GOTHAM Adds Drew Powell As Villain 'Butch Gilzean'

Whozean? Don't expect a Riddler or a Black Mask - like his boss Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett-Smith), it seems this Gotham bad guy will be a new character created just for the Fox tv show. Read on for more details.

Deadline report that Drew Powell (Ponderosa, Malcolm In The Middle) has been cast in a "guest starring/recurring role" in Fox‘s Batman prequel series, Gotham. Apparently he'll be playing Butch Gilzean - a new character created for the show, and not an established DC Comics villain. According to the site Gilzean is "the deceptively clever and ambitious second-in-command to sadistic gangster boss Fish Mooney". It's always possible this guy will be an amalgamation of other lesser known characters, or have some of their attributes. Thoughts?

Pasto - 3/3/2014, 4:25 PM
Sounds like a porn star to me.
Praetorian - 3/3/2014, 4:30 PM
Fish do not have tadpoles, that is frogs. I hope they cast Joe Chill
CommanderShepard - 3/3/2014, 4:33 PM
Fish and Butch...this city deserves a better class of criminal!

And better names.

Knock it off with the [frick]ing hashtags.

kinda interested to see how the show turns out... could be really good or it could be horrible
Pasto - 3/3/2014, 5:00 PM
He's a pornstar for crying out loud.
Interestein - 3/3/2014, 5:02 PM
As soon as the director was named, I knew this show was going to blow, pass.
MrCBM56 - 3/3/2014, 5:07 PM
Only Pasto would know. Only Pasto.

I'll wait and see before any harsh judgment is cast upon this upcoming series
soforizo - 3/3/2014, 5:12 PM
Good addition. I know him from The Mentalist, solid actor.
ComicsBornAndBred - 3/3/2014, 5:13 PM
For all we know this show could take place in the 80s instead of being a contemporary modern piece. Butch and Fiah sound very retro when it comes to gangster names. Or, this show could just be a little hammy when it comes to te names of gangsters. Batman gangster names in the comics are a little hammy and a bit much at times.

It helps when your TV viewing expands much more beyond DisneyXD and a handful of shows.
Facade - 3/3/2014, 5:17 PM
I'd feel better about it if their names were switched.
batz11 - 3/3/2014, 5:19 PM
Why do these shows need to create characters when there's probably hundreds of options to choose from, even combine characters if needed? Hate that...Probably to fulfill the ego of the writers...
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/3/2014, 5:22 PM
Good. Stay away from the Batman villains. It's too soon for them to come into the picture
McGee - 3/3/2014, 5:22 PM
Part of me wants to see villains we know were there before Batman. Carmine Falcone, Carl Grisom, those old mobsters from Mask of the Phantasm whose names I can't remember and am too lazy to look up. Let's watch them rise up.
soforizo - 3/3/2014, 5:23 PM
I love the character descriptions of this show, seems like the kinda of place that would round up quite well if Robert Knepper was added to the cast. It would drive the hardcores insane, but Arrow misused his talents and he would fit here perfectly.
McGee - 3/3/2014, 5:25 PM
Ooooohhhh! Soforizo put McNy in his place.
soforizo - 3/3/2014, 5:31 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939
I agree, for the most part this show needs to stay away from most Batman villains for it to be somewhat acceptable. I'm still gonna feel distracted by the concept, but it bringing too many known characters would likely be detrimental.

@McGee
He threw too much of a softball, I couldn't resist taking a swing at it.
soforizo - 3/3/2014, 5:32 PM
@McGee

Mask of the Phantasm seems like ages ago, but I think you're heading down the right direction there.
aRandomSinisterClone - 3/3/2014, 5:36 PM
can u please start uploading pics of people u write about / copy and paste about. bigger then a freaking thumbnail.
Tufasrox - 3/3/2014, 5:39 PM
Let's not get too far away now folks. Lots of good material to work from.
McGee - 3/3/2014, 5:40 PM
My dick heads down the right directi--CHUCKIE SOUL!!! THAT WAS THE NAME OF ONE OF THEM!

Also, we could see other DC characters like Morgan Edge, Bruno Manheim, Maxwell Lord. We could see a young Dan Turpin on the Gotham police force.
McGee - 3/3/2014, 5:43 PM
Slam Bradley would be nice to see working along side Gordon.
dnno1 - 3/3/2014, 5:43 PM
A unique character created just for the show. The should make him the greatest villain the Batman never faced since he was too young to be Batman.
Dandy - 3/3/2014, 5:45 PM
No one strikes fear into the heart of Gotham like Fish Mooney.
SnapperCarr - 3/3/2014, 5:49 PM
Why create villains for the show?

Why not bring in Joe Chill or Carmine Falcone or Lew Moxon or Tony Zucco or the other mobsters that already exist?
McGee - 3/3/2014, 5:50 PM
You know to fear someone when their nick name stems from the odor of her baby hole...

And is married to Will Smith.
hench - 3/3/2014, 5:54 PM
@sid, actually he's the illegitimate son of Mark Hamill and Aaron Paul.
pesmerga44 - 3/3/2014, 6:12 PM
Seriously Jada Plinkett Smith is playing a mob boss named Fish Mooney okay who is seriously excited about a character named Fish Mooney sounds like a mob boss from back in the Silver Age. Kinda like Babyface from Batman Brave and the Bold

or Babyface's girlfriend Mrs. Manface

Gotta watch out for Fish Mooney head of the dreaded fish head gang

Kinda reminds me of a DC version of Agents of Shield. I don't think these shows really work(comic book shows), if ur just pluking out the plain people and telling us about there lives. Comic books are for the villians and heroes. Seems to me, Gordon is just a detective and his intrest comes from his realationship with Bats, and his dealings with Gotham villians. Otherwise, its just one of a 1000 crime shows.
MercwithMouth - 3/3/2014, 6:50 PM
There is nothing exciting about any news from this show. Don't mind the created characters(would be a double standard as I love AoS), but Jada Pinkett-Smith made my interest dive-bomb. She is simply a terrible actress, and has never had any experience with a true lead role, or a villain role. And this casting doesn't excite me at all. Show might surprise me, but expectations are VERY low. And being on Fox just makes things worse.
MercwithMouth - 3/3/2014, 6:52 PM
Sorry, forgot about Hawthorne, but who hasn't...
Pedrito - 3/3/2014, 7:02 PM
Probably a good idea to introduce new characters and save known villains for later.
It sounds like the Agents of SHIELD game plan, though.
Interesting..
GetsugaTensho22 - 3/3/2014, 7:06 PM
People complaining about the lack of Batman are stupid.
Rea Gotham Central, ya twats!
sure, Batman is an adult vigilante, but he rarely appears in it. This show can and WILL capture that awesomeness.
Optimus83 - 3/3/2014, 7:21 PM
Carmine Falcone. ...When???

@Merc
You got some big balls to criticize one show's character for bad acting (who we haven't seen mind you), and yet profess your love for AOS in the same breath.
soforizo - 3/3/2014, 8:10 PM
I like what some of you guys have said. If this show is made in a type of neo-noir take, a little Sin City-ish, with some modern tech and gangs similar to that of old, this would excite me.
