMNT..the potential with current special effects could make a terrific TMNT film if done correctly.

Stay with the source material filmmakers! Create your own b.s. if ya want, leave the good stuff to those who really know what they are doing.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 8/30/2012, 5:47 AM
One of the biggest problems that I can see from the script is that it tries to cover way too much. Don't even go near Krang or Dimension X. Just tell a simple damn story based on the original origin everyone loves, with a lot of bad ass ninja elements in NYC. The Turtles fight the Foot and Shredder. Done.
Ha1frican - 8/30/2012, 6:05 AM
Im young enough that studios havnt started infringng on my hildhood too much yet (unless you count CBM's not being accurate) but im starting to feel it with this and DO NOT WANT
Lionheart1 - 8/30/2012, 6:06 AM
Personally I enjoyed how they continued the story in TMNT movie a few years back. They had littered refrences all throughout the movie and it felt organic to the history of overall history of the Turtles.
soda9 - 8/30/2012, 6:29 AM
Thank you, Peter Laird! Let's just ditch Michael Bay and get some else, dammit! Kevin Eastman must be blind as a bat if he couldn't see how much of an epic fail the script was. I would of love to see Josh Trank direct this, but seeing as his hands are full, never mind. I don't care for Leibesman, I'm sure he'll do fine.

What I'm actually interested in is what the Turtles would look like. I say go lean yet muscular. Make Raph the most ripped. Leo the second most ripped, Don to be the tall one and sort of skinny, and Mikey be the short skinny one. And have different shades of green.

Here's what I'm talking about, except they'd look more bad ass and not like this. They would also have black eyes.

As you can see, that's a little to cute. Make them look more like this:

And check out this bad ass Shredder design! Definitely would use! Not "Col. Shradder" lol

Mrcool210 - 8/30/2012, 7:00 AM
@gringo, thanks for the link
SuperFrost - 8/30/2012, 7:13 AM
