Rob Liefeld Says He's Seen 8 Minutes Of Test Footage From The DEADPOOL Movie

Well he hints at it in a silly "I may or may not have" kinda way. Regardless, he offers up some interesting details and if he is to be believed, there is some footage out there..somewhere!..

Bleeding Cool have picked up on an interesting conversation between Rob Liefeld and Scott Lobdell at last week's Amazing Arizona Comic Con. Liefeld reckons he's seen some test footage from the Deadpool movie Fox are working on, and that it's eight minutes of R rated Merc With A Mouth style mayhem..

They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.

They may or may not have wanted to shoot eight minutes to see how it would play. And all I can tell you, it’s close. It’s closer that it’s even been to going, or going Naaah, that’s too scary a proposition to make a R Rated Deadpool movie.”

We know that Tim Miller has signed on to direct the movie, but since that we haven't really heard much about it. Ryan Reynolds is still in line to play the character but he hasn't officially signed on yet as far as we are aware. But if Liefeld is on the level thsi sounds very promising, and at least confirms that they are making progress. Hopefully this footage finds its way online at some point, I won't hold my breath though.

soberchimera - 1/13/2012, 9:48 AM
Dear FOX,

Make the Deadpool movie, use the script by Reese and Wernick, make it R-rated, make a shitload of money.

Sincerely,
The smart people of the world.

comicguy88 - 1/13/2012, 9:52 AM
I honestly can't think of a better person to play dead pool Ryan is a hilarious actor when movies let him be himself ...i can only hope he stays true to the dead pool spirit and breaks the 4th wall a bunch of times ..and they make it as gory as punisher warzone and as funny as van wilder
Supes17 - 1/13/2012, 9:56 AM
Its harder for an R-rated film to earn more money, but im sure they can pull it off
MasterApoc81 - 1/13/2012, 9:56 AM
ryan reynolds makes a great deadpool.... more of a role his acting and comedic talents fit
deadpoolstaco - 1/13/2012, 9:58 AM

I could care less at this point if Ryan Reynold plays Deadpool it would be nice. But i say get frickin Seann William Scott im pretty sure he would do just as well as Reynolds. Those two are interchangable in that role.I just finished reading Uncanny X-Force 1-19 and How do i love Deadpool let me count the ways (loads a banana clip into an carbon 15). Classic Dp All the way through
Sourpatch64 - 1/13/2012, 10:08 AM
Titanic was Rated-R....its not that hard to make a lot of money with R-Rated stuff. Just need to choose wisely
m0th3r - 1/13/2012, 10:12 AM
Redeem yourself FOX and do this right...R rating, lots of blood and swearing...We may forgive you for the Wolverine catastrophe...
SotNatt - 1/13/2012, 10:16 AM
I think I just vomited a little in my mouth, just now. I guess Rob Liefeld will do that to you.
sKeemAn - 1/13/2012, 10:22 AM
OMG, will be dope
Maybe with this R rating will convince Fox to do the same for Wolverine.

Oh and Happy Birthday to myself thx cbm fam
LtAnarchy - 1/13/2012, 10:28 AM
Titanic is rated PG-13...
AlcoholicA - 1/13/2012, 10:29 AM

@moth3r
Was First Class not a good enough apology?
headlopper - 1/13/2012, 10:50 AM
Sounds like a 'feeler leak' by the studio to gauge what kind of reaction they get- positive or negative- and maybe use the results to craft a course of action.

As for me, I'll make it real simple for you 'suits':

Make the freakin' movie.
Sanderman - 1/13/2012, 10:57 AM
Any idea who the villian would be?
sexfoodcomics - 1/13/2012, 10:58 AM
I'm sure it has the possibility of being a fun violent action movie like kick ass, but I will not take rob liefelds opinion on anything.
aRandomSinisterClone - 1/13/2012, 10:59 AM
Sounds like BS to try n get people interested.
Spidey91 - 1/13/2012, 10:59 AM
hey FOX! just make the f*cking movie already! >:|
joeker - 1/13/2012, 11:02 AM
Haha this film won't be R rated he sounds like a right [frick]tard
StrangerX - 1/13/2012, 11:17 AM
Just make it already
vtopa - 1/13/2012, 11:24 AM
First off, there is NO WAY to make a Deadpool movie anything but Rated-R. So, if they do this PG-13, I will NOT see it.

Second, for those of you wondering if Ryan Reynolds is IN the supposed 8 minutes, 99% likely he ain't. If I had to guess, the 8 minutes is another actor (or martial arts stunt man) doing a scene with lots of shooting and breaking the 4th wall stuff. They might have even done voice over since the mask totally covers the actor's face.

What's the test footage for? 1) To convince the scum-bag execs at Fox to green-light a $100 million R rated action flick based on a relatively little known comic anti-hero (little known to the masses that is), 2) To convince Ryan Reynolds that HE WANTS to do this movie. He seems to have cooled off on the idea of comicbook movies after Green Lantern didn't do so well, although he People's Choice award might help bring back around, 3) To see if a test audience will go for the flick.

IF and ONLY if they do it R-Rated with some VERY VERY nasty humor, then I think that Reynolds would be on board AND I think that the movie would actually work. Lethal Weapn was Rated R and it made buckets. So did films like 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cops, etc. This is essentially a bloody action comedy. Perfect for Ryan Reynolds.
vtopa - 1/13/2012, 11:26 AM
@OtakuPapi: Sean William Scott. Hadn't thought of him. He'd be awesome.
AlcoholicA - 1/13/2012, 11:28 AM
I think that if the Expendable 2 is a success it will help greenlight this movie.
grynningguy - 1/13/2012, 11:29 AM
Kick Ass is the perfect example of a successful, violent, vulgar, & above all R-RATED comic film!! DeadPool deserves an R rating imo.
I also think Fox should take into account, as far as stupid money goes, that there's an entire generation who grew up reading DeadPool who can & will gladly pay for an R rated DeadPool. I know I would!!
So come on Fox, be cool, do the right thing cause it's the only thing that brings comic movie success: Appease the fans.
Which I'll admit is no easy task, not everybody likes everything. Just Stay True.
SuspenseSmith - 1/13/2012, 11:35 AM
What do you mean you're afraid of an R Rated comic film?!

What about Watchmen.... 300.... Kick Ass... Super for cryi9ng out loud.

Or other R action films like Gladiator, Brave Heart, Die Hard, Expendables, Predator...

Deadpool will have the most lucrative demographics, just make it already.
DeadPoolLax - 1/13/2012, 11:39 AM
AHHHHHH!! come on!!! just make the gosh darn thing! FOX, do the right thing; make the movie, please the fans, and redeem yourselves by making a great X-Men movie... one that is so close to the comics that some of the dialogue is straight from the books. Give Deadpool the movie he deserves!
HelaGood - 1/13/2012, 11:44 AM
screw Rob Liefeld
soberchimera - 1/13/2012, 11:47 AM
@Sanderman I'm pretty sure Ajax is the main villain since this is supposed to be Deadpool's origin story. I haven't read the entire script so I'm not sure.
comicbookjerk - 1/13/2012, 11:47 AM
WHAT! Deadpool is an X-Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO ONE TOLD ME THIS!!!
comicbookjerk - 1/13/2012, 11:48 AM
I bet it gets the Marvel Knights logo cause thats usually what the R Rated films get
HeimdallUSA - 1/13/2012, 11:49 AM
Fox will screw it up like everything else. I will still see it though.
marvel72 - 1/13/2012, 11:55 AM
i wish i could believe this,i call bullshit.
AlcoholicA - 1/13/2012, 12:45 PM
@Marvel72

It actually sounds like standard studio procedure to do something like a short clip with a stunt-man/stand-in if they were still on the fence about a project. Now whether or not Rob is exaggerating who knows.... I just hope it gets leaked sometime soon!
Ripper - 1/13/2012, 1:00 PM
I feel LIEfeld took Dead Pool from a friend of mine, who called him Blood Shot back in the 90's when he was a pup! All he did was turn all Blood Shots white parts Black and we get deapool! All but the healing factor is blood Shot!! [frick] LIEfeld!! Can't draw feet or hands well anyway! All his work looks the same too!! I AM A HATER!!!!!!
Love DeadPool I mean BloodShot though!!
JDUKE25 - 1/13/2012, 1:04 PM
A deadpool movie would be alright, but I'm tired of hearing that it's dead then back on, not gonna happen, but then there's hope.
sarahsatire - 1/13/2012, 1:14 PM
Deadpool in costume = Yes!

Deadpool owning face with an R rating = Double Yes!

Ryan Reynolds not portraying Hal Jordan = MAKE THIS MOVIE NOW!
Bandrews1 - 1/13/2012, 1:21 PM
Sounds great if true, I just really hope Reynolds does the movie, because he was born to play Deadpool, and I honestly can't see anyone else doing it. I also hope Fox would lighten and give the film the R rating it deserves.
Ric - 1/13/2012, 1:29 PM
finally some news!
backup - 1/13/2012, 1:39 PM
Die Hard was R-rated and it is still making money. Enough to validate a 5th. Yep 5 movies from one R rated movie. Yeah live free was pg-13 but the first one is still regarded as the best. As for the first one the bad guy is going to be Patrick Stewart so it will be bad ass. Plus McClane could die. The title is A good day to Die hard. Apparently, it involves his son. So this just may be the crystal skull of die hard movies.

Sorry to go off on a tangent but there is no reason why a R-rated movie can't be profitable. Die Hard is not only R-rated and profitable bit it is one of the best action movies ever. As for Ryan Reynolds, this is what he does best. The change-up was hilarious and Waiting made him famous. Hollywood should look at what they did with Adam Sandler and how he lost popularity by softening up. Ryan Reynolds is best at being raunchy, don't try and change him.
StuckInPanels - 1/13/2012, 1:41 PM
I find this incredibly hard to believe since FOX owns the rights to the Deadpool movie and they would not allow any news as to whether or not its being made at this point. Also isn't Reynolds filming RIPD at the moment. My guess is that FOX will either debunk this soon or say Liefeld is trying to keep the character relevant with is upcoming death.
golden123 - 1/13/2012, 1:45 PM
Just because the film might be funny, R rated, feature guns, feature Katannas, and feature the act of blowing people's faces off doesn't mean it will be good. It needs a good story and compelling characters, or else you'll end up with another Punisher: War Zone. I'd rather a good PG 13 movie than a bad R rated one. It's just a difference of hom much sex, language, and gore you can use, and quite honestly, I don't think those things make or break a movie.
