UPDATE: Is Taylor Kitsch On Fox's Radar To Play DAREDEVIL?

Chalk this up as a rumor for now, but John Carter himself might just be a contender to take over from Ben Affleck in David Slade's rebooting of the blind crime fighter..

Haven't had a good Daredevil rumor in a while! In an article listing actors that came close to playing superheroes, Moviehole mention that Vid Diesel was at one point in the running to play Daredevil before opting out in favour of Pitch Black. Of course the role then went to Ben Affleck, but as we know director David Slade is set to reboot the franchise for Fox with a brand new Matt Murdock. Several actor's names popped up around the time this was announced but Slade himself dismissed them all, saying he hadn't even thought about casting yet. Well some time has passed, and he may be thinking about it now. Could John Carter's Taylor Kitsch be a possibility? Moviehole think he might be..

..And now, of course, David Slade is rebooting the franchise with everyone from Xavier Samuel (“A Few Best Men”) to Taylor Kitsch (“John Carter”) said to be in contention.

I have heard Samuel's name mentioned in connection before but Kitsch is definitely a new one. Now bare in mind this might well be an older rumor we just hadn't heard before - although round these parts that is most unlikely - or a new one with nothing behind it. But Clint over at Moviehole keeps his ear to the ground about these type of things, and with Kitsch's star about to rise substantially after - the by all accounts pretty great - John Carter this was well worth mentioning. Do you guys think Kitsch would make a good Daredevil? Sound off below. And be sure to check out the full article by clicking the link below, it's an interesting read.

UPDATE: Nailbiter asked David Slade on Twitter if there were any truth to this rumor and got the following response: "nope no truth at all". He may just be puling the wool over our eyes, but generally if there were any truth to a rumor like this the knowledgeable party would just say nothing, so I'd take that as a debunk for now.

I really hope not, not a fan of his acting chops
RunDTC - 2/22/2012, 5:30 AM
didn't we just see him as Gambit?

GUY PEARCE FTW!
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2012, 5:35 AM
Old or new rumor?... No way! Dont like the actor! Its enough that he plays John Carter in the big screen!

Chris Pine or Charlie Hunnam would be cool.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/22/2012, 5:36 AM
Guy Pearce would be perfect!

I don't care what the majority thought of Afleck's Daredevil but i freakin' loved it and i thought he pulled off a great job. Having said that though, i would love for Kitsch to pick up where Afleck left off. He's great in action scenes, he pulls off decent lines and i think the suit and cowl could do wonders for him. Not only that but if John Carter sells, he might just do for Daredevil what RDJ did for Ironman. Who knows until it happens, right? Either way, if they want him for Murdock, they better nab him quick before he gets any sequels to Carter done and his price rises up too high.

I also liked Daredevil, thought it had it's share of dodgy bits but underrated overall. Affleck was decent, he was let down by some of the dialog etc. Only ever saw Taylor K in Wolverine in which he didn't impress me, but apparently he's very good in John Carter and he certainly looks the part
GUNSMITH - 2/22/2012, 5:54 AM
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
TheAmarilloBlack - 2/22/2012, 5:55 AM
Chris Pine or GTFO

zemus - 2/22/2012, 5:57 AM

Him with short hair, I think it looks great!
ager - 2/22/2012, 5:59 AM
They need a guy around his age for a descent law student origin story, just not him... or Samuels. There's about 8 other guys that are better for it.
GUNSMITH - 2/22/2012, 6:01 AM
JUST GET A GOOD ACTOR OR JUST GET THIS GUY TO DO THE STUNTS OR GET SOMEONE THAT CAN DO DOTH.

Jolt17 - 2/22/2012, 6:06 AM
Not sure, perhaps not. I like his look as Gambit; under a different circumstance I think he can pull off the role, so I'd say he should stick with it.

As for the Daredevil himself...I don't know. All the actors who I think will be great are all around their 40's already (C. Hall, Pearce, Coster-Waldau); which make them rather unlikely choices, while I can't really see the likes of Chris Pine in the role. I kind of like the idea of Matt Bomer for Murdock, but I've never seen much of him, so I can't be so sure. I guess I'll stay silent for now, and will just wait to be surprised with the real pick - hopefully they'll have a fresh face.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 2/22/2012, 6:06 AM
Crap choice. He needs to be a plain-looking, unassuming dude. Like Paul Dano.
RorMachine - 2/22/2012, 6:09 AM
Well, Murdock is supposed to be a fairly handsome ladies man soooo..
RorMachine - 2/22/2012, 6:10 AM
Plus.I wouldn't describe Dano as plain so much as quite strange looking! Great actor though
GUNSMITH - 2/22/2012, 6:11 AM

THE REBOOT OF DAREDEVIL SHOULD FIT THE NAME, WE NEED TO SEE STUNTS THAT WOULD MAKE A REGULAR GUY CRINGE TO THINK OF DOING, WE CAN SEE HIM DO THE AMAZING STUFF, HE DOESNT NEED TO SEE HE JUST KNOWS..BUT AS AN AUDIENCE WE SHOULD BE LIKE OMG THATS CRAZY..'DAREDEVIL' SHOULD BE ONE TO FIT HIS NAMESAKE..NOT JUST BECAUSE HE WEARS HORNS AND A RED SUIT. YOU GO THAT ROUTE YOU HAVE A WINNER, THE LAST THING ANYONE WANTS TO SEE IS A 'RE-DONE'.
WarPig - 2/22/2012, 6:11 AM
Too bad Rutger Hauer is too old for this part. He would've made a great Daredevil!
imnotwearinghockeypants - 2/22/2012, 6:13 AM
@ror, yeah, I guess so, but a more subtle kind of handsome. Maybe not Dano, but something like that.
kingkrikkit - 2/22/2012, 6:15 AM
No no no... we need older, not a kid, and the first DD movie was good, it had its bad parts (Elektra, Kingpin) but got the overall atmosphere right, and the costume was [frick]ing perfect, the billy club was perfect, his fighting style, his "sonar", they really did a lot RIGHT with that movie, esp the Directors Cut.
No Taylor Kitsch, no origin story (it was actually really done well the first time, a quick explanation then straight to the action)
RyanLantern77 - 2/22/2012, 6:19 AM
GTFO with this dude.... He is acting is as flat as my 3rd grade girlfriend
whoa123 - 2/22/2012, 6:19 AM
NO. Garrett Hedlund!!
ComicBookGoth - 2/22/2012, 6:20 AM
i F*ckin Hope not

nothing about these

Says Shambit
SageMode - 2/22/2012, 6:20 AM
Hmmmm, interesting choice. I honestly think he could pull off this role.
Not one I would think of off the back, but interesting. Much like Chris Evans was for Cap.
Minghagz - 2/22/2012, 6:26 AM
I think I've only seen him play Gambit in Wolverine but just from that I wouldn't even consider him.
TheAmarilloBlack - 2/22/2012, 6:28 AM
@WarPig
Hauer already was Daredevil (kinda)

KnobGoblin - 2/22/2012, 6:29 AM
What? No, don't miscast this part again, FOX. Joel Edgerton for Matt Murdoch please.
Polygame - 2/22/2012, 6:31 AM
is there a shortage of actors these days? why always look in the same bucket to find a CBM actor? damn! there's plenty of name out there, stop recycling Hollywood!
xXkryptoniteXx - 2/22/2012, 6:33 AM
@theamarilloblack

That film was inspired by zatoichi the blind samurai, if you haven't watched that, watch the 2003 version, it's awesome.

About this guy being daredevil, I don't mind who's playing it just as long as it's a rated R(which i doubt) and a good story.
Hawksblueyes - 2/22/2012, 6:35 AM
I also liked the first Daredevil movie and I would mind seeing him get this part. He has the same quiet, speaks when necessary demeanor that Murdock has always had. He may just be perfect for it.

Having said all that, I though Ryan Reynolds had it locked up. ;P
Shaman - 2/22/2012, 6:36 AM
Kitsch is far and away from being a "kid". He's grown alot as an actor too from Wolverine: Origins. Hell, as stupid as they were scripted, he executed his action scenes brilliantly. His dialog and choreography sucked, true. But the director couldn't shoot a convincing scene to save his life so Kitsch was hardly to blame for that godawful film.
Gigacrusher45 - 2/22/2012, 6:39 AM
No..... no. we need someone who is a martial artist.
Shaman - 2/22/2012, 6:42 AM
Gavin Hood made me enjoy Bret Ratner's X3, that's no easy feat. Hood really excells at sucking. People can blame the studio all they want, Hood shot and edited that film himself, regardless if the studio had strict guidelines or not. He could've walked off like Vaughn did on X3. But he didn't.
TheAmarilloBlack - 2/22/2012, 6:42 AM
lol tea
95 - 2/22/2012, 6:46 AM
I liked the first one. Had it's flaws, though.

Not really interested in another fox DD.

Revert to Disney!
TheAmarilloBlack - 2/22/2012, 6:47 AM
@kryptonite
I know! I didn't find that out until much later, though. I've seen just about every Zatoici adaptation there is. Kitano's version is definately my favorite.

As a child I watched Blind Fury over and over on vhs and imagined what a great Daredevil movie it could've been. Then I get Affeck's version and was left feeling let down.
JackBauer - 2/22/2012, 6:48 AM
@TEA - Why is he smelling his fingers? ;D
Hawksblueyes - 2/22/2012, 6:50 AM
As usual though, everyone is placing the cart in front of the horse. The key words in the quote above are everyone from ____________ to ____________ said to be in contention."

That means he isn't even on a short list yet. He is one name on a log list of names being considered.

Hawksblueyes - 2/22/2012, 6:51 AM
long list*
JackBauer - 2/22/2012, 6:52 AM
I must have heightened senses as well because I did the exact same thing last night :)
JackBauer - 2/22/2012, 6:53 AM
@Hawks - I like "log list" better :)

I was in your neck of the woods the other day for work.
