Charlize Theron Wants To Play Catwoman In The Dark Knight Sequel

Add her name to an ever growing list! Theron is the latest actress to be linked to the role of Batman's feline foe.
I hadn't heard this particular rumor myself, but Charlize Theron certainly has. It sounds like she would be more than happy to squeeze into Selina Kyle's Cat suit.

"It's news to me," Theron said about the rumor. "But that's kick-ass news. I like that. I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, and director Chris Nolan is a genius. So I would be an idiot to not consider that."

Theron is the latest actress to openly express interest in the role. Angelina Jolie, Rhona Mitra, Rachel Weisz, and Megan Fox have all come forward in saying they would like to play the part. Of course, rumors fly over the casting of Catwoman more than any other character. According to an internet rumor Cher was only a whisker away from nabbing the role. So this is probably just more of the same nonsense.

But, for my money, I think Theron is the best candidate for Catwoman I have heard so far.

yeah out of the list of candidates above Theron is definitely the best actress IMO. I have never been dissappointed with her performance in anything even if the movie was bad.

I think she's a great actress, definitely a good idea for the role. I know Nolan is supposedly not interested in Catwoman but I hope he will consider it. And I agree, those comparison pics you found are really perfect!

Theron is a good choice. She is a good, well-known actress that isnt too popular (and thus overshadowing the part like Im afraid might happen with Jolie) with a solid roster of decent films under her belt. And no, Leee, Boobs shouldnt be a factor. They can just pull a King Artur treatment on her if it is. Also Deadshot and Black Mask would be cool, but no one knows what they are. Riddler and Catwoman are much more well-known, so it is only logical on the studios part to use them first. Eventually, if the franchise keeps up, theyll likely get to them sooner or later, but for now Im pretty sure you have to wait a bit :(

PS: And yes I know Ras and Scarecrow arent household names either, but they are a hell of alot more established and known than Deadshot and Blackmask.

Without a doubt the best choice I have heard so far. She's a great actress who isn't too much opf a sex symbol like Jolie or Fox, and has the acting chops for the role, unlike all of the others. She is definitely up to par with the rest of the cast of these movies. I would greatly approve of this.

oh! Pfeiffer is my most favorite catwoman of them all! Its why its been so hard for me to imagine someone else taking her place. But again in Nolans universe I dont think she would fly. I think nolan would make her more of a force to reckoned with. Pfeiffer no one took her serious till she started cracking the whip.

After dark knight's lack of physical action, I'd much prefer a villain that Bats can get his hands on. I really don't want to see him fighting a woman no matter how popular Catwoman is. I want the most realistic physical challenge for him. I don't see Nolan using Killer Croc, maybe Bane with Riddler lurking in the background.

Is batman supposed to fight catwoman? I thought she is meant to bring out another side of him, his dual personality. They are both alike in that they are split down the middle by traumatic events in their lives. I think she brings out the side of him that the bat has repressed. He battles her using wit and cunning. the physical part is the chemistry they have for one another. Its how I always viewed them. Batman does use brute force when necessary but he is a very intellectual person. I feel catwoman does pose a threat to batman, a challenge. in the nolan universe he can make catwoman a lot smarter, sophisticated and dangerous than just the mischeivious kitty bent on revenge that we saw in pfeiffer role (still love her). I would like to see more fighting as well but i really believe catwoman could contribute in the next movie.

I vote Charlize Theron. And you have to use the Character Catwoman pretty soon in the series. Currently Batman has no real love interest/woman - and a "cat and mouse" game between him & Selina Kyle would be perfect. Her character also makes the most sense in Nolan's world of super-realism also. All she is essentially is an extremely agile super thief - totally believable - more so than Bane in my opinion.

Theron is a great choice for Cat, I would rather see a villain that has yet to be done on film but with Rachel dead there is need for a love interest and who better then the cat. Also Lilly is a good choice in looks but Theron has already proven she has the skills to be Cat from her portrayal as Aeon Flux, and she looks more like kyle anyways.

@Assassin - what do you mean lack of physical action in Dark Knight? Remember the opening scene in the parking garage with the fake batmen and the dogs? What about the long-ass police car chase scene where Joker tries to kidnap Dent and blasts bazookas at the police cruisers? How about how the Batmobile detonates and Batman converts it into a motorcycle and chases the Semi through the streets? Or the amazing scene in the building where Batman uses the visual SONAR to fight bad guys and Joker on 5 different floors of the building?

Were we watching the same movie?!?!

Cage- Dark Knight was more along the psychological dichotomy between Joker and Bats. Yes it had action sequences, but there was no real big physical sequence between villain and hero, most of the action scenes were indirect traps to get the two together. For the third movie I want a direct brawl between Bats and a solid villain.

Pooch, show me a female superhero that isn't drawn large chested, or a guy thats not ripped to bits for that matter! If all actors were to conform to artists interpretations there wouldn't be a plastic surgeons office empty from now to rapture. All this role really requires is an athletic, sexy, good actress. Shaman, actually dogs have been an obstacle for Bats a couple of times in the comics. In A Death In The Family the only way he could get a rotweiler off of him was to snap its neck, and he felt bad about it! I would say its difficult for even a master ninja to prepare for something as random and mindless as a savage dog attacking...which is why Gothams scumbags use em.

Charlize Theron is a pretty solid choice, but I personally would go with Kate Beckinsale, since she has lots of experience with being in movies that require the types of flips and tricks that Catwoman so often does.

You guys have some really good picks. I also like Rachel Weisz as I think she would really surprise you. I know you can only think of her from the Mummy flicks but she is a really good actorist.

@ Tyler, right on brother, way to think outside the box. I definitely agree with some of these posts that if catwomen is used it should be a relatively unknown. I know she's not quite an unknown, but i think a better pick than the rest.

I still like Beckinsale, but after Whiteout I think she's out. And after seeing SNL, Fox bit the dust for me - keep her away from everything with any depth.

And man, tits (or "breast", as Superdog so eloquently put it =P) ain't got THAT much to do with it. Remember in the REAL (Nolan) world, there are plenty of small chested women.

If you've seen 2 Days in the Valley you know she Charlize can pull it off. God the way her skin was glistening in that movie - of course it's a long time ago. But she's still incredible in every. Perfect choice - props Rorshach. She's somewhat of an analogue to Pfeiffer in her younger years. She's purrrrfect lol...forgive me, I had to say it.

Gugino second place, for me.

Ror@ i dont think Height is an issue at all as long as the character is portrayed correctly...anyway if she's gonna be a sneaky theif (i say sneaky theif cus who knows which selina we will get) it would be more plausable for her not to be some supermodel height...she would need to be sleak and feminine to be catwomen :P

Ror- I understand that anyone with morals would have trouble dealing with rots. But for a feature film, it sucks and even more so if you have it twice. They worked so hard to make batman out to be a ninja master yet he gets manhandled by anything. All i'm saying is that i have a hard time taking Nolan's batman seriously and bringing in a wrestler or a crocodile would be pushing it. Burton's was way scarier which is the point of the whole character and pretty much the entire plot behind Nolan's first film. I just hope Nolan gets his game in gear for his last film.

A much as I liked Dark knight and BB, I'm looking foward to an eventual new take on Batman. There are so many things Nolan dosen't want to do, & most would'nt work in the real world style he created. I'd liked to see a more fantasy style Batman next, no rubber suit, some of the less believable villians. Perhaps a Superman Batman live action film. Not a Tim Burton style though, more like JLU,BTAS. Looking foward to Batman 3, but looking foward to something more cartoony after that.

whoa bropous, you need to realize that robin played a big part in the comic books and so did catwoman. batgirl, although i like her she needs to come in later after there is a robin. oh and i think theron woulden't make a bad catwoman.

First of all we have to remember that with the current set of batman movies the villains are genuinely psychotic. Theron would suck, you need someone who can play a messed up psycho, like helen bonham carter. She could totally play that part, she is getting a little older looking though, but she could pull it off i think.
