TOYS: Rejected STAR WARS Merchandise Concept Designs

Yes, they actually rejected stuff! And ironically a lot of it is cooler than some of the junk they did produce under the licence. Have a look at some unused design sketches..

You might think Lucas a co approve everything that is put in front of them, after all given the amount of Star Wars merchandise out there why wouldn't you? But it seems they do have limits. However, far from being the completely over the top designs and ideas you might expect, a lot of this stuff is actually pretty awesome! I know I would definitely be sitting in a Jabba bean bag chair right now if I could be..

Incidentally, they did eventually make some Han Solo in Carbonite ice-cube trays. I know because I have some. The designs showed up first over at Action Figure Insider. Well which of these would take your fancy, and which ones are you glad never saw the light of day?

Some of this stuff doesn't suck. I think the sun shields are pretty clever and I might even buy a desk lamp.

The rings would probably sell pretty well too.
BlazinTexan - 2/28/2012, 8:05 AM
death star basketball is great actually all this shit is great
RorMachine - 2/28/2012, 8:07 AM
Totally! The only thing I imagine might not sell is the Dagoba pencil sharpener thing..
BrutalDuke - 2/28/2012, 8:09 AM
The Han in carbonite fridge would be cool for the down stairs game room.
RorMachine - 2/28/2012, 8:11 AM
I don't mind good merchandise if it goes along with good movies, but you're right. He made it more about what he could market than the actual story.
orgasmicslug - 2/28/2012, 8:15 AM
would love a jabba the hutt beanbag chair :D
mawilli4 - 2/28/2012, 8:15 AM

Verdugo - 2/28/2012, 8:15 AM
I would have bougth the Sun Shields and the Bean Bag.
PaulRom - 2/28/2012, 8:19 AM
Those are all really cool. Love the flashlight and sun shields the most. I'd pay for 'em all except for the Death Star basketball hoop.
TheGoldenAvenger - 2/28/2012, 8:25 AM
Damn, these are so sick. [frick] whoever turned these down.
Spidey91 - 2/28/2012, 8:29 AM
R2 wetbar is actually awesome, same with the mini-fridge
HavocPrime - 2/28/2012, 8:40 AM
Why the hell didn't they make these? Would of bought them all, except for the [frick]ing Jar Jar shit.
NeoBaggins - 2/28/2012, 8:44 AM
Oh, so THIS is the reason why I have to PRETEND I have a light-saber every time I pick up a flashlight. Mother[frick]ers.
BIGBMH - 2/28/2012, 8:45 AM
I'd love a light saber flash light!
GrayFox1025 - 2/28/2012, 8:48 AM
I think out of all of them, the sun shields are the most clever and badass. I sure as hell would get them
zerakis81 - 2/28/2012, 8:57 AM
I want a minibar like that!
overlordfombax - 2/28/2012, 9:04 AM
hahaa. This is great. Shut up n' take my money... Although bitch, you know Yoda whittles his pencils, no electricity for him...
TheDynamo - 2/28/2012, 9:15 AM
Some of that stuff is cool, but we all know that they will all sell.
DravenWayne88 - 2/28/2012, 9:42 AM
Why were some of these rejected? The mini fridge, wet bar, lightsaber flashlight, sun shields, inflatable chairs, the lamp, hell even the pencil holder are all awesome and could've definitely sold!
Fogs - 2/28/2012, 9:42 AM
I like the bespin lamp, the sun shields and the bantha slippers.

The popsicle mold is funny also, but I'm not licking han solo.
Fogs - 2/28/2012, 9:43 AM
@HavocPrime - that jarjar shitball is clearly for controlling rage in adverse situations.
Reverend - 2/28/2012, 9:51 AM
I was expecting the "My Little Bantha" line or endless Jar Jar Binks themed concepts. Most of these are not that bad.
sinister84 - 2/28/2012, 10:07 AM
I want the Jabba couch!
SKAPEGOAT - 2/28/2012, 10:08 AM
Damnit, I want that Jabba bean bag! I could have my wife dress in the princes Leia Costume and...HAHA

The Yoda backpack is actually sold at Disney World in the Star Wars gift shop. I almost bought one, but thought that a 36 year old man would look kind of silly walking around town with it!
SamHell - 2/28/2012, 10:08 AM
adam lambert probably wants the han solo popcicle mold

other than that they're all pretty cool
ballstothewall - 2/28/2012, 10:11 AM
9GAG.
thecrib8 - 2/28/2012, 10:12 AM

SamHell - 2/28/2012, 10:18 AM
that's not the same flashlight, man

The Cloud City desk lamp is the shit
amxt - 2/28/2012, 10:37 AM
I like them all... the only thing that is missing is that Jar Jar Binks should be on the trophy wall.

And I've seen Yoda backpacks around ... so.. not rejected

valeriesghost - 2/28/2012, 10:55 AM
alot of these are pretty cool and i wouldn't mind owning them. An R2D2 wet bar?! please and thank you
95 - 2/28/2012, 11:00 AM
I want!
rbfn04 - 2/28/2012, 11:37 AM
Death Star basketball. I need it in my life
ISleepNow - 2/28/2012, 12:07 PM
The Death Star Pop a Shot game is designed wrong. The ramp should look like the Death Star trench and there should be a hole that represents the ventillation shaft that you throw the ball into
GLprime2814 - 2/28/2012, 12:16 PM
I would buy probably haft this stuff even the gungan ball so I can use it for skeet shooting.
marvel72 - 2/28/2012, 12:58 PM
you could put the star wars logo on a fresh steaming turd & it would sell.
m73 - 2/28/2012, 1:09 PM
Yup. sunshields..seen them about, perhaps not legit :)
l0rdleg0las - 2/28/2012, 1:10 PM
i would have seriously bought a bunch of those.
sarahsatire - 2/28/2012, 1:13 PM
I can't believe these were rejected. They're awesome! Jabba the Hutt beanbag chair wins.
Gmoney84 - 2/28/2012, 1:22 PM
I would totally own some of these. That desk lap would look great in my office.
soundwave129 - 2/28/2012, 1:30 PM
The Han Solo Popsicle mold, Millennium Falcon sun shield, Yoda backpack, and Lightsaber flashlight are all real! (And there's even an R2 Pepsi dispenser that looks a lot that potable wet bar.)
mgeoff88 - 2/28/2012, 2:02 PM
Most of that stuff is awesome.

I would've bought that R2-D2 wet bar, for sure.
laughterman26 - 2/28/2012, 3:58 PM
i would of got the lightsaber flashlight and the han solo fridge

if you disagree with me "just think about it a mini han solo fridge" in your house
felixxx - 2/28/2012, 7:15 PM
These are cool. Some one should take the R2D2 wetbar and make it remote control. That would be winner!
Joe6Pack74 - 2/28/2012, 8:49 PM
I may make the R2-D2 wetbar. Always wanted to build R2. The R2 builders club would be a great thing to base plans off of.
johan02 - 2/28/2012, 11:13 PM
GOOD GOD!!!! Ive been collecting Star Wars toys since I was a kid, I mean original stuff. Im talking Revenge of the Jedi stuff even. I would KILL to get my hands on almost all of those. The only thing that really blows is the Gungin squishy ball, other then that I say thay all f*¢kin rock!
