Before there was Batman, there was GOTHAM. Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world’s greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon’s story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world’s most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them – the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker? GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil, and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time. Growing up in Gotham City’s surrounding suburbs, JAMES GORDON (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards, “Open Grave,” “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid. Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue, “Sons of Anarchy,” “Terriers,” “Vikings,” “Copper”), as the two stumble upon the city’s highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes’ hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, BRUCE (David Mazouz, “Touch”), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy’s profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer. As he navigates the often-underhanded politics of Gotham’s criminal justice system, Gordon will confront imposing gang boss FISH MOONEY (Jada Pinkett Smith, “The Matrix” franchise, “HawthoRNe”), and many of the characters who will become some of fiction’s most renowned, enduring villains, including a teenaged SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (acting newcomer Camren Bicondova) and OSWALD COBBLEPOT/THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor, “The Walking Dead”).While the crime drama will follow Gordon’s turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain SARAH ESSEN (Zabryna Guevara, “Burn Notice”), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, ALFRED (Sean Pertwee, “Camelot,” “Elementary”). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he’s destined to be.GOTHAM is based upon characters published by DC Entertainment and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist”) wrote the pilot, which was directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the “CSI” franchise, “Nikita”). John Stephens will serve as an executive producer on the series.

I can't wait for this series. Still not sold on young Catwoman though
TheAbaryMan369 - 6/18/2014, 4:24 PM
Nice footage, though I can't see how this is considered a clip...
TonyChu - 6/18/2014, 4:25 PM
That was cool. I have no problem with this series. If you read Gotham Central then you know a series based on GCPD could work. I just don't like they are including the Joker this early.
Azbat - 6/18/2014, 4:30 PM
was Cobblepot holding an umbrella?

This is going to be a great show. I love the tone and im sure a show based on gcpd can work. It is based like 20yrs prior to batman so i would expect to see younger versions of each character(which people have complained about). So im really looking forward to this show along with constantine, flash and season 3 of Arrow.
AlphaAndDecima - 6/18/2014, 4:39 PM
I hope they respect The Penguin. I stopped becoming a fan of Burton as soon as I saw Batman Returns.
RorMachine - 6/18/2014, 4:40 PM
TheDufase19089, no you didn't and I have the screencap to prove it.

@ BatmanRobinNightwing

20 years? No, no, I don't know how you got that. Bruno Heller said that there will be come certain "conclusion" of Bruce becoming Batman, either literal or metaphorical, after seven-eight years. I'm sure in the series finale, a bat will break through one of the windows at Wayne Manor where a 18 year old Bruce is brooding.
DlAMONDZ - 6/18/2014, 4:41 PM
We seriously didn't need a show like this.
Super12 - 6/18/2014, 4:42 PM
Can't wait for this...its gonna be great to see all the crybaby haters eat their words.
Azbat - 6/18/2014, 4:45 PM
@Super12
I hope to be able to eat my words.
Super12 - 6/18/2014, 4:50 PM
@Azbat - at least youre honest. I really think this will be a good surprise. Sure its gonna be slightly different than some iterations, every one is. But for a fanbase that usually complains about too much batman, im shocked that now they cant imagine a show about comic book characters without him.
Ignition - 6/18/2014, 4:50 PM
Literally no comic book adaptation needs to be made.
BatfleckReturns - 6/18/2014, 4:51 PM
Looks pretty awesome, but Fish Mooney became one of the most dangerous villains around? Then how come we never heard of her in any other media incarnation!? Would've preferred to see Vincent Falcone and his son Carmine.
MantiniumMan - 6/18/2014, 4:55 PM
Nice....looks sleek....penguin with the mob meat hooks....nice touch.....
MrSotoMan - 6/18/2014, 4:56 PM
......did Gotham steal Fantastic Four & my movie Vigilante idea for a trailer song?
SuperCat - 6/18/2014, 4:57 PM
Before Penguin became fat.
Azbat - 6/18/2014, 4:57 PM
@Batfleck
Falcone would have been better. or Sionis.

BEAUTIFUL

Love the vibe they're going for with this show
Mothchild - 6/18/2014, 5:01 PM
Awesome sauce. Can't wait! Flash, Constantine, Gotham and Arrow. We're getting spoiled.

Also, I have no problem with a new character. Probably just means she's going to die.

I suspect Maroni and Falcone will be around the edges of the story.
Mothchild - 6/18/2014, 5:02 PM
Penguins eat fish.... remember that.....
storyteller - 6/18/2014, 5:06 PM
Well Jim you clearly failed since Bruce needed to dress up like a Bat a decade or so later.

I hope that if the show goes on long enough they just time skip.
MrBlackjack - 6/18/2014, 5:08 PM
That was better than what I thought it was going to be.
Mothchild - 6/18/2014, 5:10 PM
spoilt*
Mothchild - 6/18/2014, 5:11 PM
This show is going to be hard-hitting. I can feel it in my bones... mainly my cranium.
Batmate0 - 6/18/2014, 5:22 PM
Definitely like the tone of the show and I think it'll be really good. The one thing I'm iffy on though is young Catwoman. But yeah I hope they do a time skip too after a couple of seasons so we can get to Bruce kicking ass.
WinterSoldier33 - 6/18/2014, 5:23 PM
glad it is not on cw, and it is on fox.

this tv spot makes me want to watch now

@McGee

LOL I hope you write comedy for a living. Your talents are wasted if you don't.
MarkV - 6/18/2014, 5:55 PM
I have to admit, it looks well done.

Do not want baby Catwoman, though. DO NOT WANT
Varchar - 6/18/2014, 5:57 PM
This might have the potential to be really good. I saw Penguin seated behind Mooney, so I guess they work together?
