According to the Hollywood Reporter screenwriter Mark Bomback has been hired by 20th Century Fox to work on the script, that was initially put together by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. Bomback does have experience with the material as he did uncredited work on the first film. Besides the Total Recall remake, Bomback also worked on Len Wiseman's Live Free or Die Hard

Hollywood Reporter also reports that Andy Serkis will reprise his role of Caesar in the sequel. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes will be directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), replacing Rupert Wyatt, who did a marvelous job resurrecting the franchise with his box office hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

What's wrong with Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa's script!

The point is the first film was excellent, made lots of money and people want to see more

I don't think they'll be able to duplicate the AWEsomeness of the first one...

I hope so but it set pretty high bar for them to get over.

I would like to see the story successfully expanded but I'm skeptical at this point.

Have you read it?

Were you unhappy with Bomback's work on the first film?

Oh noes! First another director, then another screenwriter. 20th Century Fox sucks balls.

Calm down everyone, it's just a punch-up screenwriter. The first screenwriter puts down the story, the dialogue, the setting and then they get a new set of eyes to give it some more gusto. Standard studio operation screenwriting. They would do the same to best script in the world and the worst script.

No worries.

The first one was great. I hope they don't mess the sequel up.

Bomback has written such classics as Live Free or Die Hard, Race to Witch Mountain and Total Recall (the remake)...
