The new series will focus on Ryu and Ken as youngsters honing their skills. The show will be produced by Jacqueline Quella and comes from the mind of Joey Ansah, creator of the successful fan film, Street Fighter: Legacy, which you can see below..

Here is the press release in full, followed by the SDCC announcement video..

Capcom USA, Inc. and Assassin’s Fist Limited have signed an agreement to produce a live-action series based on Capcom®’s successful ‘Street Fighter®’ game franchise.

To be called ‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’, this thrilling, multi layered series will take the audience back to the formative years of the iconic characters, Ryu and Ken, as they live a traditional warrior’s life in secluded Japan. The boys are, unknowingly, the last practitioners of the ancient fighting style known as ‘Ansatsuken’ (Assassin’s Fist). The series follows them as they learn about the mysterious past of their Master, Gouken, and the tragic and dark legacy of the Ansatsuken style. Can their destiny be changed…or will history repeat itself?

‘Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist’, the brain-child of Joey Ansah, is being brought to the screen by the core team behind the hugely successful fan movie ‘Street Fighter: Legacy’.

“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist will be what fans have been waiting for. Legacy was a taster; a glimpse of what a live-action Street Fighter should be,” said Joey Ansah, announcing the movie. “This takes the story right back to the start – the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma. This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow.”

‘Street Fighter: Legacy’ received a rapturous reception from fans and critics, becoming one of the most successful YouTube movies of all time in the film & animation category, with over 8 million views. Christian Howard, who starred as ‘Ken’ in ‘Legacy’ and has co-written the script for ‘Assassin’s Fist’ with Joey Ansah, said, “Our priority is to stay true to the appearance, fighting techniques and canon of the Street Fighter game. At the same time we’ve managed to make this an emotion and character driven story, which will surprise viewers who might just be expecting a super faithful fight fest!.”

The series is being produced by Jacqueline Quella, whose previous projects include ‘Romanzo Criminale’ (Crime Novel); Academy Award nominated ‘Don’t Tell’; and Tobe Hooper’s ‘The Toolbox Murders’.

The series will be directed by Joey Ansah who, as ‘Desh’, was part of one of the most celebrated movie fight scenes of all time, in ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’; and was recently at the heart of the action in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’; and is in the forthcoming ‘The Numbers Station’ with John Cusack.

The series was announced by Capcom’s Producer for Street Fighter, Yoshinori Ono at Comic-Con 2012 (San Diego), and will be distributed worldwide by Content Media Corporation for a release in 2013.

Says Joey Ansah..

"Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist will be what fans have been waiting for. Legacy was a taster; a glimpse of what a live-action Street Fighter should be. This takes the story right back to the start - the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma. This will become the definitive back-story from which further epic adventures will follow.”

Here's to hoping that this turns out well.

Love Street Fighter, hopefully this doesn't blow. But it probably will
mgeoff88 - 7/12/2012, 7:12 PM
That's [frick]ing awesome! With EMH being cancelled and it looks like Thundercats is as well, I need more new TV shows to watch.

I will tune in. If they could use the anime Street Fighter II: V(pretty much the same story) to draw inspiration from, this could be great:

A live-action version of that would kick so much ass!
marvel72 - 7/12/2012, 7:13 PM
well it can't be any worse than that f*ckin van damme movie.
Bandrews1 - 7/12/2012, 7:13 PM
Damn I was hoping for a new animated series.
ATrueHero1987 - 7/12/2012, 7:14 PM
I know y'all remember the cartoon that use to come on USA.....along with Street Sharks.lol
TheLight - 7/12/2012, 7:19 PM
@mgeoff88,

I was thinking the same thing. I'd love to see this series happen! With it being close to 2V and the animated movie, this would be a cool and modern way of being re-introduced to the SF characters, especially the star players, Ryu and Ken. This better not suck like "Legend of Chun-li". Man, that movie was profoundly sad.
jessepostal - 7/12/2012, 7:19 PM
I love the van dame movie, it's a little cheesy but good fun, plus when that movie came out the games were still fresh
worldbreaker - 7/12/2012, 7:22 PM
i have a feeling this will suck the way tekken sucked. i did love hearing the ryu theme during the fight though
ABLEE337 - 7/12/2012, 7:35 PM

Report Comment Anything's better then that piece of crap Legend of Chun-Li!

That movie is unwatchable. I have seen maybe a total of 15 minutes. This actually could be an interesting TV show. Formuliac, no doubt, but a more fitting format to present an adaption of a fighting/tournament game.
DPeterParker - 7/12/2012, 7:49 PM
street fighter works better in animation in my opinion, live action has not done this franchise justice...ever.
Keldor - 7/12/2012, 7:50 PM
@Monstaboi89:
That wass very funny!
Optimus83 - 7/12/2012, 7:56 PM
¡¡¡Round 1!!!. ...¡¡¡Fight!!!
sweetre15 - 7/12/2012, 8:18 PM
Joey Ansah actually KNOWS AND RESPECTS the canon of the games and he apparently even knows how to do the visual aspects justice so chances are......This should be awesome even better than MK:Legacy because Joey Ansah has more experience than Kevin Tancharoen.
animeex - 7/12/2012, 8:23 PM
Please no! The Street Fighter movies have stunk and Chun Li went right to the end with again... Wait for it... Pronouncing Ryu's name wrong.
Jarvisjackrabbit - 7/12/2012, 8:23 PM
@Knightrider

I have the theme song from Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight on heavy rotation in my brain now. Thank you...I'm not being sarcastic either, seriously, thank you. I loved that game and all it's trippy backflips blasting awesomeness.
Weeton - 7/12/2012, 8:24 PM
@Worldbreaker Best gd JCVD Speech of all time.

i really hope its good, cos if it is it will be the first one to do it! i can still see gomez adams as m bison....
parascythe - 7/12/2012, 8:46 PM
i hope they keep the actors in legacy...
sweetre15 - 7/12/2012, 9:16 PM
@grayfox: That's because none of the Live action adaptations treated it with the respect it deserves...Not the games' fault.

Street Fighter: Legacy actually shows that it can be pulled off

@parascythe: Chances are...they will
zach634827 - 7/12/2012, 9:35 PM

Random post, but is anyone else sick of all the ads on every single goddamn video now!? Even if its a stupid 5 second meme video, I gotta watch 30 seconds of the same ****. I love this website, but I can't stand to watch vids on here anymore!
espnfx - 7/12/2012, 9:58 PM
hope420 - 7/12/2012, 10:23 PM
Looks better then the last 2 attempts.
Minghagz - 7/12/2012, 10:55 PM
Not sure how I feel about this... I mean that choreography in that clip was good and they used some cool tricks in their filming but there were still a few cheesy moments.

I think they have the utmost respect to give the series some true justice unlike both live action films. So I'll stay hopeful. The only thing I fall back on is the animated series and only 1 of the animated movies which were both damn good.
novaprime - 7/12/2012, 11:19 PM
Sounds good to me hope they dont fff this up
fistofthenorthstar - 7/13/2012, 12:51 AM
cant wait!!
DukeAcureds - 7/13/2012, 2:32 AM
Sounds really promising. And that Snydery fan-flick was pretty good, too.
Don't know why everyone's so eager to dis Legend of Chun Li. Okay, it was shoddy, but it was a lot better than the Jean-Claude Van Damme version. Chun Li is at least a hell of a lot more integral than [frick]ing Guile. I mean, I know Hollywood wanted an American in the lead, but why not Ken, at least? Street Fighter is not supposed to be G.I. Joe.
AlexDeLarge87 - 7/13/2012, 5:37 AM
Cool news. :)
Fogs - 7/13/2012, 7:13 AM
@espnfx

"Street Fighter Lost Years" FTW.

If you people don't know it, just search for the series in Youtube.
CrashTest - 7/13/2012, 10:57 AM
The Short Film was Shit. The cast was garbage, the two creators are more built then the actors. This is going to be more garbage just like the rest of Street Fighter Film history.

Given that they are going with origins, the body build of the actors don't have to be huge but they should be cut,very cut, in a Street Fighter Style and build.

From the actors they picked up, I don't see them doing any better. My expectation are very low, veeeeerrryyyyy low. Im sure Goken and Akuma will look even worst then Ken and Ryu did in that horrible short.
JULEZ13 - 7/13/2012, 11:03 AM
The little short film actually looked pretty good. The guy playing Ryu was in that Tekken movie that came out a few years ago - I know cuz I just saw it on TV the other day! xD

I hope this is good. We need more great video game franchises to be made faithfully and great on both the small and big screen.

I'll catch it when it comes out.
Greenman - 7/13/2012, 12:38 PM
God I hope this is good. Of any video game, street fighter should be given a great live action interpretation! Maybe it will lead to a new movie more like the SF2 anime movie from the 90's. Maybe that's just the SF fanboy in me though.
Baldbix76 - 7/15/2012, 11:57 PM
Has ANYONE noticed that at 3:12, Ken looks freakishly like Tom Cruise? Is it just me?
