2005's Batman Begins was only nominated for one Oscar, and that went to Wally Pfister, but he lost to Dion Beebe (Memoirs of a Geisha). While 2008's The Dark Knight was treated much better at 81st Academy Awards, as the film was nominated in eight categories: Actor in a Supporting Role, Art Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing, Makeup, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects. The film ended up winning two of those categories as Heath Ledger won Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Richard King won for Best Sound Editing. So, how well or poorly will the Academy treat The Dark Knight Rises?

Sorry, TDKR doesn't deserve any major Oscars, it's not nearly as good as TDK.
Moakynubs - 11/12/2012, 11:08 AM
Wow, new stills! This is so exciting, I can't believe these images weren't included in the movie that I saw! This makes me think the movie is so much better and that it deserves an award!
NerdyGeek - 11/12/2012, 11:11 AM
PaulRom - 11/12/2012, 11:12 AM
It definitely deserves Best Director, Actor, Actress, Score, Cinematography and maybe Picture/Screenplay. I honestly thought it was a better film than Dark Knight, other than a couple of things.
Knightrider - 11/12/2012, 11:13 AM
You may or may not like this movie, that is your opinion, but we should all be supporting this campaign regardless.

CBM's have come such a long way and you know what: They deserve to be seen as high quality productions now. Yeah, there will still be the bad movies, but when it is about time they are taken seriously.

You have terrible films winning all the time, and the academy mocks CBM as if they are uneducated action flicks, but they need to realise that is no longer the case and until we push for a CBM to win an award, then it will never be taken seriously.

Imagine if it did win, we would no longer a CBM fans have to vindicate to anyone why we watch these films. People could be like "You like CBM's" and we could turn around and say "What you mean CBM's that have won academy awards? Yeah, I like them"
SageMode - 11/12/2012, 11:22 AM
Trying to generate Oscar buzz? LMAO. Smh.......
GizmoEl - 11/12/2012, 11:22 AM
It was a good movie but not Oscar worthy at all. Tdk was a million times better
PaulRom - 11/12/2012, 11:22 AM
@Knightrider: Amen! Most logical comment I've seen on this site in a while.
Knightrider - 11/12/2012, 11:34 AM
@PaulRom Thanks.

@SageMode Every film that thinks has a chance of an oscar will try and generate buzz, especially if released several months before.

If this tells us anything it is you can probably expect a re-release of the film about a month out from the awards to replant it fresh in everybodies minds.
JDUKE25 - 11/12/2012, 11:35 AM
After watching The Amazing Spider-Man a few more times, I honestly think it had better effects than Avengers.

There were a few scenes in TASM where I thought they used real people for certain parts of a scene, but it turned out to actually be CG.

There were many times in Avengers when the green screen effect was so obvious. They did a good job with Hulk, but the environment and some other effects were terrible.
DukeAcureds - 11/12/2012, 11:37 AM
Caine, Hathaway, Zimmer, Goyer and Nolan all deserve Oscar(tm)s.
But don't forget Whedon.
Happy11 - 11/12/2012, 11:43 AM
I like most others felt underwhelmed when I first watched this but after more viewings it is an excellent movie but Oscar worthy well maybe sound or cinematography but best picture or actor nominations I can't see it. I think we all expected too much from TDKR.
DukeAcureds - 11/12/2012, 11:44 AM
It's so fvcking cool that a cbm has a real chance at Oscar glory, right now.
batfan175 - 11/12/2012, 11:46 AM
I think this film has a real shot at winning best cinematography. Everyone agreed that the film at least looked stunning and maybe Hathaway can pick up best supporting actress (small chance but hey I think she was a real surprise for all of us because of how good she was).
JDUKE25 - 11/12/2012, 11:47 AM
@batz11 LMAO best death scene ever
JDUKE25 - 11/12/2012, 11:50 AM
Can't believe this death scene never got put up for an Oscar

LucasMend - 11/12/2012, 11:55 AM
TDKR doesn't deserve any Oscars.
rockerdude22 - 11/12/2012, 12:00 PM
TDKR was a good movie, but Oscar-worthy? Not really. Maybe best cinematography, but that's about it.

*Remember, this is just my opinion. It's okay if you disagree with it.*
SugarYumYum - 11/12/2012, 12:08 PM
Only ones I disagree strongly with are Bale, Hardy, Caine, Cotillard and Best Film Editing. All were the weakest parts of the film for me. Disagree with JGL as well, love him great actor but this was not a remarkable let alone Oscar worthy role for him. The rest I'm fine with if they get the nom.
jasonicus - 11/12/2012, 12:10 PM
They don't give Oscars for mediocrity.
Equivocal - 11/12/2012, 12:10 PM
I'm laughing my ass off so hard !!!

best pic ?
best actor ??
best actress ???
best supporting actress ?????
best cinematographer ??????
best supporting actor Hardy ??????????????????

IDKwhatToChoose - 11/12/2012, 12:10 PM
Still highly disappointed in this movie... Not worth an Oscar even as a comic book movie fan I can't support this for an Oscar
JDUKE25 - 11/12/2012, 12:12 PM
The only thing I could see Avengers getting nominated for is maybe sound.
DarkArts - 11/12/2012, 12:12 PM
I went in to this movie expecting a masterpiece as good or better from Nolan as The Inception and The Dark Knight.

What I got was a very dull, dreary movie, full of holes and contradictions.
It now seems the film existed merely as a stage for the actors and Director to earn an Oscar. That would explain why at no time did Nolan even attempt to entertain but just showcase what he felt was great performances and artistic direction.
And while there were some great performances, excluding Marion Cotillard, the performances were not part of a powerful story or film.
I think the Academy should piss on the copies of the film they ship them and send them back.

Equivocal - 11/12/2012, 12:18 PM
@grayfox

you're 100% right
Michael Caine IS the only actor actually acting in this charade....
RedeyeJedi - 11/12/2012, 12:18 PM
Boooh!!! Most overrated goddamned movie I've ever seen.
Nolan is done destroying Batman, can we please move on?
PistonSmash - 11/12/2012, 12:20 PM
As much as I want CBM's to be taken more seriously, TDKR doesn't deserve an Oscar for pretty much anything. An argument could be made for Best Score and MAYBE Best Cinematography but nothing else. Also, I'm not going to support the campaign for an oscar of the movie JUST because it is a CBM. That is stupid. With that logic, the first Hulk film should have won Best Picture.
DrHorrible - 11/12/2012, 12:22 PM
Is there a chance that The Dark Knight Rises will win any Oscars?

rockerdude22 - 11/12/2012, 12:22 PM
Oh boy, I can already see how this thread's gonna turn out! Better get out the booze!

Giznad - 11/12/2012, 12:22 PM
I'd give the film an Oscar Mayer hot dog...with chili. Even though a chili hot dog is a bit of an oxymoron. Amirite? Amirite?
batfan175 - 11/12/2012, 12:23 PM
@RedeyeJedi: not until this site keeps bashing nolan. if you guys stop telling us he's a pretentious devil we'll stop saying he's the greatest director ever. deal?
AC1 - 11/12/2012, 12:23 PM
Not Oscar worthy at all, major disappointment. Actually, Hans Zimmer should get the Oscar for the score, one of the best composers in film at the moment.
DarkArts - 11/12/2012, 12:27 PM
@grayfox117 The acting wasnt the problem except for Marion Cotillard's which couldve and shouldve been fixed in post production with some reshoots.
The problem was the story that was not entertaining and had so many holes it was more crippled than Bruce Wayne. It wasnt very well Directed or thought out. It was full of gaffes such as an All-Male Police force trapped in a tunnel for months and emerging shaved and still overweight.
Happy11 - 11/12/2012, 12:28 PM
At least CAMs and Oscars are being mentioned in the same breathe could u imagine this years ago.

Happy11 - 11/12/2012, 12:29 PM
CBMs not CAMs lol
Funsize - 11/12/2012, 12:33 PM
I wish them luck.
GuardianAngel - 11/12/2012, 12:37 PM
Tom Hardy is the Aaron Eckhart of this film. He did an amazing job and deserves recognition, but is overshadowed by another cast mate (Heath Ledger/Anne Hathaway).
