ANT-MAN Test Reel May Be Released; Plus Viggo Mortensen As Dr. Strange Rumor Denied

Marvel executive Victoria Alonso denies that Viggo Mortensen is in negotiations to play Doctor Strange. Also the Ant-Man test footage that was shown at Comic-Con could be released soon.

In a conversation with the Omelete, Marvel executive Victoria Alonso has revealed that the Ant-Man test reel Edgar Wright filmed in last June, and showed a month later San Diego Comic-Con is being cleaned up for a possible release.
“What we showed at Comic-Con was a work in progress. We’re working on finishing it, and I think you might see it. Not sure where, but we always listen to the fans. And if the fans demand it we make sure they get it. I don’t know if we are going to post it online, but I don’t have [any reason] to believe we may not.”


After the footage was shown opinions were extremely positive, adjectives like fun, badass, and awesome were repeated numerous times. Click here to read some reactions.

Alonso reassured fans that Edgar Wright will direct, which is something we already knew. He'll most likely begin on Ant-Man once he finishes his "Blood and Ice Cream" trilogy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It began when the trio worked on Shaun of the Dead, then Hot Fuzz and will conclude with The World's End.

She also addressed a rumor that came from a mysterious Twitter account which claimed that Viggo Mortensen was in negotiations to play Doctor Strange.
“We would love to work with Viggo Mortensen. I’ve been trying that for years. But I don’t know if Viggo is even acting anymore. I thought he wasn’t acting anymore. It would be great to work with him in the future, but we don’t have him signed, no.”

WHAT THEY SHOULD DO:

Release Ant-Man footage exclusively to buyers of the Phase 1 Box Set.

Viggo, he's gotta play a villain, right?! The guy screams scary persona non grata.

He'd be hella perfect for Zemo, but I just hope The Wonder Twins (Russo Bros.) Don't clutter Cap 2, or I will make a twitter account and spam the shit out of their page and buy all the seasons of Community on DVD and pee on the discs and light them on fire then throw them off a bridge!

I noticed how she denied Viggo, but not the Doc Strange rumor. I think that's a good sign.

Viggo as Dr. Strange. Confirmed that they want him but that he's not signed. I sure hope it works out. Trying not to get my hopes up too much.

I have faith that no matter who they cast as Strange, it'll be good. I also want to see Viggo come back to mainstream movies again. I miss that guy.

There are so many good actors out there that could be both talented, realistic, and affordable for Marvel to put into their films. And all of these guys need a big role to fill just once for the big screen.

Marvel should release the Iron Man footage from Comic Con along with the Ant-Man test real. It's insane that that footage is still under wraps. I understand that they want to give the people at the con exclusives and all, but all fans can't make it to San Diego with that herd. Enough time has elapsed now, releasing it should be a no-brainer. Throw us a bone, dammit!

Yeah I've pretty much stopped fancasting these movies, because no matter who Marvel picks, it's always someone I didn't even think of, and is amazing in the role.

Aww, bummer on the Vigo rumor. I'd have liked to see him in one of Marvels films. The guys a badass. You'd have to be with a first name like that.

A side note: wouldn't it be sweet if they actually signed Anthony Mackie for The Black Panther with a specific role to play on CA: TWS?

As long as there hasn't been an official press release, one could still hope

Theyre making Ant-Man so they can put him in Avengers 2! You people are acting like theyre making a movie of him for no reason. Every Avenger got their own movie before (except Widow and Barton of course, but they dont need one, and SHIELD is on the way so there)

Pym plays an important role in Avengers believe it or not!

I'm very excited about the Antman & Dr. Strange movies. I hope Marvel Studio's cast Ewan McGregor as Antman, and Jim Caviezel as Dr. Strange.

The Astonishing Ant-Man is one of my favorite comic book characters, Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and even Eric O'Grady. All interesting characters. CANNOT wait to see the test footage. I can wait, however, if they're gonna clean it up and put it at the end of Iron Man 3 though. Oh and cast Ant-Man (men). Can't wait.

man i have been through hell and high water trying to find a screening that was recorded of this. if anything they should make it apart of the Avengers Blu-Ray/Dvd bundle that would be an AAAAWESOME!!! bonus.

I'd love to see Viggo in a Marvel film, but not necessarily as Dr Strange. I'd really like to see him as a villain instead.

i'd leaning more towards jim caviezel for doctor strange..

agree on using viggo mortensen as a bad guy, that would differentiate with what most people are familiar with him..

and edgar wright has never done anything i didn't like/love so great, but it seems like ant-man exists in another universe, shouldn't it be part of phase 2?

The rumor was that Marvel wanted Mortenson for Strange, if anything she confirms that they want to and have tried to work with him! All she says is that he hasn't signed..that was never rumored.

is this the wife of alex alonso?? if so..what's wrong with this couple..?? HE said that it's a huge problem to visualize Wakanda, even though they already did Asgard with NO problem whatsoever.

and now this Alonso lady said she doesn't even realize that Viggo's still acting or not...i mean..i don't wanna sound mean, but, in her position, she shouldn't've made that kind of ridiculous comment like that. it just makes her sound..well, [cough] silly..to put it mildly.
