Joel Schumacher Would Have Had Nicolas Cage Play Scarecrow In Batman Triumphant

Ah, it could have all been so different. Apparently WB were so confident in what they saw in the early stages of Joel Schumacher's work on Batman And Robin that they had already thought about getting another movie started after it called Batman Triumphant. Word is it would have featured Batman and Robin going up against the Scarecrow, and featured a cameo from the still under contract Jack Nicholson as Batman suffered from fear toxin induced hallucinations of The Joker. Thankfully we were all spared that but speaking to The Playlist Schumacher reveals who he would have had play Scarecrow and also speaks about the pretty much unanimously despised Batman And Robin..

“I was supposed to do a fifth one, I was talking to Nic Cage about playing the Scarecrow. I had begged the studio for [the Frank Miller comic] ‘The Dark Knight [Returns],’ but they wanted a family friendly, toyetic thing.”

“And I gave up a lot of money, but, no regrets. I have awards for selling more Batman toys than anyone in the world.” In regards to “Batman and Robin,” he was convinced he made “the wrong choice” but says, “I did my job. It was more family friendly and it sold a lot of toys, and it supported the Warner Bros. stores. But I did disappoint a lot of fans.”

Yes it did Joel, because it was a load of shit. Could you imagine if it had of been an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns he had got his hands on? But to play Devil's advocate maybe he was told to up the high camp and cheese factor by the studio. After all Batman Forever was pretty bad but it had it's moments. Might Schumacher have made a good stab at Batman if he had been left to his own devices? I don't know, but I must say I am glad he didn't get another chance to try. How about Nic Cage, could you have seen him menace Batman in a sack hood?
