So You Think You Can Write Or Draw TOP COW Comics

Exciting news! Top Cow has just announced a contest that will choose two writers and two artists that have never been published before, and hire them to produce work for the comic company. Hit the jump to check out all of the details.

Top Cow Productions, Inc. has announced a talent search today, in which they are looking to hire two writers and two artists that will create paid work for them in 2013/2014. The deadline for the talent hunt is
December 31, 2012.
    “The goal of the Talent Hunt is to find two previously UNPUBLISHED writers and artists and give them a chance to expose their work to the comic industry in the printed and digital formats," said Top Cow President, C.O.O. and contest judge, Matt Hawkins

    “The comics industry is an awesome one to work in…both Marc Silvestri and I thought about this and realized that at some point someone gave us a chance. We’re looking to do the same for a few people. 4 people may not seem like a lot but we don’t actually publish that many books so it is a LOT for us.”


You must ONLY use these characters from the Top Cow Universe: Sabine (Wheel of Shadows), Glorianna Silver (The Ember Stone), Michael Finnegan (The Glacier Stone), Ian Nottingham (Blood Sword), Ji Xi (13th artifact), Pandora’s Box wielder TBD, and
Tom Judge (Rapture).

For the writers, submit "a synopsis idea of the story you are pitching and a separate 8+ page full script of the story you are pitching (panel breakdowns, dialogue, etc.)." You can write more than that, but not less than that, and remember do NOT add any original character's to your story. Only the characters from the Top Cow list above will be accepted.

For artists, they are looking for "two artists who do finished pencil to color work, digital painting or pencil/ink/ink wash combo appropriate for black and white publication." They will provide a sample script if necessary.

Now that is just the gist of the contest rules and I urge anyone interested in participating to read the full guidelines and rules.

The characters are part of the Artifacts & new born: Pandora box story arch and were involved heavily in those story lines/ top cow universe. Nottingham is a well known witchblade character also. I look forward to more Tom judge & necromancer.

Give us more characters to choose from. I don't know anything about those characters. What about Witchblade, Magdelena, Jackie Estacafo, or The Wanted characters, or Aphrodite IX?

I think they go for the lesser known/popular characters cause it would show your skill as a writer/artist and these would be the ones you'd end up working on. It's a shame others don't do this once every few years. Just wish I was talented enough to do this :-(

Have no clue who these characters are, have tried to follow top cow but stories and characters are meh. It would be better if they let you submit creator owned stuff. Really don't want to write stories about characters I have no interest in.

I think thats the point!
You dont know the characters, so you go buy a couple of their new Graphics, to figure out who they are, they make sales and maybe find a new star.
Its actually quite brilliant.

I would consider participating in this, but I don't think I'll have the time and I'm not sure that my artwork is good enough yet. Hopefully there will be other chances to get into the comic industry somewhere down the line.

I would love to try this but I know nothing about those characters, even read a bit on wikis and I still don't know enough, lol. Only Glorianna Silver seems a bit interesting to write.

I am confused, I understand you can only use those characters but, do they mean as the main character or ONLY that group can be in the story. Because to develop a complete story one might need to add in 'thugs' and other side characters to move the plot.

Wait Wait, Wait! So they only want artists that can do both pencil, ink and color? All I do is Pencil and when necessary, I ink it in.

@nailbiter So basically you have to draw these characters and put it in a portfolio... Is that it? Or must we ink it and color it and all that stuff? I'd love to do this, but very, very few artists actually pencil, ink and color copy their work. Getting a different person to ink and color tone it differentiates the piece and makes it pop.

If anyone can answer me, I'd appreciate it, I don't know If I'm reading this thing wrong, or if it's just too early in the morning and I can't think straight, lol. Thanks!

I just read up on the whole top cow reboot...it seems like an interesting universe. And a couple of good stories spring to mind. I'm working on my own comic project right now, but this is definitely something I could get into. If I wasn't going to med school too right now I would be more gung ho...As it is, I'm gonna let it sit and come back to the script soon...maybe.

@midnight35-henchmen, ninjas and anonymous barristas are ok to use.

I've been googling for info on the Monastic Order that Ji Xi is a part of but couldn't find anything yet....Anybody read the books, or have a link or something?
