POLL: What Is The Best Scene In CBM History?

POLL: What Is The Best Scene In CBM History? POLL: What Is The Best Scene In CBM History?

You guys voted Peter Parker's "Emo Dance" In Spider-Man 3 the worst scene in CBM history. Now here are 10 of the best for you to vote on..

Once again, obviously this is all subjective. I tried to give you a good mix of what is generally considered the best, some ideas from the comments section of the last article. Some I personally feel deserve a spot. Some of you might be surprised at a few of the scenes, and perhaps at the lack of action. But the poll isn't "Best CBM Action Scene", it's best scene period. I take that to mean a wide variety of things. Obviously there is action there, but some are scenes or moments that I think stand out and stick in the mind long after you have seen the movie or best capture the overall essence of the genre. I have also tried to keep from using the same movie or character too much, but sometimes that is unavoidable. Same as last time, some vids are high quality, some low, some you will have to click on the image to see. Anyway, here are the 10 scenes. Vote away!

1) Nightcrawler Whitehouse Attack In X-Men 2

This one was a no brainer. Everyone love this scene I think. I'm really not sure it has been bettered in terms of visual excellence and intensity in any CBM yet. The teleporting punches ,the slow mo bodies flying through the air, the music. All combine to great effect.

2) The Joker Hangs Out Of The Police Car In The Dark Knight

This is by far one of the most iconic and in many ways almost creepy image in ANY movie for me. As The Joker makes his escape from his cell he sticks his head out of the car and soaks in the palpable chaos he has caused in Gotham. The natural audio drops a few notches and we get proper blast of that strange hum that pervades the movie. It's only a few seconds long but It had to make the list.

3) Dr Manhattan's Origin In Watchmen

In a movie full of memorable scenes, this one really stands out to me. We see the entire genesis of the being known as Dr Manhattan, jumping from present to future to past and not always in that order. Actor Billy Crudup delivers the expertly written narration to the haunting sound of Philip Glass' Prophecies. It's a little mini epic of it's own inside a bigger movie. Anyone who likes to think Zack Snyder is all style over substance should really watch this and shut their yaps.

4) Argentina Bar Scene In X-Men: First Class

A newer one, but I had to put it on here. As soon as the scene was over it shot to the top of my favorites. Eric Lensherr goes to a bar in Argentina looking for his "creator". The mood is foreboding as soon as he enters since we have already seen what he likes to do to his enemies(metal fillings). He toys with the two Nazis he finds there for a short while before unleashing his vengeance. It's tense, brutal and all kinds of awesome.

5)Train Scrap In Spider-Man 2

One of the best scenes from one of the best CBMs. This really needs no introduction. I remember watching it for the first time and my jaw was on the floor start to finish. It is also just the right length. It goes on long enough to satisfy but doesn't try to hammer us into submission either(*cough, Michael Bay, Ahem*).

6) "A Father's Mercy" In Hulk

That's right, there's a scene from Ang Lee's Hulk on here, try not to have an aneurysm! The movie had it's problems, but this scenes imo is one of the most moving we have seen in a CBM. As Bruce is about to be forcibly transformed in The Hulk, his father relates the story of the horrors he witnessed as a child to Betty. You may not appreciate the movie as a whole, but you cant deny the power of this scene.

7) Superman's Flyby In Superman The Movie

I had several scenes from a few of the Superman movies in mind but ultimately decided on this last scene from the first Superman. It's just that iconic moment one that sticks in everyone's mind I think. That last image of Superman with the Earth beneath him, ever so briefly breaking the fourth wall with a little smile to the audience. Unfortunately any vids showing the actual scene are unembedabble(I think I just made that word up) so you have to make do with a mashup of the scene and the one homaging it in Superman Returns. You're welcome:)

8) "The Avenger Initiative" In Iron Man

Nothing spectacular about the actual after credit scene from Iron Man in itself, but what it represents? The first lead in and indeed first utterance of the word; Avengers. For comic book fans this has to make the cut.

9) Hulk VS Abomination In The Incredible Hulk

If Ang Lee's Hulk handled the emotion better than Louis Letterier's THI, we know which one brought the action. And in a Hulk movie, that's kinda important. This 10 minute long slobberknocker between Hulk and Abomination is basically just two cartoons kicking seven shades out of each other to music. And it's glorious!

10) Opening Credits From Watchmen

I know, we already had one from Watchmen. But I just couldn't leave either one out. This may not just be the best credit sequence in CBM history, but imo a contender for the best in film period. Zack Snyder takes us on a journey through time in an alternate America where the costumed hero is the norm to the strains of Bob Dylan. Amazing.

There you have it. Now I'm sure I have over looked a few great scenes, they can't all be in there. I tried to cover as wide a range as possible. Thanks to Josh for his suggestions when I hit a block! I used two of em:)

I voted for the Avengers Initiative, but I loved the scenes for First Class, TIH, SM2, and of course TDK.

I have to go with Hulk vs. Abomination because htat is one of the greatest movie fights ever. I really liked Magneto's bar scene tho I thought that was one of the most enjoyable scenes I have seen in a while.

the best part of hulk vs abomination was the HULK SMASH, i love when he says that and then proceeds to beat the shit out of him

BEST-

Honestly, it's a tie between Joker's interrogation scene in Dark Knight, and Spidey attempting to stop the train in Spiderman 2.
Avenger Initiative is the greatest after credits scene of all time.

I went with the bar scene in X-Men: First Class however that scene from the first Hulk is amazing.

I say opening credits to WATCHMEN but ONLY cuz the TDK BATMAN/JOKER Interrogation or final fight wasn't listed. ;D

Sorry, it was close but I went with the scene from the movie which stands out to me most. You don't get very many of these odd little shots in CBMs, I think it's brilliant.

I would have to say X-Men first class bar scene, but come on where's the the dark knight interrogation scene

Out of these scenes I have to go with Magneto's scene in First Class, although the origin to Dr. Manhattan is right there too. Neither would be my favourite of all time, that may have to go to the scene where the Joker meets Two-Face in the hospital or the interrogation scene in The Dark Knight...I'd have to think about it, picking the best scene is more difficult than picking the worst.

@WellDrawn: no, THIS is the best after-credits scene ever:
WellDrawn
WellDrawn - 7/1/2011, 3:36 PM
@RorMachine - Joker sticking his head out the window is hardly a scene - it's a moment. Just like Joker's pencil trick is a moment, not a scene.
Interrogation should've made the list.

@runDTC - if Ferris Bueller were announcing an epic team-up of all 80's teen movie characters I'd agree with you. It's amusing and original, not monumentally awesometastic.
EVERYONE jizzed their pants when Avengers was unexpectedly announced. NOONE jizzed their pants when Ferris Bueller said to go away.
RunDTC
RunDTC - 7/1/2011, 3:37 PM
you could also make a case for this as best action scene:

jaysin420 - 7/1/2011, 3:39 PM
Cool poll but I think it's impossible comparing great action scenes like Nightcrawler and the Spiderman train fight with overall great scenes like the Superman fly by or Watchmen credits. (I didn't even like Watchmen too much but those opening credits were amazing).

And how about the first time we see Iron Man in his armor?
TheFlyingGarcia
TheFlyingGarcia - 7/1/2011, 3:40 PM
@Ror@ good choices. I also think one of the best scenes wus venoms transformation in spiderman 3 and also first appearance in live media

Welldrawn, yeah you're right. If only I had said something like this in the opening paragraph..

"but some are scenes or moments that I think stand out and stick in the mind long after you have seen the movie or best capture the overall essence of the genre."

What Is The Best Scene Or Moment In CBM History might have been a bit of a mouthful, people get what I mean.

best chase scene ever:

@WellDrawn: true. very good point. I just love it when movies break the 4th wall (Ferris Bueller, Fight Club). maybe we'll get to see it in the Deadpool movie if they EVER FREAKIN MAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spider-Man 2 train fight has my vote! When i first saw it in the theater I had goosebumps and thought, "This is what a comicbook movie is all about!".And when the people in the train tried to protect a fallen Spidey and stood between him and Doc Ock...just plain cool!
Superman75

Why does everyone keep talking about TDK scenes. Thor was a better film. TDK is so overated.

None of these, either the interrogation scene or the ending of TDK.
