New Trailer For Upcoming Sci-Fi Movie THE GIVER

The plot of this one does sound very like Divergent, but the source novel was written more than ten years before that. Add to that a hell of a cast which includes Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, and we may have something interesting on our hands. See what you think of the latest trailer after the jump.

In a perfect world where there is no conflict, racism or sickness, every member of society has a specific role, and 16 year-old Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memory. As Jonas uncovers the truth behind his world's past, he discovers that many years earlier his forefathers gave up humanity in order to have a stable society.

The Giver is directed by Phillip Noyce, based on the 1993 novel of same name by Lois Lowry. The film stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites and Odeya Rush. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 15, 2014.

Anything Meryl Streep chooses to be in, then I'm automatically there.
monkeyballs - 6/4/2014, 10:27 AM
This does look good. Plus it's got all of the old-timers in it. Finally a movie for Gusto.
Pasto - 6/4/2014, 10:29 AM

Monkey says "[frick] this shit" a few times a year...then returns...
NICKHART - 6/4/2014, 10:49 AM
this book is NOTHING like divergent..
ALegendaryPanda - 6/4/2014, 10:52 AM
This looks pretty good actually. I think I remember reading this book a LONG time ago.
Humperdink - 6/4/2014, 10:52 AM
I take it from that image that this was a comic book? How did I miss it?
Looks great, actually.

I love Streep and Bridges.
MrMartinMarvel - 6/4/2014, 10:56 AM

sKeemAn - 6/4/2014, 10:58 AM

Hi Ladies. I've been crazy busy these last few months. So not much time to log in, unfortunately. I try to read a few articles from the good contributors and do a few drive-by's on Gusto when I can ;)

sKeemAn - 6/4/2014, 11:03 AM
This actually looks like it will be realy good. I'll have to see this.
JamesMan - 6/4/2014, 11:06 AM
I thought the first trailer was horrible but this has made me totally excited to see the movie!
LAsBruceWayne - 6/4/2014, 11:10 AM

Who wants to put money on how that was the best parts of the movie strung together to basically tell us the whole plot and the rest is filled with teen "love/confusion" drama. With some shitty plot twist that his dad was a driving force behind the "emotionless living".. I can smell it...

AsianVersionOfET - 6/4/2014, 11:10 AM
Looks [frick]in awful
LAsBruceWayne - 6/4/2014, 11:11 AM

But the trailer itself did a good job.. SO who am I kidding...

InfiniteMonkey - 6/4/2014, 11:17 AM
Looks like a straight to See Fee (SyFy) movie.
QuestiontheAnswer - 6/4/2014, 11:21 AM
The book is legendary but 21 years too late, its popularity has dwindled. TFIOS will be the highest grossing novel adaptation this year.
QuestiontheAnswer - 6/4/2014, 11:23 AM
@Infinite
I thought it was pronounced Siffy.
MexicanSuperman - 6/4/2014, 11:24 AM
Trash. If only David Fischer directed this, we would have an instant classic.

IM GOING TO PASS THIS LOOK BORING TO ME
voxen - 6/4/2014, 11:26 AM
The Giver is actually an award winning book for teens thats been out since like the late 80's or 90's. I read it a long time ago but its really good if it reminds me of any movie it reminds me of the film where the kids get sucked into there favorite 50's tv show and little by little the characters change and color is brought into the world. The same with The Giver.
LordOfTheZegaRealm - 6/4/2014, 11:35 AM
I read the book, so good.
SuperCat - 6/4/2014, 11:41 AM
Looks like a TNT original.
GreenArrow1941 - 6/4/2014, 11:55 AM
Looks like the took away one of the most important things from the book, sad really it's the best part.
AXE - 6/4/2014, 11:56 AM
looks actually good, and I can understand jeff's accent in the movie
GreenArrow1941 - 6/4/2014, 11:56 AM
"dad was a driving force behind the "emotionless living" Nah, that's not what happens, at least not in the book.
Richardness - 6/4/2014, 11:59 AM
Better than the first trailer (glad to see at least moments of non color), but they definitely cranked up the "action" that I don't really remember from the book...of course I was 14 when I read it last so it's been awhile
matterhorn - 6/4/2014, 12:21 PM
i loved this book...but looks like they're going with the whole world war z route. that being said, it looks alright
hench - 6/4/2014, 12:25 PM
Loved the book, hope the movie does it justice.
GodzillaKart - 6/4/2014, 12:41 PM
Looks interesting. Hope it is good.
Lert - 6/4/2014, 12:42 PM
