Will they ever get off the Vampire buzz? Doesn't look like it. Now we can add this adaptation of the Image comic Undying Love to the list of blood suckers in the pipeline. But this one will be directed by Alexandre Aja - the man behind the pretty terrifying and gory Switchblade Romance (or "High Tension" Stateside). He went on to direct a decent remake of The Hills Have Eyes, and of course the pretty entertaining Piranha 3D. He also brought us the fairly lousy Mirrors however. Still, he knows his way around a horror flick so this might turn out to be one of the good ones. According to Deadline..

The film revolves around an ex-solider who falls for a vampire, though in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld.

The movie will be produced by Michael De Luca, Stephen L’Heureux and Benderspink. Has anyone read this comic? Any good? Here is a brief synopsis. The movie doesn't seem to be straying from the premise anyway..

A horror-action tale, equal parts vampire mythology and Chinese folklore, set in modern day Hong Kong. Ex-soldier John Sargent has fallen for a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei.

The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart: Mei's a vampire. To free Mei from the curse, Sargent sets out to destroy the vampire that made her. The only problem: Mei was turned by one of the most powerful vampires in history..

These Vampire TV shows & Movies are like Mosquitoes on a hot humid summer night. For every one you swat another 10 of the blood suckers show up.

One of the primary problems with vampire movies, books, and t.v. shows in the past 10 years or so, is that the reader/viewer is inundated with large vampiric communities and no one seems to make the mythical creatues of the night a more lone, unique character.

The Swedish film "Let The Right One In" and it's American indy counterpart "Let Me In" were sensational books/movies because of the uniqueness and sngularity of the vampire characters. That's what made Stpehen King's original "Salem's Lot" so good, because of the central character Mr. Barlow. It's what made the original "Fright Night" so good.

Same way with werewolves too. Stephen King's "Silver Bullet" and it's corresponding book "Cycle of the Werewolf" were very good because it was about a single, lone werewolf who was the central antagonist, not an entire pack of them.

Don't get me wrong though, as Underworld was one of the better vampire/werewolf movies, but it's premise was based on warring factions.

Would love to see a new Vampirella movie and modern Salem's Lot that was directed and written the right way too, but when you throw massive numbers of the undead at the reader/veiwer, it becomes monotonous IMO.
