First A Nightmare On Elm St Review

First A Nightmare On Elm St Review

AICN have a first VERY spoilerific review of the movie so read at your own risk..although in fairness, how many things do you really think can happen in a Freddy movie? He kills teenagers..there you go!

Review Opinion

Here's the review.. remember, spoiler city!

The movie starts off at a diner with a boy at a table trying to stay awake while talking to his girlfriend about his nightmares (The girl is essentially Tina from the OG Nightmare). He falls asleep and Freddy comes in and forces him to slice his on throat with a steak knife in of her.

At this point I thought the movie had potential.

Next is the funeral where the Tina character (they changed her name to I don’t remember what) realizes from an old picture she sees of her boyfriend that she knew him as a child. She doesn’t remember knowing him before high school so she decides to investigate and then dies next to another boyfriend she has after sex.

The exact same way she dies in the original. Then he runs away to find Nancy to tell her about how she died, then gets arrested and is killed in his cell. This is where it gets dull.

Turns out Nancy and a handful of other kids there all went to the same pre-school and their parents thought they might have been molested by the gardener who lived in the preschool basement: Fred Krueger. When they talk to their kids about it they’re told about a secret cave Freddy takes them to.

On the word of their kids (who are 4 and 5 years old at the time) they hunt Freddy down and throw a lit can of Gas at him and kill him. Now Freddy is after all the kids who went to the Pre-School.

By this time there are only 2 kids still alive who had accused Freddy of touching them. Nancy and the Johnny Depp character. They travel to the old abandoned preschool break into Freddy’s old room in the basement. And the big reveal at the end of the movie? You’re going to have to watch the movie to find out.............

Just kidding save your money. Turns out he really did molest them... and he’s seeking revenge on all the kids that ratted him out. Nancy falls asleep and grabs him when she is woken up and brings him out of her dreams, then proceeds to beat him with a baseball bat and accidently sets him on fire again. Freddy’s dead and the Johnny Dep character survives with major scars on his chest. At this point everyone in the theater is glad its over... its not.

Then presumably weeks later Nancy with her arm in a sling from her battle is talking to her mom when out of nowhere Freddy grabs her mother through a Mirror and slices her head off. Roll Credits.

Nothing here worth seeing. They took a good movie and destroyed it. Then made Freddy’s burned face realistic and un scary at the same time. On top of that there was no cameo by Robert England anywhere to be found. One or two decent death scenes outside of that not worth watching. It almost seems like a made for cable movie.

The fun Freddy we remember who makes jokes at the expense of his victims is there but only at the last 10 minutes of the movie and by then it was too late. I was really hoping this movie was going to be good. I bet they are going try to make it PG-13 because there wasn’t that much gore or blood, no nudity, and I heard the work “[frick]” only once... so prepare yourself.

Call me the Anodizer.

Ok Anodizer. Ah well. No skin off my nose, I never thought it would be up to much. But if your a fan remember its just this dude's opinion..and for all you know he liked GI Joe!

Here's the new poster too.

It was shite. I have never seen a good horror remake yet..but then again, Im not a massive fan of the original's anyway! Only the original Halloween. And The Omen was great...remake wasn't TOO bad actually..

SHHH - 2/23/2010, 6:23 PM
The Collector is a remake not bad....

@Grif- one of the best scenes ever to be filmed.

I didn't have my expectation level set too high, but judging by the plot alone...complete and total sh!t. Yet another legend brought down by lackluster film-making.

Never had high hopes for this movie. To big of a fan of the original to even give it a chance. I'm also a huge fan of the Friday the 13th movie's and I thought the remake wasn't too bad. When I saw it in theaters I was tripping my ass off..that helped LOL.

I knew from the trailer that this wouldn't be all that great. But I really like the new reason Freddy goes after kids.

He was already kinda crazy for molesting kids, and then wants to kill them for ratting him out.

I think the movie has potential. I didn't read the review, just glanced at areas and realized it might not be too positive. @ marvelfreshman, nice pics, the one look like a total wannabe carrie shot, and the yawning blonde looks really hot. Shes yawning right? lol

@Ozy ...Actually that was ok too! Much better than I expected. Some genuine disturbing scenes and good performances.

I wasn't expecting too much from this movie anyway. I'm still gonna see it regardless.

@Ror

The 1982 remake of The Thing wasn't too bad either
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/23/2010, 8:14 PM
Oh Yeah! That was a great movie, I just always forget it was a remake. But in fairness, The Thing From Another World(isn't that what it was called?) had very little in common with Carpenters movie aside from the basic premise.

bigdogg263 - 2/23/2010, 8:21 PM
just go see it take it for what it is... a movie just another movie. forget during the 80's this franchise was the best thing next to slice bread. jackie will put his on twist on a great franchise we all love and know.
pay for the early movie instead of the 8p movie and maybe it will be better for you. either way you will but the drink and all the snacks and will walk out feeling something

@Ror

Very true. Perhaps that's why i like the 1982 version so much more.

And yes, The original was called "The Thing from Another World".

The Collector isn't a remake of the Stamp movie, is it? They just have the same name...

I really liked the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers from Philip Kaufman (1978) the original was from the 50's I guess.
I'll still watch it too, it can't be worst than Nightmare 5 and I'm not a fan lol.

contrast

@SHHH--but, wait, I'm mildly confused...what is the plot of the one they released recently (I mean, minus spoilers)? Because, I know the 1965 one was based on a novel, and isn't what you'd call a horror movie...I mean, in the traditional sense, at least (sort of like "Psycho") as I recall.

I'm still going to check, and my own opinion on it.

@contrast: it's a remake a lil differnet..the Remake is a horror movie..have u seen it? U know they changed somethings..Go watch the new one..
contrast
contrast - 2/24/2010, 12:55 AM
I haven't seen it, but I plan on eventually getting around to it...I will argue (mostly ineffectively, because I haven't seen the new one)that unless the story involves a guy who suddenly gets a lot of money, builds a house in which he hides the girl he is in love with, and waits for her to love him, the name, and the fact that it takes place in a house are coincidences...

hahah, unrealistic says the guy with an avatar of an unkillable mutant mercenary that regularly breaks the fourth wall and speaks to the people reading his comic.

Wow... it's that bad huh? I guess i'll like it! ;)

Slasher films are slasher films, period. They are meant to have bad performances, tits and gore. So, all in all, if they cover these bases, it fits. I'll enjoy it for what it is. I for one LOVED the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The Friday the 13th remake was decent but not as good as my own favorites; #7 & Jason X.

LEEE- You are totally right! Jason VS. Freddy was AWESOME and should have followed it with ASH!!! I just hope they make the movie before Bruce gets too old. Or... they could call it "Old Man Bruce" and his new threat could be these two slashers which he'll have to go Eastwood on their asses :))

Wyatt-really? comicbook movies are ok but its the spooky ones that are unrealistc?? And some of them are damn realistic.. more so than mutants saving humans, or big green men
