POLL: What Did You Think Of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?

It's only been out three days, but judging from the spoiler discussion article the majority of you guys have seen Christopher Nolan's Batman swansong and are more than happy to discuss it. So, what's the verdict?

The Dark Knight Rises opened on Friday to rave reviews and very positive fan feedback to boot. But, not everyone loved Chris Nolan's final Bat-flick. Out of the few negative reviews, a handful were pretty scathing -- and if some of the comments I have seen on various different TDKR related articles are anything to go by, a few of you were very disappointed also. Of course there were those who had decided they loved/hated the movie before it was even released too, but here we want all of the feedback -- positive and negative.

We've kept it simple for the poll choices, but please elaborate in the usual place..

The Dark Knight Rises is out now, and if you haven't seen it -- even if you think you're sure you won't enjoy it, I recommend you give it a go. You can check out my 5 star review here.

How many times can you vote? There's 97 votes and only 4 comments?
TheAmazingAvenger - 7/22/2012, 5:03 AM
This movie was excellent. It's only real weakness is the lack of Joker, a mention or two couldn't have hurt the movie.
RorMachine - 7/22/2012, 5:05 AM
Musashi, I would assume that means not everyone who is voting is commenting..maybe?
MisterFixit - 7/22/2012, 5:05 AM
BE CAREFUL HOW TO ANSWER, THOSE
WHICH DO NOT LIKED THE FILM WILL BE LABELED INSTANTLY AS MARVELITES
musashi - 7/22/2012, 5:06 AM
@ror. I guess so. Just curious. :-)
marvelstudios - 7/22/2012, 5:08 AM
OMG the best movie. If i had to pick between this and avengers ill probably choose dark knight. nolan is a genius
brewtownpsych - 7/22/2012, 5:12 AM
TDKR is definitely the most fantastical of the trilogy. the sheer scope and epic quality of the story and timeline really made nolan stretch his "realism" in way that at times felt rushed or a little too, what shall we say, jettisoned in favor of convenience. the script doesn't fill in all the plot-holes as neatly as the prior films in the series, but most can be quickly explained with a little imagination on behalf of the viewer.

all in all still a totally enthralling affair wrapped up with all sorts of interesting themes about fear and sacrifice. I would give this move an A- right now, though my view on this film seems to oscillate wildly from moment to moment as everything i saw and heard at the movie theater continues to jostle around in my head.
musashi - 7/22/2012, 5:15 AM
@Ror By the way, the TDKR spoiler filled discussion forum was awesome! That's a great way to openly discuss each CBM. Look forward to the next one!! Thanks brother!
ImnotDaredevil - 7/22/2012, 5:17 AM
Loved it & a fitting end to a cracking trilogy. Couldn't help but think of theT.V. Batman running around trying to get rid of that bomb!
UltimaRex - 7/22/2012, 5:20 AM
Perfect counterpoint to the Avengers.

I wanted one great CBM this year. I got two.

I'm one happy larry right now.
skot888 - 7/22/2012, 5:21 AM
I hated this movie. :( I really wanted to like it and I still do but I fan boi Nerd rage can't get past the events in the beginning, The Alfred thing (the way it happened and the why's.) Not so much that it happened, and the end. I just can't maybe in a few months when it comes out on Blu-Ray I'll give it another go and be simmered down by then. :(
superotherside - 7/22/2012, 5:22 AM
Haven't watched it yet. Hope to soon.
AutobotCommander84 - 7/22/2012, 5:23 AM
I think it's kinda tied with TASM for me personally. I love them both and I can't really choose one over the other. But both are better than the Avengers for me at least.
brewtownpsych - 7/22/2012, 5:25 AM
Another angle one could use to evaluate this film is how well it ties up the trilogy. on this score i would give it nearly and A+ in the way it refers back to the original and TDK. For those of you who think that it didn't tie to TDK because of lack of a reference to the joker, one could argue that the joker's mad dog ethic was really crucial to creating the whole Harvey Dent lie Gordon was burdened with. The Joker was simply the man who wanted to watch the world burn that made Batman cross his own boundaries (or "shackles as Gordon says to Blake in TDKR), which in the end gave birth to the "dark knight" and hence the whole backstory of TDKR. So in that sense he had already served his purpose in the overall trilogy's arc. I also liked how Gordon's letter and the associated lie tied nicely to Alfred's lie involving Rachel's letter.

In terms of all time trilogies I would say:

1. LOTR
2. TDK
3. Star Wars (original)
MrCritic115 - 7/22/2012, 5:28 AM
@grif
What were you trying to prove? That deep down everyone is as ugly as you? You're alone!
Batman27 - 7/22/2012, 5:34 AM
It was great. We have the best Comicbook trilogy!
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/22/2012, 5:37 AM
I haven't seen it yet :(
WelcomeBackFrank - 7/22/2012, 5:42 AM
It was good not great for me. Full of numerous faults (expositional dialogue, randomness of characters popping in and out of the movie, too many Alfred crying moments, Bane dying like a bitch, a Catwoman that only resembled Catwoman in spirit not in costume). Otherwise, it was a decent closure to a fantastic trilogy.
buckshotenema - 7/22/2012, 5:42 AM
Overall this was a great film, I do have a couple of minor gripes though.

1.I know nolan doesn't do deleted scenes, but he should... could have been like half an hour shorter and still covered everything
2.Wayne is usually extremely paranoid, except with tate???
3.On that note, Cotillard is a great actress, just not in this, the later the movie the less believable she is.
4.My 4th is spoiler territory, so well Keep that for now.

I did enjoy the rest of the film, Bane's voice was only mildly upper crest brit...lol
MitchConner - 7/22/2012, 5:44 AM
Read Kevin McLovin reviews TDKR, I'll tell you I was looking forward to this film...let down.
Mk616 - 7/22/2012, 5:45 AM
Ive had a full day to think about it and I have to say that the movie was a disappointment. For any comicbook fan the big twist was a let down. We always knew who the triggerman was, Bane turned out to be a glorified henchman and the "pit" was a time out. Prison is a terrible place not somewhere to get your shit together and work out. The Movie has its bright spots with Hathaway, cool gadgets and cameos but ultimately its afraid to go where it promises. Social warfare and sacrifice are white washed and never fully explored.
brewtownpsych - 7/22/2012, 5:45 AM
the first bale/batman brawl was also total stylized brilliance. all wet leather and shadows set against no score and bane's sinister monologues ... wicked cool
MrReese - 7/22/2012, 5:47 AM
Great film. XD
NeoBaggins - 7/22/2012, 5:47 AM
THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY

"So that's what that feels like"-Batman
MitchConner - 7/22/2012, 5:49 AM
I mean honestly this is got to be the first time a mobile video game is better than its CBM.
MitchConner - 7/22/2012, 5:50 AM
@mk... I agree, nobody in our jail is getting the montage treatment, they're trying to hustle up moon pies and call their girlfriends
marcel - 7/22/2012, 6:00 AM
The sensational climax is one of the most satisfying endings i have ever seen and is where movies usually let me down. Damn good film
Kazzers27 - 7/22/2012, 6:01 AM
I have mixed feelings on this movie. I honestly think a second viewing will be in order. My biggest compliant is the lack of actually having Batman in the movie. In a movie that is 2 hour 45 minutes Batman I think is on screen for may 45 minutes.

My fear is this will become Superman Returns. Meaning when I saw that in theaters I was excited an thought it was great. When I saw it again and again after the hype you realize what I horrible movie that was.
CapeWing - 7/22/2012, 6:02 AM
The ONLY thing i would have done different is the end, that's it. Otherwise this is THE BEST Batman movie ever made. This entire series from Begins to Rises is going to set the bar for anyone else that tries to helm a Batman movie after this.
Jyoti - 7/22/2012, 6:03 AM
Great movie..., far far better than TASM but the avengers was f***ing AWESOME !!
riddlemethis09 - 7/22/2012, 6:09 AM
As of right now, I feel that I cannot vote yet. I think my decision falls between Very Good and Ok/Watchable.
The good parts for me were the fight scenes, how it took some major cues from comics arcs, and that it was a good finale to a trilogy.
Where it falls short I believe is due to one major part: I still cannot create a single sentence theme. In TDK, the theme circled around the "You either die the hero or see yourself live long enough to become the villian" idea. It was presented several times from different angles to finally show Batman's heroism as the "Dark" Knight. In TDKR though, there was no moment that I truly felt Batman was heroic. This was a war movie, not a hero movie.
I am going to see it again on Wednesday, perhaps my mind will be settled with a second viewing.
animeex - 7/22/2012, 6:13 AM
Great movie. Ann surprised me and did a great job. Had a feeling the ending would be what it was and I liked it!
WeR2Maro - 7/22/2012, 6:15 AM
Great film. But on the other hand this could be bad for WB/DC future projects . Nolan has changed the game for CBM's. We can only hope that MOS will deliver a good trilogy on the same scale as TDK. But WB trying to push this JL project has me worried. Marvel/Disney are doing a great job with their properties. But lets keep it DC for the sake of the thread. BRING ON SUPES!
JDUKE25 - 7/22/2012, 6:26 AM
@NeoBaggins haha loved that line
BenderDickCumPatch - 7/22/2012, 6:38 AM
7 more days though...
brewtownpsych - 7/22/2012, 6:41 AM
@riddle ... I think the theme is that fear is actually a potent motivater. Not fearing death doesn't make u brave ... it denies a fundamental element of the human spirit: survival and the ability to endure. Its life we should celebrate, not death or martyrdom. That's all alfred wanted for bruce, life. And conversely, ultimately the league only wanted death, even to the point of sacrificing their own lives.

Ha1frican - 7/22/2012, 6:47 AM
The last 5 minutes almost made me hate the movie best the rest was good. TDK 9.5 > Batman Begins 8.5 > TDKR 8 IMO. (Spoiler) The "Robin" thing and the idea of Btman quitting (while the latter dIt fit within did fit within the themes of the trilogy) were absolutely idiotic, but Alfred was amazing, catwoman stole the show, and Bane (whose voice worked in the low res 6 minute promo for me, ended up being really annoying by the end and not menacing) was pretty cool and a step up from Ras/ scarecrow but a step down from the Joker.
Ha1frican - 7/22/2012, 6:48 AM
That is after 2 viewings BTW
Bandrews1 - 7/22/2012, 6:51 AM
It was brilliant, Nolan definitely ended the trilogy with style and it almost makes you hate that there will be another reboot in a few years. Also Anne Hathaway atole the show and she is hands down the best Catwoman to date imho.
Ha1frican - 7/22/2012, 6:53 AM
I actually thought alot of the fighting was pretty bad actualy, if you watch Bane or Catwoman the fights are great but Batman is constantly throwing slow haymakers and he looks like he has no idea what he is doing. TBh he didnt really feel at all like Batman to me (and why is the stupid voice back?) Also i thought the suit looked really cheesy in the daylight, the last shot of Batman in "The Bat" looked like a mascara commercial. Dont get me wrong i liked the movie but it was a mix of awesome, meh, and facepalm
darkmetal - 7/22/2012, 7:21 AM
Great movie but my problems with it were:
1. Bane's end was like "Bye bitch!" It had no meaning.
2. Bruce's injuries. Bruce has a limp, no cartilage in his kness, shoulder and kidney problems, even post concussion problems and is crippled one second then its all gone.
Bruce then gets his back damaged in a deep stab wound but just walks it off.
3. No humor. No fun.
4. Batman/Bruce was a fool. Alfred could see Bane was LOS but Bruce wouldn't listen. Bruce was lured into a trap and betrayed by Selina. Bruce was betrayed by Maranda. Bruce's money was stolen from him. Bruce actually thought Alfred was lying about Rachel, and craps on Alfred's years of loyalty.
5. Batman's fighting was just typical brawling. At no time he he seem like an expert fighter or extremely dangerous man. He actually seemed the opposite.

The next guy up will hopefully do more with Batman/Bruce than make him a recipient of pain and anguish. And hopefully that director will not simply say Batman is a trained, Ninja level fighter but actually show Batman use advanced fighting methods, not yell out while throwing haymakers.
Spidey31 - 7/22/2012, 7:30 AM
If spider-man 3 didn't bomb then I would say TDK trilogy and The Spiderman trilogy would be tied. But SM3 did suck so the title to best CBM trilogy goes to TDK! We got 3 great CBMs this year let's be greatful.
figuresmaniac - 7/22/2012, 7:32 AM
Great movie but too bad Batman didn't show any detective skill.
Blake was more of a detective

figuresmaniac - 7/22/2012, 7:34 AM
@darkmetal : totally agree. I also hate that Bane was crying at the end.
iJackSparrow - 7/22/2012, 7:35 AM
The Nolans Spider-Man 3.

It's more entertaining to count the plot holes and eye rolls from characters delivering speeches instead of dialogues than watching the film itself. The 3rd film curse rages on.
