EVIL DEAD Director Fede Alvarez To Helm DANTE'S INFERNO Adaptation

Universal has set Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez to bring the Electronic Arts video game (which is itself based on the first part of Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem Divine Comedy) to the big screen in live action.

Deadline report that Fede Alvarez will direct a live action take on the Electronic Arts action adventure video game Dante's Inferno for Universal. The game is based on "Inferno", the first canticle of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, (why Universal don't simply adapt that and are going straight for the video game is anyone's guess..but there ya go) and follows the exploits of Dante (reimagined as a Templar knight) as he journeys through the nine circles of Hell to reclaim the soul of his beloved Beatrice from the hands of Lucifer. Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent)is on script duties, with Bruce McKenna (The Pacific) writing an earlier draft.

l'm surprised it has taken this long to do a movie of the divine comedy.

l played the game and its superb but the movie should not be hard to adapt to be honest, its quite straightforward but theres way it will be less then a r rated movie.

NOw, they adapt unsuccessful games?
Like, we can't do a good movie out of a good game BUT we find a mediocre game or shitty game to make a shitty movie, so no one will complain!

This WILL bomb.

I rather see a Dead Space Movie get John Carpenter he said he do it and he played the games so he knows the material.

This has huge potential.

The game plays just like God of War, but is still good nonetheless. The Evil Dead remake was AWESOME, I'll definitely watch this!

Will they use Bill Withers theme "Ain't no Sunshine" like the teaser tv spot long ago??? I remember seeing it like it was nothing!

I just watched the manga anime dantes inferno a couple of months ago on Mangas free downloadable app for xbox. I was impressed with the animation and how it changed constantly throughout the film. This could be a good movie. Ill wait for a trailer
TheBlackNerd - 9/17/2013, 2:15 PM
But can we PLEASE get the God of War film starring Michael Jai White please??!
JamesMan - 9/17/2013, 2:16 PM
Awesome but a little unnecessary when there was a great animated film based on the game. Oh well, Fede Alvarez did a fantastic job with Evil Dead so he seems right for the job.

YES!!!! Dreams DO come true!!!

Not sure why they're adapting the video game, but whatever. I'm game. Always like to see when movies of this kind turn out well.
TheBigBoss917 - 9/17/2013, 2:21 PM
wtf so we will see this before God of war
maninfinehat - 9/17/2013, 2:21 PM
But why not Evil Dead 2?

Hopefully it's not all dark and gritting, and it's all about rainbows and sunshine.

The game is cool…OK but they should re-envision/re-invent L'Inferno from1911! That movie is amazing for its time!
mumbz - 9/17/2013, 2:32 PM
Not goin to happen
sameoldthing - 9/17/2013, 2:37 PM
The actual story of Dante's Inferno would be too long & boring.
Basing it off video game will hopefully give viewers some cool graphic violence.
l0rdleg0las - 9/17/2013, 2:37 PM
I would rather see a Paradise Lost adaptation
driver - 9/17/2013, 2:43 PM
@beto did you actually play the game? Divine Comedy has more story, not the game. Game is lame ass ripoff of God of War. But less entertaining. And graphics, gameplay is not good. I would rather see God of War or Assassins Creed adaptations IF it will happen and will not stuck in development hell.
HeadPool420 - 9/17/2013, 3:25 PM
Love the original story! The anime was fun as was the game! Hopefully the movie will be awesome and creepy!!!!

I loved this game! The visuals could've been a little better (if they were on par with GOW then the game would've been amazing!) but the story and the levels were creepy and disgusting (at times) and the demons were pretty original! Fun game! Mr Alvarez has proven himself, in my opinion, as being a very adept director by the re-imagining of Evil Dead. Although I'd much rather he make a sequel to that, I'm damned excited about this! Hopefully it won't be like so many others and be stuck in development hell.

"why Universal don't simply adapt that and are going straight for the video game is anyone's guess.."

Cuts development costs to work off of an established property as well as sells the hook "Based on the best-selling video game". While the book is an established property, it does not come with character designs, etc.

the anime version is on Netflix...got a chance to watch it recently and even as a non-anime fan, thought it was really well done.
Melkaticox - 9/17/2013, 5:04 PM
For the love of...JUST MAKE A ZELDA MOVIE ALREADY, HOLLYWOOD!
What's the point of a Dante's Inferno movie, anyways? And I thought a God of War movie was a bad idea...
HULK2099 - 9/17/2013, 6:18 PM
I've been waiting for this movie, turn the divine comedy into a video game and a action movie spawns from it. I approve.
CharlesLord - 9/17/2013, 9:33 PM
this sounds like Fede's type of movie after seeing Evil Dead. I assume theyre gonna crank out ED2 after this, seeing that theyre gonna make it but nothings off the ground yet
Shadowelfz - 9/17/2013, 10:27 PM
Well the game was fun... kinda shitty but fun. I can see the potential in making this into a movie but Holywood treats their video game property movies like shit so all we can do his hope for the best.

Awesome cant wait for it.Dante's Inferno was a great adaptation of the Divine Comedy now if we can get a good cast we are in business.
MightyZeus - 9/18/2013, 4:09 AM
A Deadspace film would be good but sadly movies based on videogames dont turn out good.
knocturnalzen10 - 9/18/2013, 5:56 AM
could be interesting ..............
preacher - 9/18/2013, 10:34 AM
@Enphlueince-the anime is based on the game which is, in turn, based on the epic poem.
corey817 - 9/18/2013, 3:11 PM
Hope they get it right that game was the business

@CCR Evil Dead remake was not good at all!
CCR - 9/18/2013, 5:14 PM
