Guillermo Del Toro Says He Would Love To Make HEAVEN SENT; Denies Debunking Rumor

Recently it was reported that Guillermo del Toro was negotiating with Warner Bros. to make a team-up film featuring Swamp Thing, Deadman, and a bunch of lesser known characters from DC Comics. Today, Guillermo replied to a tweet that seemed to imply that he had no interest in the project.

Two days ago Latino-Review posted a story claiming that Guillermo del Toro and Warner Bros. were closing in on a deal that would see the Hellboy director put together his own supernatural Avengers-like team. It would feature a lot of DC Comics' second tier characters: Swamp Thing, Deadman, The Spectre, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon, and Etrigan the Demon.

Sounds almost too good to be true, so it comes as no surprise that several sites immediately thought a tweet from Pietro Filipponi was accurate and re-posted it.

Guillermo was then made aware of these comments on his official fansite, and had a reply.
"Wow- please contact whoever said I denied it. I cannot recall ever answering a question like that. Sadly I dont do tweeter. I denied being involved in JLA but this I would love to do!!!" - Guillermo del Toro

Another bit of news in all of this, is that Pietro followed that tweet by saying that he would be posting a full interview on Monday that he conducted with Guillermo. So, if del Toro can't remember answering a question about Heaven Sent, which could have only come within the past day or two, one has to wonder... I'll guess we'll find out on Monday.

Update: Pietro has clarified that the tweet is referring to an interview he had with Guillermo at New York Comic-Con. The tweet does not refer to Latino-Review's recent scoop.

BLT potato chips taste nothing like BLT's
toco89 - 11/3/2012, 12:28 PM
Haters hatin.

But Del Toro is not only the man, he's the perfect man for the job.
KaneVonDoom - 11/3/2012, 12:28 PM
But potato flavored BLT's taste very close to real potato chips.
NerdyGeek - 11/3/2012, 12:30 PM
HA!
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 12:39 PM
BOOM!!!
Come on, WB! He's up for it and it'll set a trend instead of following one.
Clive Owen for John Constantine.
nailbiter111 - 11/3/2012, 12:40 PM
toco89 - yes taco, GDT is a proper source. smh
toco89 - 11/3/2012, 12:42 PM
Why does it suck, this is great if its true. A great concept developed by a great director, who specializes in the nature of the source.
Bandido - 11/3/2012, 12:44 PM
Potential beam of hope

KaneVonDoom - 11/3/2012, 12:53 PM
@ Toco... Agreed. Maybe a "Justice League" type team would suit this better.
toco89 - 11/3/2012, 1:01 PM
@nailbiter

Let me know when youre done and Ill delete them. I'm not trying to annoy you, I'm doing this with the best attitude, I'm sure you are too.
nailbiter111 - 11/3/2012, 1:06 PM
toco89 - already took care of it. you can butcher it all you want when i put it on main. lol, cheers.
nailbiter111 - 11/3/2012, 1:10 PM
btw, the reason i used Avengers-like is because it's a superhero team that has been made into a movie. so i think it's a fair comparison, not trying to start a marvel/dc war.
soberchimera - 11/3/2012, 1:16 PM
Why doesn't he just make a Swamp Thing movie?
lalosuper3001 - 11/3/2012, 1:34 PM
Hey Warner Brothers! If you are checking this page, get your suits to take their heads out of their arses and listen to this idea! It is a great idea!
Hellsboy - 11/3/2012, 1:43 PM
is the movies of movies for del toro seriously why would he pass? but i need hellboy 3 and then after this im good for about 30 years or so
xizorkatarn - 11/3/2012, 1:57 PM
Damn, good casting @Froggy!
KnobGoblin - 11/3/2012, 1:59 PM
HellBoy 3 first!
nailbiter111 - 11/3/2012, 2:09 PM
nice job froggy, i like it. especially the gary cole inclusion.
toco89 - 11/3/2012, 2:16 PM
@froggy

Anybody but a deschanel, they're both so damned annoying.

Zatanna is intelligent, charming, and hot.

I gotta go with Clive Owen over McGregor as much as I like him. Maybe even Bond himself, Daniel Craig, gotta strike while its hot.

TheFirstAvenger97 - 11/3/2012, 2:19 PM
Thanks froggy, but you could just make a fan-fic. Great cast!
SKOne - 11/3/2012, 2:27 PM
I would love for Guillermo Del Toro to do a movie like this, it fits perfectly with his style. However, I don't think anyone should ever believe what Pietro Filiponi says, I'm pretty he posted a bunch of false articles on this site last summer and started a bunch of casting rumors to promote Kevin Pennington.
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 2:34 PM
@Froggy
No offense I love Zooey Deschanel but, she reminds me too much of my aunt so I can't she her as sexy. I would prefer a "sexier" actress. Preferably someone with a natural accent. I would nominate an actress similar to Eva Green.
I also always imagined God's Wrath, "The Spectre", to be someone with a deep resonating voice. Preferably he would also be of west African decent like in the comics. I would think an actor along the lines of James Earl Jones would be a good choice. They could have another actor do the body performance. They could use a similar technique to what they did with Darth Vader, or Doctor Manhattan. I would want someone with an astral, or non-earthly voice to voice over The Spectre.
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 2:39 PM
On a side note: David Hayter would be an amazing choice for one of the voices of the characters. Steve Blum would also be a good choice. These two voice actors' voices are very distinct and they would resonate well with the audience.
Mark Hamil would be a good choice for either Etrigan or Swamp-Thing.
HellsHammer - 11/3/2012, 2:53 PM
Really hope this happens!
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 3:12 PM
@Shamo
I agree with you, we should have some more continuity in the movie verse of comics.
toco89 - 11/3/2012, 3:13 PM
@above

West african decent? Did you make that up? Cuz one he's a spiritual entity, and two he always used an american host in the comics, one of them being Hal Jordan and the original was some dude named Jim Corrigan.

Michael Ironside, aka Darkside in Superman TAS, is a good choice for The Spectre.
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 3:16 PM
West African decent is a political correct term for a black man. "Most" black people are descended from West Africa. African American, can refer to a Caucasian. Many people from South Africa and some places in East Africa are mostly dominated by Caucasian.
TheMarvelWay - 11/3/2012, 3:27 PM
Smallville had a hot Zatanna. And in the episode 'Warrior' she tried to rape Clark but Clark was stupid and resisted.
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 3:45 PM
Jenna Dewan looks the part, but I do not know about her acting.

Julia Voth,is the same story as Jenna Dewan. She is a fan favorite for the part of Zatanna though...

Serinda Swan already played her in Smallvile so that is a no.

Rachel Weisz would be an amazing choice.

There is also Eva Green.

Another good casting could potentially be Jaime Alexander but considering she is working for Marvel I do not know how that would pan out.

Any of the above would be great choices for Zatanna. In my opinion.

Well thanks for all the info, but my aunt being from Niger(yes Niger and Nigeria are two different countries) and her daughter being a missionary in South Africa, I'm familiar.

But your reply then makes me wonder, why a "black man"?

Race has nothing to do with the character.
Jollem - 11/3/2012, 4:06 PM
NICE!! love del toro! and he also said "tweeter". can't wait to see this movie when/if it's made. gdt doing hellblazer and swamp-thing? yes, please
nailbiter111 - 11/3/2012, 4:07 PM
KamenRiderJ22 - your comment doesn't make any sense. Like you posted before reading the article.
TheOneAboveAll - 11/3/2012, 4:07 PM
@toco89
I know my geography well enough to know that Niger and Nigeria are two different countries.
I find that genetically black people have better built bodies naturally and better voices. Then again as I also stated, they could have two people play the same part.
thatdylhooper - 11/3/2012, 4:30 PM
THIS IS INSANE!!!! So much good news lately
WeAreVenom86 - 11/3/2012, 5:18 PM
We see great things with this if Del Toro gets it! And no...leave the cigarette smoking in with Constantine...that health bullshit they pulled with the Keanu Reeves film was retarded. In fact...that movie WAS retarded. But yeah...great cast selection! But we would have to go with Clive Owen as Constantine.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 5:40 PM
I'd rather see Del Toro on this film than Dr. Strange. He would do an awesome Dr. Strange film, but I've always wanted to see a really trippy Dr. Strange film like the original Lee/ Ditko comics.Maybe Terrance Malick or Aronofsky would be good for that.
CaptainObvious - 11/3/2012, 5:49 PM
@HalloweenJack- Can you please show me the article where it is confirmed Del Toro will direct Doctor Strange? Nope? Moving on.
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/3/2012, 5:57 PM
Would be awesome to see this happen but at least Swamp Thing, Deadman and Hellblazer need their own movies first.
GarthRanzz - 11/3/2012, 6:11 PM
I am more excited about this than any other team movie. They should make a Justice League Dark movie instead of JLA.
DukeAcureds - 11/3/2012, 6:13 PM
Between this, Justice League and Star Wars 7, it's been a hell of a week or so.
