New AKIRA Storyboards Featuring Tetsuo & The Cryogenic Chamber

Artist Chris Weston has uploaded new storyboards from Warner Bros. live-action remake of Akira. The artwork was created while Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli ) was attached to direct.

The Hughes brothers usually co-direct, such as Johnny Depp's Jack The Ripper film, From Hell, but for Akira Albert was going solo. His biggest challenge was adapting Katsuhiro Ohtomo's legendary work into a PG-13 format, which was a mandate set down by Warner Bros.' executives. But in May of 2011 Albert walked away from the project, because of amicable creative differences.

So far a live-action Akira has been one hell of a tough nut to crack. Even directors Ruairi Robinson and recently Jaume Collet-Serra, were attached, but they too were unsuccessful.

Americanization notwithstanding, these storyboards are dead on the money for how this movie should look.

It might've actually been good.

I'm okay with this not getting made with the team they chose. Just because concept art looks good does not mean the movie would have been good. Concept art is like 1/800 of the process of making a good film.

Im glad it didnt happen. I mean for gods sake it was going to be based in America and be PG-13. I think that should tell everything.
The sets could have been cool and everything but not every movie with cool sets are great.

He has been going it alone for a long time now, but thanks to the Kick Start foundation, he is working with a major custom motorcycle shop now.

Might see some Kaneda bikes for sale in the near future.

Great storyboards but this doesn't mean what you is what you get. And as its been shelved what we see wont what we're getting.

Very good and very close to Otomo's work. But make the movie with american characters... NO WAY!!!

Just give a whole bunch of cash to a Japanese studio so they can make a non-cheesey, live action version. Asian actors, Japanese studio, Japanese culture, and English subs. Tis all you need.
