The Amazing Spider-Man is off to a very good start, netting $35m on its opening day in the States, giving it the biggest Tuesday opening of all time. Many experts also believe the movie could reach the $150m mark by the end of the weekend. Sony had already given a sequel the green light before this movie was even close to being released, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that they've given a third installment the go ahead now that big bucks are being made. The following was announced on the official TASM Facebook page..

It's finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero's journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.

Director Mark Webb has not signed on to helm the sequel yet, but has revealed that he has some ideas on the direction the story should go, so hopefully we will get official word that he is returning soon. The Amazing Spider-Man is in theaters now, and you can check out my take on the movie here

Old news right?!?!
Comix - 7/5/2012, 3:51 AM
they shouldnt do a reboot after this one, they need to just make spidey 2099
Knightrider - 7/5/2012, 3:53 AM
With th film currently sitting at 70%, when I last checked Rotten Tomatoes, not the best critical start, of course money earned is a different matter. I'm sure if GL had smashed box office records a sequel would have been made despite the film being poorly receieved.
Frogman - 7/5/2012, 3:59 AM
But are the bad ratings coming from die-hard Raimi fans/people who are still unhappy that they rebooted, in other words biased people. I personally thought the first one was brilliant and I can't wait for the sequel.
Marjoh63 - 7/5/2012, 4:02 AM
I thought they would make more than 3 movies :/

Man, I really wanted to love The Amazing Spider-man. The trailers looked great, I loved the costumes and aesthetic of the movie, but the movie was just completely meh. There were some great action sequences (like the fight at the school), but overall the movie didn't justify the reboot. Yes I know Sony made the movie to retain the rights, but I wish they would have just started the movie with him already having his powers. So much of it was rehashed, and as for it being the "untold story." Much of it was recycled from Raimi's film. We never truly find out what happens to his parents, Peter never finds uncle Ben's killer, and towards the end the schitzo lizard was almost identical to the Green Goblin in terms of mannerisms. I'm too lazy to write a review of it but i would have to give it a 7/10. It had some charm to it, and it was beautifully acted, but the script was dull and the actors deserved better.
GUNSMITH - 7/5/2012, 4:12 AM
LOVED THE MOVIE, WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS A PROGRESSION OF THE SUIT, MAKE IT LOOK MORE TOWARDS THE ORIGINAL DESIGN. MARC WEBB AREN'T YOU TIRED OF THE BASKETBALL COMPARISONS??
blvdnoise - 7/5/2012, 4:16 AM
OF COURSE IT IS..
MisterFixit - 7/5/2012, 4:17 AM
lol we knew it
Sabconth - 7/5/2012, 4:19 AM
@Marjoh63

Hey they still might, but trying to plan that far ahead is simply asking for bad luck.

Each film should be able to stand on it's own, I don't want them holding back on any cool action scenes for future sequels. Some overarching plot points are fine, but other than that each film should be the best it can possible be.
MisterFixit - 7/5/2012, 4:22 AM
@grif uhauhauhauhauha spidey 2099 would be awesome untill they greenlight it, then suddenly it will become "shit" for you
SupermansBeard - 7/5/2012, 4:23 AM
Awesome, great choice. I agree with Nolan's way of making movies, don't make it Episodic. If you are going to do more than three, you need to go full force and do six like Star Wars (even though it was originally 3 and better as 3.)
hellfire - 7/5/2012, 4:24 AM

UrbanKnight - 7/5/2012, 4:31 AM
Good but now there is really no chance of Avengers team up. hopefully wrong.
Marjoh63 - 7/5/2012, 4:31 AM
@Sabconth

Yeah , I was thinking that the first trilogy would be about Peters parents death and their involvement with Oscorp , and then they come up with another story arc for a new trilogy in the same universe .
Sinister six can be good if they dont use SM3 as inspiration -_-
Batman27 - 7/5/2012, 4:35 AM
Yes thank you god! I can't believe some people hated this film.
Sabconth - 7/5/2012, 4:37 AM
@RedHood89

This isn't 'Nolan's way' of making movies, he never planned to make any future sequels.

If anything this series is going to be episodic; we still don't know the full mystery behind peter's parents, particularly his father, and that will probably play out across the trilogy.

Then of course there's the Gwen Stacy saga to consider, and we all know how that turns out.
Jolt17 - 7/5/2012, 4:43 AM
So the trilogy will be built upon the disappearance of the Parkers? Good, good.

At least that means we'll see the biggest plot hole in the movie resolved in the future films.
Kazaam - 7/5/2012, 4:58 AM
@Sabconth Did you like the film?
Sabconth - 7/5/2012, 4:59 AM
@Kazaam

I haven't seen it.
HarveyDent88 - 7/5/2012, 5:01 AM
sigh
gambgel - 7/5/2012, 5:05 AM
why just a trilogy? again.

Cant these franchises move beyond just three movies?
Thegoddamnbatman52 - 7/5/2012, 5:08 AM
Yea three movies isn't enough to get to all of the villains that deserve a big screen debut
PeterParker1991 - 7/5/2012, 5:09 AM
Yes. This is indeed good news. Fingers crossed for a possible Venom storyline, based on the Ultimate comics. Some flashbacks of Richard Parker and Eddie Brock Sr. working on the Venom Suit could feature, as well as set up for Eddie Brock Jr./Venom. As for the main villain, I'm putting my money on Mysterio. No one else could've possibly popped in an out of Connors' cell like Quentin Beck.
PeterParker1991 - 7/5/2012, 5:11 AM
Three movies is plenty. Sometimes more isn't better. Ex. Ice Age. After the first movie the others sucked. Case closed
ninjaturtle11 - 7/5/2012, 5:13 AM
better than the old ones. the last movie should have the sinister 6
Sabconth - 7/5/2012, 5:14 AM
@PeterParker1991

The last Ice Age still made a billion dollars... and the new one looks to do the same...
musashi - 7/5/2012, 5:21 AM
SPOILERS
I didn't like it. They messed up Uncle Ben's death. He becomes Spiderman out of revenge and not guilt. Then he ONLY chases guys who match the killers description. Then he totally gives up on catching the killer!! WTF?

Garfield and Stone were fine but the plot was terrible.

I hope that I get to see a Marvel Spidey movie before I die. Just not another origin movie!
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/5/2012, 5:25 AM
@musashi- He remembers that his Uncle told him not to get revenge.

Bring on the sequels.
musashi - 7/5/2012, 5:26 AM
@consultant I just rewatched Spiderman 1 and they totally addressed Peters parents. It went like this:

Norman Osborn: Your parents must be very proud.
Peter Parker: I live with my Aunt and Uncle

Done!! Okay, let's get on with the movie!

DarthDan - 7/5/2012, 5:26 AM
Early reports suggest that the villian in the 3rd installment of the new trilogy will be Toby Maguire as Spiderman.
musashi - 7/5/2012, 5:29 AM
@deadpool I think that the guilt over Uncle Bens death is a HUGE part of what makes him Spiderman. So he caught like six guys then suddenly remembered what Uncle Ben said?

I have no problem with anyone who liked this movie. Each to his own I guess.
TheTank - 7/5/2012, 5:30 AM
Thank you. I saw it at midnight and while the tone was far less tounge in cheek than the Raimi series, the plot and the overall film just was eh, it kinda felt like a bunch of scenes just cobbled together, and was just dull, but the actors in it were great, yeah i guess they can one up it in the sequel but honestly this movie didn't really leave me clamoring to see anymore of this spiderman.
TimL - 7/5/2012, 5:30 AM
@DarthDan: I lol'd

I will watch it until Gwen dies (thats going to be my last ASM movie then).

Oh and in the 3rd installment, how old is Garfield going to be by then? 34?
TheSoulEater - 7/5/2012, 5:33 AM
kay
RunawaysHD - 7/5/2012, 5:35 AM
I think they'll kill Gwen off in the third one but, will that go down well with the general audience?

I still think they shouldn't kill her off. They can still bring in MJ and Harry.

This film was well done. I think people are still hungover on Raimi's franchise being rebooted.

I like this film, shxt was hot
DarthDan - 7/5/2012, 5:38 AM
@Tim

Gwen's totally going to die in the next one. SHe's smoking hot tho and it'll be a shame to see her go..

And yeah he'll be an old man but still will look like he's 12.
SkywayTraffic - 7/5/2012, 5:42 AM
lololololololol at all the haters. This movie was amazing. Dark Knight Rises will literally suck salty balls compared to this.
RunawaysHD - 7/5/2012, 5:43 AM
@DarthDan she probably will, I guess it's my crush that wants her to stay alive :) lol
Jolt17 - 7/5/2012, 5:44 AM
I really want to see a great Venom in this series...hell, even if it has to be the Ultimate Spider-Man origin. (That's why Edward Brock, Sr. is one of my best guesses as the true identity of the Man in the Shadow - or at least, I hope it is him.) More than Green Goblin, yes. I'd love to see Osborn, but more as a background villain. Bring the Parkers mystery, and, if possible, relate it with the Brocks...and the Symbiote.
Frogman - 7/5/2012, 5:44 AM
@consultant: If it appeals to very few people why is the film already doing good box office numbers? Even breaking the record for a Tuesday opening.
MGS - 7/5/2012, 5:45 AM
Sure, it had broke a box office record for a Tuesday, but it was the weakest opening of any of the franchise they neglect to report. Raimi's original had a $39 mil opening and the subsequent sequels got bigger. While it may be successful, there hasn't been a fervor for it like that that accompanied Raimi's releases. From a financial standpoint, it will fell short compare to them especially with only a 2 week window before TDKR arrives.
JoeMomma29 - 7/5/2012, 5:45 AM
LOL @ Skywaytraffic you cannot compare this with TDKR. This movie was not that great even my kids were like it was okay!
BlackDynamite - 7/5/2012, 5:48 AM
One problem was that they tried to make this movie about spidermans origins and Peters which is way to much for one movie (something I had hoped would've been different from the other trilogy)

I would've been okay with this being a true origin story without that piece of shit lizard in it AT ALL maybe conners but not the lizard yet, Eddie Brock could've worked with conners too just to make him available already

This movie should've simply been Peter searching for info on his parents and just helping curt get an arm in the first half of the movie and in the second half after getting his powers ben gets killed the spider molester comes out looking for the killer. after he finds the killer and all that is said and done... (this might be a strecth but) spiderman comes out during the day and fights crime in the street with the police thing at the same time, I hated how badly this movie tried to be the dark knight.

And the after credits scene could've been the rat in conners lab sitting on the floor growing it's arm back with us just hearing... "It works" by conners

Then they could've taken time with the lizard and give him a full compelling story, like was I supposed to care when Captin Stacy died, he was in the movie for like 15 seconds lol

I'm done 7.5/10

Interpool3 - 7/5/2012, 5:51 AM
I loved the first two Raimi movies, but Tobey was an awful Peter Parker. Spider-Man 3 was one of the worst movies of all time. The only reason I liked those movies was I finally got to see my favorite superhero come to life. To be honest, I loved The Amazing Spider-Man. It lacked in certain areas, but then again so did the Raimi trilogy. If this was the first ever Spidey movie would there still be all this hate, or is just b/c you don't think it lived up to Raimi's cheesefest of a trilogy.
comics2film - 7/5/2012, 5:54 AM
The amazing spiderman is a fantastic movie! It knocks Raimi's spiderman 1 and spiderman 2 out of the park.
We finally got a peter parker that was inventive and a genius from the comics. (looking forward to the spidertracers) "with great power comes great responsiblity" wasn't said word for word but the gist of it was there.
We got a character who has a real abandonment issues and a person who is a social outcast. (wow just like comics) the chemistry between gwen and peter was fantastic. So looking forward to the trilogy.
CloserPleasures - 7/5/2012, 5:55 AM
totally agree wit RidiculousFanBoyDemands i gave the exact same score rite after i saw it 7 out of 10. this movie could have been so much better andrew is perfect as spiderman and peter and i loved that so much but this is just a good start thats all it didnt feel as big as it should have the fight scenes are short espcially the final fight cmon man yea there are some cool parts but movie just wasent amazing cant wait for the second one so i can forget this one .love you spiderman ur still my favorite superhero
