POLL: Do You Want To See A VENOM Movie?

POLL: Do You Want To See A VENOM Movie? POLL: Do You Want To See A VENOM Movie?

Sounds like a strange question. After all, the more CBMs the better right? But the news that Josh Trank may helm the Spider-Man spin-off was met with a decidedly mixed reaction. Click to give your take..

Last night we heard reports that Chronicle director Josh Trank was in talks to take the reigns of Sony's long gestating Venom movie. In case you aren't aware of the character, Venom is one of Spider-Man's most popular villains. In essence the actual character is an alien symbiote, which has latched on to several different hosts over the years. The first of these being Peter Parker's rival Eddie Brock, who was played by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's disappointing Spider-Man 3. As popular as Venom is with comic fans, he does seem like an unusual choice for a solo movie outing. For starters, despite playing a heroic role at times he is most definitely a villainous character. Also, outside of his relationship with Spider-Man he doesn't really have much of a back story - an arc that would lend itself to some kind of origin tale. I think most people are just curious as to what type of movie this would be, and what story it would tell. There are also those of the opinion that other characters are far more deserving of some movie love first.

On the other hand, just because this is being made doesn't mean those others won't be too at some stage. I mean can we ever really have too many CBMs? Venom was pretty much wasted in Spider-Man 3, wouldn't it be nice to see the character done justice to? We don't know anything about what Sony are planning. We could see a horror, a thriller, a comedy even! Venom might be the hero/anti-hero. This movie could also tie in with Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man somehow. Plus if Trank does sign on we at least know that its in good hands. Anyway, one thing is for certain - we could all do with hearing a bit more about it. Until then, cast your vote below..

Haha, the last option cracks me up. Anyway, I personally want to see a Venom movie, BUT I don't know if it can work well or not.

Shylamnan did make some great movies, his bad ones don't change that. But yeah, we could do with seeing a few more movies from Trank before we know for sure.

I don't think a Venom solo movie would work but I would like to see one. I agree with Teabag Venom is over rated and I know this is gonna be a very unpopular choice of words but... I liked Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom and I would like to see him in the role again.

SEEING HIM IN RAIMI'S SPIDERMAN THREE PUT EVERYONE IN THE MINDSET TO NEVER WANT TO SEE A VENOM MOVIE EVER. BUT THEN AGAIN PEOPLE WERE CONTENT THINKING JACK NICHOLSON WAS THE JOKER UNTIL HEATH CAME ALONG AND BECAME THE DEFINITIVE JOKER. SO WHO KNOWS GUY? HECK THIS COULD BE A "HEATH-ER" OR A "DRAGON BALL".

who's venom?

actually, kinda a cool character terribly handled in spidey 3 - one of the worst CBM's of all time. (it made a fack load of money too, what does that tell you about putting stock in how well a movie does at the box office).

so, no is the answer.

BROCK SHOULD HAVE BEEN TWICE PETERS SIZE AND MUSCLES, SYMBIOTE ADDS THE SPIDER STRENGTH WITH THE HOSTS OWN MAKING HIM STRONGER THAN SPIDEY, A VILLAIN HAS TO HAVE A ONE UP ON YOU TO MAKE IT INTERESTING OR IT BECOMES PREDICTABLE.

I just want to a faithful interpretation of venom in one or 2 spidey movies first and then maybe a solo movie.

I kind of like the idea of the movies doing something like-
1. A movie combining elements of some of venom's best early story lines (and maybe a little bit of ultimate story line fusion)
2. Lethal Protector
3. Carnage

I would actually love Venom movies. The first starting with Eddie Brock, then Flash Thomson getting the Venom suit. It would be great.

But with Sony doing it no. Just no. Sony will make a Ghost Rider out of it. They always seem to mess up the really great characters.

But if Marvel Studios does a Venom film (when they get the rights back of course), then I say bring it on!

Doesn't Venom has his own comicbook now? I think there's plenty of story and background to make a good movie.

If Venom is "Poop"

Carnage must be "Bloody Diareaha"

And I'm not talking British here

people who dont like venom are stupid in my book

anyways with that said no a solo movie with him would be the wrong move

if this new basketballman imean spiderman has a sequel which im sure it will -_- then they should have venom come back and done right ..hopefully with no new balance shoes or yellow eyes from space.

The only way it could work for me is like that:
Wait for him to be introduced in the new SPIDER-MAN movies. Do not kill him off like Raimi did. Then do his movie with Carnage as the villain, but venom is not a hero at all, he just going to have a storyline with Carnage on the movie. Done.

My opinion:

It'll just be another Ghost Rider/ Punisher. Slightly cool visuals for another "Extreme" comic character. Venom just doesn't have the motivation to make a really good/ great cbm.

You ask a question like that on a comic site and of course people will say yes. The true answer is a resounding NO.

That's normal so don't be alarmed. Generally stupid ppl think everybody else is stupid like themselves.

your feelings are perfectly normal for special ppl as yourself.

Continue with your adolencant wet dreams about a guy (not unlike you) gets ripped with a long Fuerdain salivia coated tongue that you could use at night on your sister or whomever.

I like Venom, but a standalone Venom movie outside of the Spiderman franchise makes no sense and would be tough to market. Put it perspective, would that mean they should start making films abut villains like Dr. Doom and leave out the Fantastic Four and Lex Luthor and leave out Superman and Sinister and leave out the X-Men? Really? I don't think Joe Q. Public is going to buy into a villain-centric film.
CaptainObvious
CaptainObvious - 3/7/2012, 12:38 PM
No. A character like Venom wouldn't work without Spider-Man. Plus, isn't Venom basically Spider-Man but is evil? That would seem a bit redundant.
