A First Look At The Upcoming THUNDERBIRDS Reboot

Film Divider have managed to get hold of ITV's invite to next week's Licencing Expo in Vegas, which gives us our very first glimpse at their rebooted tv series, Thuderbirds Are Go. This live-action miniature/CG hybrid will feature the voice of Rosamund Pike (The World's End) as Lady Penelope.

thunderbirds are go

Fifty years after its television debut the iconic series is back in production featuring a talented cast led by Rosamund Pike (The World’s End, Gone Girl) as Lady Penelope and David Graham (Thunderbirds 1965) reprising his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker. Debuting on ITV in 2015 this re-invention of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s much-loved series will be produced using an innovative mix of CGI animation and live-action miniature sets. Unstoppable inventor Brains will be voiced by Kayvan Novak (Fonejacker, Facejacker) whilst Tracy brothers Gordon and John are both played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Game of Thrones). Rasmus Hardiker (Saxondale, Lead Balloon) has been cast as both the youngest and oldest Tracy brothers Alan and Scott. The fifth Tracy brother, Virgil, will be played by David Menkin. Tracy Island matriarch Grandma Tracy is voiced by Sandra Dickinson (Amazing World of Gumball, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and master villain The Hood played by Andres Williams (M.I. High, Foyle’s War). Plus Thunderbirds Are Go! will feature new characters including Kayo, the Tracy brothers’ friend and fellow island resident, who will be played by Angel Coulby (Merlin, Dancing on the Edge) and Colonel Casey voiced by Adjoa Andoh (Invictus, Doctor Who)

Wait wait..wasn't there a film not even, well actually a decade ago?! Why is this being rebooted??

Then again, the 2004 film wasn't that great imo. eh, i guess we'll see...
LMB10 - 6/12/2014, 7:44 AM

McNyagano - 6/12/2014, 7:44 AM
Are you [frick]ing kidding me?

MightyZeus - 6/12/2014, 7:45 AM
That Thunderbirds film was just awful. The tv series was fun to watch. I don't know what to expect from the reboot, i'm hoping it'll catch my interest and that it will be fun.
sKeemAn - 6/12/2014, 7:48 AM
Will it be puppets?

DrunkenNukem - 6/12/2014, 7:53 AM

I thought I was old, but Thunderbirds Go was before my time. And I'll take people's word that the movie in the 2000s sucked. But, eh, whatever. I'm just not interested in puppet-based things.
CherryBomb - 6/12/2014, 8:01 AM
Rosamund Pike's voice is just perfection.

OrgasmicPotatoe - 6/12/2014, 8:04 AM
What is a Thuderbird ?
case - 6/12/2014, 8:04 AM
I had no idea this was happening. Didn't Team America spoil thunderbirds forever?
Jollem - 6/12/2014, 8:05 AM
@JediPhilosopher - apparently not. going by the lame cgi yoda

youknowmyname - 6/12/2014, 8:10 AM
If it's anything like the Captain Scarlet remake a few years back I'll be very happy, it was suprisingly decent.
GL - 6/12/2014, 8:14 AM
Didn't know this was getting rebooted. I'll watch!
NicolausCopernicus - 6/12/2014, 8:14 AM
The director of the awful 2004 film now has directed some episodes of AOS. Think about it.
Dios - 6/12/2014, 8:18 AM
@Orgasmic

I think it's a car

Practical effects beat cgi any day of the week, for me.
StarYeezus - 6/12/2014, 8:23 AM
Team America was the closest thing to a great Thunderbirds film adaptation.
Fun1gUy - 6/12/2014, 8:29 AM
LOOKS WHACK like GUS's CRACK
TheDudeRusty - 6/12/2014, 8:37 AM
Don't insult the old one's crack bro else he'll bring out his Thunderbird.
BezierCurve - 6/12/2014, 8:42 AM
Right on. The series inspired Grant Morrison's take on the X-Men being a "international Rescue" that was there to save people rather than fight stuff.

And the ships look dope.
BezierCurve - 6/12/2014, 9:09 AM
@grif British people.
BlindJustice - 6/12/2014, 9:25 AM
@McGee - Take me with ya! I'll bring the beer!
@McGee - WHAT. THE. [FRICK].
BlackIceJoe - 6/12/2014, 9:34 AM
I almost got super excited thinking I was going to read Thundercats. But I guess it wasn't meant to be.
BlindJustice - 6/12/2014, 9:57 AM
@BlackIceJoe - Me too. Apparently everything British is in now. The actors, the shows, the music (again, but poppy-ier), the foo... okay maybe not the food. Ugh.

Every time I see the word Thunderbird I think of Thundercats or Silver Hawks.

Anyway, here are MY favorite Thunderbirds!

OpticBlastWins - 6/12/2014, 10:04 AM
Yeahhhhh. Cause the last time they tried this it worked out so well. What was it 3 oscars?
BritishMonkey - 6/12/2014, 10:46 AM
Thunderbirds reboot? Since when?
brokenexcitement - 6/12/2014, 10:47 AM
Didn't they already try to reboot this like a decade ago? -_-
Nigrutin - 6/12/2014, 10:47 AM
For a moment there I tought it said THUNDERCATS.
brokenexcitement - 6/12/2014, 10:49 AM
Soooo....they've actually tried this out TWO other times before according to their wiki page. Check the link

@ Merc

I think I am destined to always laugh at that scene of Team America.
Mercwitham0uth - 6/12/2014, 12:08 PM
@ChiliConCarney

Love that scene too. Laughed at the puppet yelling at him too:

"Get off the street you [frick]ing bum! You gave up on life didn't you? DIDN'T YOU!?"
JonF - 6/12/2014, 12:12 PM
The ignorance expressed on this site never fails to amaze! This is CBM.com, people! Don't you think you ought to do some research into sci-fi and fantasy classics?

Obviously, standards have changed in 50 years time, but this show was highly regarded in its day!!

Ever heard of Speed Racer? Gigantor? How about Astro Boy or Gatchaman? You guys are pathetic!

@grif - your life may suck but don't take it out on cbms! Ya grinch!!!
CyberBishop - 6/12/2014, 12:51 PM
wut??
