Of all the villains being reintroduced within DC – THE NEW 52, none have been anticipated more than this one. He has not appeared inside a DC comic since early 2009 — DARKSEID!

Superstar artist and DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee brings his razor sharp design skills to the greatest villain in the DC pantheon. Originally conceived and designed by Jack Kirby, the King of Comics himself, Darkseid’s redesign has the Kirby motif all over him. Jim has taken what made Darkseid a fearsome foe from his original incarnation and provided the big bad with a 21st century design flair for even more malevolence.




As awesome as this pic is, he really doesn't look very different from the previous incarnation of the character. Not that that's a bad thing. See Darkseid cause all sorts of trouble for Superman, Batman and co in Justice League #4 on sale December 21st.

Spiderneil, nope. Superman has invulnerable skin but not invulnerable ear drums?? Any way Batman finds to defeat Superman besides Kryptonite is cheap and only happens because the writers dumb down Superman's durability.

daredevil aside superman has the most sensitive ears on the planet right? therefore hyper sonic should cause major damage to supes inner ear, right?

okay if superman is uneffected by hyper sonics why is he effected count vertigo's sound waves?

Please do intruder, because this design is officially the thing I like least about this Reboot....I'm not one to bitch or Troll but this could use a nice fanboy rant. Way too much going on...seen better...

I like the omega-ish shapes, but the overall feel is Apocalypse+Terrax+Darkseid's head. (Which is basically all you need. Darkseid has the most recognizable villain face after the Joker.) But why is his armor all cracked?

@Intruder i'm putting this ALL on Lee. Did you see his GL redesign? With them knee high wird Supergirl boots? Lee is stuck in the 90s...

@Superguy yeah, That design has nothing to do with the Omega armour Darkseid design you presented.

A bad design is a bad design... Get out of the 90s Lee!

He still looks like Darkseid but that is the least of my concerns. He totally looks like a wimp now. Totally. Right?

It's new and I won't accept anything new, unless it benefits my argument at the time.

Wow, that is a shitty design. I'm sorry, but that is just not good. Who is the art director over at DC? I have yet to like ANY of Jim Lee's redesigns for the DCn52.

I hate those shoulder pads. Too many different shapes colliding with each other. Did Jim Lee ever go to art school?? Or at least take any art classes while he was in school? There's no harmony in this!

And again with the high boots with holes in the knee caps. So, GL, Supergirl AND Darkseid will just happen to have a similar style of boots and they live in the same comic book universe with their home planets being galaxies away from one another. Riiiight . . . That's not unrealistic at all.

Meh I dont love it and I prefer the old design alot but I can live with it.

how come darkseid didnt get a collar like the rest of the DCU. is it cause he is a evil alien. I like the reboot so far but the collars need to go they are distracting. and its not the 90s anymore no more neck chokers for WW.

I like it. He definitely still has his Kirby esque flair, but THAT would terrify me coming out of a Boom Tube. That said the second pic The Messenger07 put up is awesome!!!

Batman can beat Superman. It's been proven numerous times.

Getting back on topic, Darkseid's new design isn't terrible, but it could've been simplified. The cracks in the armor isn't needed. Nor is the large shoulder pads. Someone else said that it looks kind of generic, which I agree with. There are several things I can think of that can make it look better. I would take some elements of the pic someone posted, the one with the loincloth, and apply it here. I'm sure this costume will be drawn in different ways based on the artist. With some more refinement, this can work.

Meh this guy can't redesign or modernise for anything. I love they way he draws but his design sense is off not that I'm any better but it looks like Jim Lee doesnt think about who or what the character is when he designs them.

Darkseid just needed pants that was it.

The belt reminds me of Galactus' skirt,somehow.Better than the Final Crisis rendition,though. The chest-armor looks like it was derived from Omega the Unknown. He's going to need a lot of Gold Bond powder to get outta them pants'though. Gotta be chafing quite a bit...lol
