COMICS: Artwork For The JUSTICE LEAGUE/TRANSFORMERS Crossover That Nearly Was

Optimus Prime as a Green Lantern? Almost. Just before DC launched their "New 52", Chris Ryall of IDW and Phil Jimenez of DC Comics had pitched the idea for the crossover. It was sidelined, but you can check out some cool art past the jump..

Jimenez posted the pictures on his Facebook page, which means this is most likely now dead in the water. But I actually think it sounded like a decent idea, and the concept art is definitely interesting. What do you guys think?

Of course they had to can something that was a crossover of two of my favorite things of all time: G1 and DC.

with the success of tranformers as a franchise youed think dc would take a second look at this. Maybie somewhere down the line whenthe new 52 has officially sunk in they'll get back to more of this kind of stuff and maybie well see it someday.

That could've been really cool. Great artwork. I think Megatron would either be a yellow or red Lantern.

Sorry, I'm not all that knowledgeable on G1 - I can identify about ¾ of em, but who all is to the left of Sideswipe and Prowl?

@Vapes, yes DC stole that idea from the pioneers at Marvel. Just like Marvel stole the concept of a team-up from DC. Paybacks a bitch.

don't know about the pic of megatron holding supes cape. maybe he found it and was returning it cause no way in hell do any of the transformers stand a chance against superman

I really want this to happen, but seeing this makes me thankful that the costumes were updated. Also, Marvel doesn't have a monopoly on crossovers, so there's always hope.

I think DC and Marvel should pass on crossovers with smaller publishers for business reasons. Why help push IDW?

In the late 90's we had 2 Batman+Spawn comics that did nothing for Batman but were used by McFarlane to give the impression that Spawn was in league with Batman.

After Spawn's bubble burst and Spawn was revealed to be more in League with Doc Samson, Moon Knight, and Red Tornado, McFarlane recently tried for another crossover which very nearly happened and in essence would be like DC sticking a promo patch for Spawn on Batman's costume.

A JL + IDW crossover can really only help IDW build readership. It does nothing for DC.

I think that we will still get a crossover.

I really think that the New 52 and NOW are leading to a new Amalgam event.

Okay, while this sounds preposterous on a lot of levels, I DO love the idea of Optimus Prime being chosen to join the G.L. Corps, and the invisible-plane Transformer and Batwing Transformer are a masterstroke of awesome!

I wouldn't have minded seeing this as a stand-alone miniseries, like JLA/Avengers. As long as you don't have to acknowledge it in the regular titles, what's the harm?

I would've been all over this miniseries. At least when Marvel did New Avengers/Transformers, DC should've responded with Justice League/GI Joe.

That Avengers/Transformers crossover was awful. As much as I love seeing things cross over that was just stupid. Not that it didn't have potential, they just squandered it. With Phil Jiminez being involved, I have absolute faith that that could have been awesome. The image alone seems to show they were playing to the characters strengths - The hand of Unicron ala the Anitmonitor, WW's jet as a seeker, Aquaman fighting Piranhacon, and Optimus as a GL. It would be nice of DC gave this a second look.

I think that would've been awesome! It obviously would have been non-canon, which is a good thing.
