Simon Pegg Has A Message For STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Haters: "F*ck You"

Not anyone who didn't like the movie you understand, but specifically the hardcore Trekkies who voted J.J. Abrams' recent sequel as the worst Star Trek flick of all time! Read on for Pegg's comments in full..

At the Star Trek 2013 con's 'One Trek Mind Live' panel in Las Vegas earlier this month, fans in attendance voted Star Trek Into Darkness the worst Trek movie so far -- yes, worse than Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis, and The Final bloody Frontier. They also voted Galaxy Quest (a Trek homage/parody with absolutely no canonical ties to the franchise) higher..so perhaps it's best not to delve too deeply into their logic, or lack thereof. Anyway, this didn't sit too well with Simon Pegg, who plays Chief Engineer "Scotty" in the movie. He doesn't hold back in an interview with the Huffinton Post, and then likens the reaction to Into Darkness to fans of an indie band tiring of them when they get too popular.

"It's asinine, you know? It's ridiculous. And frustrating, as well, because a lot of hard work and love went into that movie, and all JJ wanted to do was make a film that people really enjoyed. So, to be subject to that level of sort of, like, crass f**king ire, I just say, 'F**k you'. [It's like] when you tire of an indie band that you love because they get a number one single.. Star Trek Into Darkness is the most successful Star Trek movie ever made. It is, in terms of what it took at the box office and how many people went to see it. More people saw that film than any iteration of Star Trek that existed before. That is probably slightly annoying to some Star Trek fans - which I totally understand."

Do you agree that STID was the worst so far? Or is Pegg spot on with his reaction? Sound off below.

Into Darkness was the worse? Easily the best one I've ever seen! Far far better than the original film, and for me it's just ahead of Wrath of Khan, with the Star Trek reboot in third. It's been very successful at the box office and with critics/audiences.

Glad Pegg has said something about it, Trekkies should be happy that Star Trek is actually popular and doing well! I don't like Iron Man 3 that much, but seeing that much success for Marvel Studios is great as a fan. Really don't see any logic in that decision, some of the older movies were awful awful

I CLAIM THIS ARTICLE IN THE NAME OF S.H.I.E.L.D.!
Hi Ror! XD

sirbonesalot - 8/22/2013, 3:07 AM

HavocPrime - 8/22/2013, 3:08 AM
Trekies are very hard to please, I thought the film was great, even though it was Wrath of Khan 2.0
CaptainTumeria - 8/22/2013, 3:08 AM
That's just one more reason why I like Simon Pegg. Also, it was an awesome movie and Pegg is an awesome Scottie!
GUNSMITH - 8/22/2013, 3:09 AM
I LOVED THE MOVIE,HATERS TOTALLY SUCK...TREKKIE PURISTS. ALTERNATE UNIVERSE STAR TREK, IF YOU WANT "YOUR" STAR TREK WATCH YOUR DVD'S AND RERUNS.
MightyZeus - 8/22/2013, 3:10 AM
Into Darkness was awesome. It was a really good film. The only people that hate it are the true hardcore Star Trek fans of the originals.
Cagefighterkip - 8/22/2013, 3:13 AM
Geez, I disliked the movie, but I'll respect people who enjoyed it because I respect people who have different opinions than I do.

Man, here Simon Pegg just comes off like a dick. "[frick] you" to the haters? Really? What a douche.
Cagefighterkip - 8/22/2013, 3:16 AM
For the record, I do agree STID is the worst Trek film though. Pegg is just sour grapes.
Alex909 - 8/22/2013, 3:16 AM
Loved the movie but Pegg's reaction was a bit strong here.
jimoakley666 - 8/22/2013, 3:18 AM
Into Darkness and it's predecessor were better than any other piece of garbage with the Star Trek logo on it. Star Trek has always been a joke and it's morons like these dumb [frick]ing nerds that continue that trend.
DoctorWeird - 8/22/2013, 3:18 AM
So people didnt like it - Maybe...get over it?

Alot of love and hard work was put into the movie? So?
Does that mean Shatner or Patrick Stewart should come out and say 'F*ck you' to the haters that thought one of their films was the worst?

His Scottish accent was sh*t as well

Worst.Scotty.Ever
Minato - 8/22/2013, 3:18 AM
Seriously Cagefighterkip
Hes a douche cause he said F**k his haters? What do you want him to say? I have the same reply for anyone who dislikes me for no good reason. Im glad he came out and said it cause a lot of people would’ve bit their tongue in public and said it behind closed doors.
Cagefighterkip - 8/22/2013, 3:20 AM
He says JJ tried making the best film possible, but what were the filmmakers behind the more disliked Trek films doing? Trek fans spoke and Simon Pegg got butt-hurt, simple as that.
Cagefighterkip - 8/22/2013, 3:21 AM
@DoctorWeird
NAILED IT
MatTaylorX - 8/22/2013, 3:21 AM
Being honest and saying it wasn't a very good film makes someone a '' hater'' now?

@2Challa
Pegg wasn't complaining about people who hated on HIM, but people who hated the movie. Say "[frick] you" to people who dislike you, not to people who have a different opinion about a movie than you do. geez.
Cagefighterkip - 8/22/2013, 3:23 AM
@MatTaylorX
According to Simon Pegg it does.
charlie2094 - 8/22/2013, 3:24 AM
@DoctorWeird

It's not that they didn't like it, it's that they voted it the worse Star Trek film ever, which is nonsensical considering many of the previous films. It's ok to dislike something, but voting the most successful one yet as the worst, makes no sense.

Considering a parody film was even rated higher, clearly just voted it worse for the sake of it. It's like calling Iron Man 3 the worst Marvel film ever. Sure, many were disappointed, but to label it the worst when we've had such gems as Elektra, Ghost Rider 1&2, Origins Wolverine and Fantastic Four, is a huge exaggeration.
Nubase - 8/22/2013, 3:24 AM
i saw the movie a few days ago and loved it, l liked the links with khan and the death scene near the end with kirk taking spocks place a la wrath of khan.

But trekkies are loyal passionate fans, just like loyal marvel fans and dc fans, we can really judge the the trekies because we are all a like.
Starkasm - 8/22/2013, 3:27 AM
Movie was awesome.
Haterz gon' h8.
Cumberbatch was intense.
Pending - 8/22/2013, 3:29 AM
It was alright, unoriginal and unnecessary but alright. Can't see why he's so bothered by it they ultimately had the last laugh making all that money.
DoctorWeird - 8/22/2013, 3:35 AM
@Charlie2094

Your comparison of IM3 would only be used in this sense against other IM films, not any marvel film. Thats like saying Star Trek was voted the worst Sci-fi film ever, but its not, we're only talking about the individual franchises here.

More people saw it, making it the most successful in terms of BO but also making more people available to vote it the worst Trek film. Its a simple case of numbers.

But like i say, he's mad because people voted it the worst, but that wouldnt warrant Shatner or Patrick coming out and saying the that stuff if people voted theirs the worst
MrNiklander - 8/22/2013, 3:38 AM
Let me put it this way INTO DARKNESS WAS AS AWESOME AS WRATH OF KHAN. Trekkies are like nymphomaniacs no matter how many times they get laid they cant get enough. Some Trekkies enjoyed the movie while others instead of being thankfull that STAR TREK came back from the dead because lets face it after First Contact movies went downhill.To the haters.To sum it up I enjoyed Into Darkness as much as of Wrath Of Khan so Trekkies
RocketRaccoon - 8/22/2013, 3:38 AM
The movie is awesome!
and to the haters...

RorMachine - 8/22/2013, 3:39 AM
Please read the article if you're going to comment..Pegg is specifically addressing the "fans" who voted STID the worst Trek movie of all time. That's not just having a problem with the movie, it's saying bleedin Generations was better than it! Look, opinions schminions..by any type of critical standards that's not true! I'd say [frick] Off is a pretty good response to that sort of bullshit.
devil - 8/22/2013, 3:43 AM
star terk 3 war with the klingons
Ocelot - 8/22/2013, 3:46 AM
Abrams resurrected the franchise from it's grave and has made Star Trek somewhat relevant again, it was in limbo before then and no one cared, though it will never ever reach the popularity or have the widespread appeal of Star Wars, Abrams did good.
SuperDude001 - 8/22/2013, 3:46 AM
I thought Into Darkness was pretty much the best Star Trek film except the first Abrams one. And I don't include the first because it didn't feel like a Trek film. In fairness though Trek doesn't have a good film history.
DoctorWeird - 8/22/2013, 3:47 AM
Sorry but if Star Treks fans vote it as the worst ever then its saying something. Maybe not that it was the worst, but even saying that it sure as hell could have been something more.

Star Trek always had its pratical effects and through each generation it had that cheesy way of doing things whilst keeping a straight face and now JJ is trying to make it a serious epic sci-fi franchise again. Simply put, with the new direction it's taking, i think they can quite rightly vote it as the worst if they want
Super12 - 8/22/2013, 3:53 AM
Screw those Trekkie fans, JJ Abrams was the best thing to happen to Star Trek since Patrick Stewart. He breathed life into a dead corpse of a franchise. Simon Pegg gets it and that's why he's the man, he doesn't care about being PC he'll defend his friend's works
CoulsonLives - 8/22/2013, 3:54 AM
The Gorn be like...

And then this happened...

And then this happened...

And I'm like...
Hexagram - 8/22/2013, 3:56 AM
What's a hater? :-D

Well put as always Simon! Beautiful movie for this generation! Wished they would have paralleled with a cliffhanger(Kirk dead 'til the 3rd), but still a good time.
CoulsonLives - 8/22/2013, 3:57 AM
True Story ;)
Hexagram - 8/22/2013, 3:59 AM
Heard Abrams was going to remake JAWS next.., I'm totally kidding.
