A little over a decade ago, writers Paul Dini ("Batman: The Brave and the Bold") and Alan Burnett ("Green Lantern: First Flight") were hired by Warner Bros. to write a screenplay for a live-action film adaptation of the popular animated series, Batman Beyond. Warner Bros. even hired the Remember the Titans director, Boaz Yakin, to co-write and direct. A year later, WB would put the project on hold, going in a different direction. Dini discusses that project with Kevin Smith, and his pitch for a Ra's al Ghul-oriented Batman film that was never made.

Terry McGinnis was just an ordinary teenager.... until his father was mysteriously murdered. Suspecting foul play at his father's company Wayne/Powers Corporation, Terry meets Bruce Wayne and learns a secret identity hidden for decades. Now too old to battle injustice, Wayne refuses to help. So Terry does what any brash young kid would do: steal the Batsuit and take matters into his own hands! Vowing to avenge his father's death, Terry dons the high-tech suit tricked out with jetpacks, a supersensitive microphone and even camouflage capabilities in search of his father's assassin. Get in on the action from the beginning of a new partnership between an ex-crimefighter and his apprentice.

I liked the cartoon just not a fan of it being in any other medium. It's a Elseworld story to me it's not cannon. And would rather see money spent on a regular Batman movie or one of DCs other superheros then this.

Would have been cool to see
TheOneAboveAll - 12/7/2013, 7:29 PM
He is more like Spider man than Batman though

Why weren't their ideas for a Live action Bruce Wayne batman incorporated into the films?
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 7:38 PM
Actually Batman Beyond reminded me a lot of Phantom 2040 which came out a few years before Batman Beyond. BB kind of felt like a rip off of that series.

Never put "Paul Dini" and "Fail" in the same sentence!

Oh yeah I forgot...

"PLEASEEEE MR DINI RETURN TO WRITE THE NEXT BATMAN VIDEO GAME!!!"

p.s. Your wife is so hot! lol
TheSuperguy - 12/7/2013, 7:45 PM
That could have been awesome! So many places they could have gone with that.
ManCalledSting - 12/7/2013, 7:48 PM
Dmon: I could see that being an influence on BB, but I would call it a rip off.
Asterisk - 12/7/2013, 7:57 PM
Kevin Smith/Paul Dini should do the Justice League flick, not Snyder/Goyer.
ManCalledSting - 12/7/2013, 8:00 PM
Paul Dini, sure. Kevin Smith,no.
eviltattooedguy - 12/7/2013, 8:05 PM
Clint Eastwood for old batman please
BlackIceJoe - 12/7/2013, 8:08 PM
I would have liked to have seen his take on the Batman mythology. I wish WB would even let him help Goyer with the DC Universe. Even better would have been if Greg Weisman & Bruce Timm were involved too. This way more ideas could be thrown around. So this way WB could put out better films.

I remember Terry constantly getting his ass handed to him in BB, he kinda sucked as batman.
OwenWilsonsNose - 12/7/2013, 8:14 PM
Kevin Smith is fine when he writes his own kind of material. Most of his stuff is way too self referential though, and it ends up coming off as fairly pretentious, even in the face of the absurdity of most of it. Look no further than his Superman script (which was pretty bad), or his horrible Batman arc called The Widening Gyre.

I enjoy Smiths podcasts. I love listening to Fatman on Batman. He's a true blue fan of comic books and comic book movies, but anyone who thinks he should get within 100 miles of a comic book movie script is out of their minds.

MightyZeus - 12/7/2013, 8:22 PM
What could of been.

I would have enjoyed watching Batman Beyond on the big screen. It would have been cool.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:23 PM
@JoeMomma29 LOL Yeah that movie was bad could have been so much better. Phantom 2040 was a pretty awesome series though. Also I don't know if you have ever read the Phantom Comic strips or Comic books but he is a pretty awesome character in general.
GetsugaTensho22 - 12/7/2013, 8:24 PM
The one thing i HATE about Batman Beyond is that it's so heavily rooted in the Animated Series continuity. They ruined Batgirl and screwed over Dick Grayson plus almost the entire roster of the "future" Justice League.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:25 PM
@OwenWilsonsNose Quiver by Kevin Smith was pretty good.
JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:26 PM
@ Dmon.

I agree the animated series rocked! The movie though is a guilt pleasure for me.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:26 PM
@GetsugaTensho22 The worst is what they did to Tim Drake they made him go Psycho and become the Joker how [frick]ed up is that.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:31 PM
@JoeMomma29 LOL Don't tell anyone it is for me too. But had always wished that half the movie took place in the 30's and the other half in modern day with two different Phantoms. How cool would that have been?
JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:32 PM
@ Dmon.

Here is another guilty pleasure!!!!!!

mgeoff88 - 12/7/2013, 8:32 PM
What a shame. That would have been awesome to see.
Optimus83 - 12/7/2013, 8:35 PM
I WANT BATMAN BEYOND LIVE-ACTION MOVIE FILM. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!
MrSundayMovies - 12/7/2013, 8:36 PM
That sounds pretty amazing.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:41 PM
@JoeMomma29 Yeah that one too. I actually have a bunch of old "The Shadow" radio show tapes I used to listen to on long car rides.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:41 PM
@Joe Penelope Ann Miller was so gorgeous in that movie.
Namor - 12/7/2013, 8:42 PM
I know nothing about batman beynod, but just seeing the pics, he looks terrible! I mean, who gave the go ahead for that design of Batman?
JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:45 PM
@ Dmon

Yeah here is a list of my guilty pleasures

1. The Shadow

2. The Phantom

3. Dick Tracy (though this movie was excellent)

4. Flash Gordon

JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:46 PM
@ Namor

How old are you? Batman Beyond was one of the best cartoons on t.v.. Also they established some killer villains for him in the show.
JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:47 PM
@ Namor

Sorry just asking your age because I assume you are younger and did not get a chance to watch those.
Dmon - 12/7/2013, 8:48 PM
@Joe Don't forget this one

JoeMomma29 - 12/7/2013, 8:49 PM
@ Dmon

Oh my and I just watched that last weekend!!!!! Yeah that was on great, I love the beginning where they take the guys fake leg off and it is a machine gun.
Super12 - 12/7/2013, 8:50 PM
Paul Dini is the MAN. But I would have zero interest in a Batman Beyond movie. Zero.
