By Mark "RorMachine" Cassidy - 9/18/2012

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

Maybe Gandalf will remove his wrist watch in this one...

This is going to be beautiful.
HavocPrime - 9/18/2012, 3:37 PM
Going to be awesome
TheFox - 9/18/2012, 3:41 PM
Well, Gollum's looking a hell of a lot more realistic these days... I guess ten years worth of advances in computer animation will do that for you.

in the immortal words of Belloq when he opens the Ark of the Covenant: "BEAUTIFUL!"
Anthrax - 9/18/2012, 3:57 PM
gollum looks so freakin cute
NOID - 9/18/2012, 4:01 PM
So i gollum in all three movies?
Ha1frican - 9/18/2012, 4:03 PM
Gollum looks like a [frick]in goldfish. Don't get me wrong he looks good in just the context of this film but he isnt consistent with the prior films. I understand he is a bit younger but cmon.
Ha1frican - 9/18/2012, 4:05 PM
Reading my own comment i think its sounds a little bit more bitchy than i intended, he looks great but just not consistent which bothers me
marvel72 - 9/18/2012, 4:10 PM
@ Ha1frican

i believe he's 70 years younger, also the advances in cgi thanks to weta gollum probably looks different because of that.
Ha1frican - 9/18/2012, 4:13 PM
@Splenda @Marvel72 no i get it making him younger is fine, but why are his eyes 3 times the size they were before thats my only issue
HelaGood - 9/18/2012, 4:15 PM
so how come Weta can make something like Gollum and have it be so-[frick]ING-UH-MAY-ZING and then studios that do movies like Twilight turn out stuff that looks like utter shit?!?

that was completely rhetorical...
Ranger14 - 9/18/2012, 4:18 PM
I don't see where Gollum looks "inconsistent". He looks like Gollum to me. Who knows what the long term affect of the ring had on his appearance over the course of the years after the Hobbit? Everyone looks different when they are 60 years younger, let alone someone who is affected by the ring.

Eyes do change over the course of the years, though we don't have any reference to what a Gollum's eyes are supposed to do with age. :-P
spideyboy - 9/18/2012, 4:40 PM
Man... the nostalgia is about to kick in. I love the Lord of the Rings films so much, this looks just as promising! Can't wait for the trailer tomorrow.
SpiderManofHouseStark - 9/18/2012, 4:42 PM
wow ... i mean visually ... just wow!
logan71 - 9/18/2012, 5:01 PM

StarkAnthony - 9/18/2012, 5:08 PM
Actually the Gollum here looks much better to me than the pic from the other day
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/18/2012, 5:11 PM
I am sorry but I am just not pumped at all. It's Jackson so ik it will be amazing but I just don't really care.
Azazel1 - 9/18/2012, 5:12 PM
I have a feeling that while being a huge hit it is going to be lacking in comparison to the original LOTR movies

I just don't see The Hobbit translating on screen as well as the original trilogy ....
Newtsy - 9/18/2012, 5:21 PM
@Azazel1 ... oh, you will .... you will!
Maximus101 - 9/18/2012, 5:36 PM
Who gives a poop
REDSTORM - 9/18/2012, 6:53 PM
I cannot wait!
Maximus101 - 9/18/2012, 7:34 PM
@stigmartyr you got balls bud, you hate everything dc so who is the hypocrite? I like a wayyyy longer variety of movies then both you and yoss. This movie doesn't excite me at all it's going to be the same shit as LOTR.

@yoss no one was talking to you dumb dumb, I know I don't have a whole lot to contribute to these threads but you are just as useless as Grif on all threads.
P90 - 9/18/2012, 7:34 PM
People who say that Gollum looks "Too young" are forgetting that when he see him in LOTR he has been without the regenerative powers of the ring for YEARS AND YEARS AND has been tortured by Sauron.
OverlyManlyMan - 9/18/2012, 7:59 PM
This is going to be epic!
Maximus101 - 9/18/2012, 8:23 PM
I can call you whatever the #%ck I want, your a loser that trolls in every dc related article, grow the #%ck up and get a life kid you really need too. you clearly don't understand what trolling is cause I haven't trolled since before the avengers was in theaters.
Maximus101 - 9/18/2012, 8:28 PM
I never minded the LOTR trilogy, they were decent but too long but this hobbit movie really is going to be the same shit and if you guys don't see that one thing us wrong. I'm obviously going to see it cause I see everything in theaters but making a trilogy out of the hobbit is a money grab considering there was only one book.
SpideyQuad - 9/18/2012, 10:08 PM
Will the elve's sing to Bilbo and company?
Brady1138 - 9/18/2012, 10:09 PM
Gollum looks strangely...healthy.
SpideyQuad - 9/18/2012, 10:11 PM
Maximus, only 2-year-old's read DC, so you obviously need to grow up
Maximus101 - 9/18/2012, 10:18 PM
Your right im not, imnot in this thread talking about how it sucks and a different movie is better. An example would be me going into an avengers thread saying he the avengers sucks and TDKR is better, that's trolling. Not me saying that I'm not excited at all to see this movie at all and that it looks exactly like LOTR.

@spideyquad I don't read dc or marvel or any comics, I'm a nerd but not that nerdy lol I read actual books. I watch dc movies yes and marvel movies.

@yossarian - that gif you put up seems a lot like you and others with anything nolan or tdkr related. for over a year. hundreds of similar posts. am i wrong?

like, wow, totally, yoss is pooping on nolan and tdkr and their fans again for the umpteenth time? is that a surprise at all? hypocrisy abounding
Jollem - 9/18/2012, 11:33 PM
here, you did not. other places, many, many times. my point was, you say; "oh, look, so and so don't like this, go figure :p." have you forgotten the many times where you have specifically typed; "don't care" or "this is shit" or "[whatever movie or viewpoint] is the stupidest fricken thing" etc...

if you can't take the "poop", stay outta the bathroom? :)

Film of the year, along with Dredd of course.
BenderdickCumPatch - 9/19/2012, 4:13 AM
I wont watch the trailer, I'm already going to see it regardless.
CoulsonLives - 9/19/2012, 4:17 AM
This is now my new Precious
Facade - 9/19/2012, 4:43 AM
Not only does this look spectacular but it actually has a [frick]ing epic story.
Facade - 9/19/2012, 5:16 AM
@Ranger14...in reality, a humans eye size change very little from birth to old age. That's why babies appear to have such big eyes...small heads. Considering this is fantasy, hopefully Smaug won't produce con-trails during flight ;p

Hey Jollem, you sure you weren't reading my comments...because most of NOlan's acticles are something I don't care about..

Facts and opinions...two vastly different things..
Jollem - 9/19/2012, 2:10 PM
@yossarian -

"If someone else doesn't enjoy something I like, it has zero impact on me and my opinions."

this is not a true thing. i have seen you get pissy at people many times for saying negative things about things you like. for things not even remotely close as to what you have said

"But of course since I didn't care for "name of whatever movie someone loves here" I am the bad guy."

apparently you didn't understand. it's because you were being a jerk to a couple of people you have been jerks toward many times before. why can't they simply say their opinion on something without having that happen?

"I guess I just see the humor in it all."

really?

i see someone who wants to come off as a nice, fun-loving dude, but plays the part of the jerk, schoolyard bully very well. i read you dish it out hundreds of times, but you can't seem to take it at all

@SteveRogersSon -

"Hey Jollem, you sure you weren't reading my comments...because most of NOlan's acticles are something I don't care about.."

nope. and yes, that is extremely obvious :)

"Facts and opinions...two vastly different things.."

yes they are. were you trying to make a point? if so, i would like to hear it
Jollem - 9/19/2012, 2:40 PM
i don't have a problem with you, sir. you seemed like a more reasonable fellow to discuss your hypocrisy with rather than say, intruder/stigmartyr/whoeverelseheis. maybe i was wrong?

i like to discuss rather than make "snide comments"

you continue to have fun as well, good and kind sir
Jollem - 9/19/2012, 11:04 PM
no tabs being kept. you type things just like any other person can, and i remember stuff. sorry for having a memory. did i ever say that i know everything about you? and apparently, you are not reasonable :)
SteveRogersSon - 9/20/2012, 9:53 AM
