POLL: What Did You Think Of DREDD?

It may have had a pretty lousy opening weekend, but we were all big fans of Lionsgate's Judge Dredd reboot here at CBM. What about you guys? Did it deserve to do much better? Or is it a case of bad BO for a bad movie? Vote away..

We all know terrible movies can still clean up at the box office, but unfortunately it works the other way too sometimes. Pete Travis' Dredd failed to make so much as a whimper on its first weekend in the US (It did take the no.1 spot in the UK however), raking in a mere $6.3 million. We all think it should have fared MUCH better, but what about you you? Vote below and sound off in the usual place..

BattlinMurdock - 9/24/2012, 7:05 AM
The majority of the "glowing" reviews all just deem it to be passable, gory fun.

Nothing original, nothing sensational. Just surprising in the wake that it could have been awful.

I don't need to see a sequel, it wasn't as awesome as The Raid, and while it's sad a better-than-average movie didn't do great at the box office, there's really no harm done.
Tainted87 - 9/24/2012, 7:16 AM
I thought it was fun, but like BattlinMurdock, let it stand on its own merit. It doesn't need a trilogy, but it was neat watching a post-apocalyptic future without the premise being to try to restore civilization.

Next year, it'll be Mad Max, so I'm not weeping over it's box office failure, and it's guaranteed to make a killing in DVD sales.
plasticman - 9/24/2012, 7:18 AM
I don't think the market is there for a movie like this currently. I know that movies like this tend to do better around February or March. That may have been a better space to put it.

I'll probably see this movie eventually, but I can't say as if this was on my list of must-be-mades. It's not light hearted, so you can't bring the kids. There is no love interest, so its not a date movie. This is a late at night when the kids and wife go to bed type movie. Just like how I saw the Raid. And hereing the similarities from everyone makes me think I can wait even longer to see it.
plasticman - 9/24/2012, 7:19 AM
@Tainted87- I agree, this is a DVD movie, not a go to the theater and shell out my comic book money type event.
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:21 AM
Premise wise i prefered dredd to the raid
acrion wise i prefered the raid

both were good and both entertained me

the raid sequel sounds shit tho ;)
Nubase - 9/24/2012, 7:26 AM
this movie was never ever gona make a killing at the box office but what it has done is gain critical acclaim and the thumbs up from fans alike.

l just hope it has made enough to green light a sequel as the makers have already planned a trilogy.
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:27 AM
For me i diagree that this type of movie isnt worth a ticket

is it family friendly......no
but i sit through more kids stuff a year then anything else...the cons of being a parent

is it a date movie.....no
i pay for hookers....they should entertain me not the otherway around

its nice to have a lads movie where i can be me...not a parent or a sexualy frustrated husband

pub.......dredd..pub...curry

good night out

:p
RorMachine - 9/24/2012, 7:29 AM
Isn't it a date movie? Depends on the date, all of my lad-pals loved it.
jasonicus - 9/24/2012, 7:29 AM
Dredd was amazing. People need to stop wasting money on crap like House at the end of the Street and see this instead.
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:35 AM
Ror@ I call it male bonding...or a piss up :D
RorMachine - 9/24/2012, 7:37 AM
*lady-pals:)
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:39 AM
Ror@ aaahhh i was getting worried then you were asking your male friends to go on dates lol :P
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:39 AM
My lady pals charge me by the minute so movies are out of the question :)

2 minutes tops
MoodyMonkey - 9/24/2012, 7:47 AM
Awesome movie and did justice (sorry) to one of my very favourite fictional characters. hopefully the box office will pick up. Please get it watched cos i'm sick of hearing some CBM fans whingeing about not getting R rated/18 rated CBM's and then not seeing them when they come out!
teabag - 9/24/2012, 7:54 AM
Yos@ mmmm looks good...

Photobucket

:)
Nick56 - 9/24/2012, 8:04 AM
Haven't seen it yet but I want to
toco89 - 9/24/2012, 8:05 AM
@ teabag

No offense, but you're comments read like a woman trying to seem like a man.
gaikinger - 9/24/2012, 8:18 AM
Absolutely fantastic CBM second to none in my opinion. My favorite all time CBM since 300. Mesmerizing, atmospheric, gritty, and incredible roller coaster ride that had me grinning from start to finish. A man's movie made for men who like movies....its the Hungry Man movie.
Ranger14 - 9/24/2012, 8:23 AM
"but what it has done is gain critical acclaim"

I'm still trying to figure out how 6.5/10 overall average score translates to a movie be critically acclaimed. Yes, the fans for the most part seem to have liked it. I will be going this week to give it a shot.

toco89@ I take it you aren't overly familiar with Teabag? :-P
gaikinger - 9/24/2012, 8:24 AM
Who are these people chiming in their opinions and reviews without even having seen the film.....I mean what is that? Sorry but until you actually see it you really need to just shut the hell up! What do you even call that?
teabag - 9/24/2012, 8:30 AM
Toco@ Well the Mrs is a man trying to be a woman so perhaps im compensating :)

Yoss@ As a Man woman i can say i like nothing more then feeling my ring burn :D
jessepostal - 9/24/2012, 8:32 AM
saw it last night and was sad to say it was meh, i usually love this type of movie, but nothing stood out to me. There were some cool kills and gore but that was about it. The slow motion shots were a little too much at times. Typical B movie, like i said i usually love these movies, maybe ive just seen to many of them to think that this one doesn't offer much.
gaikinger - 9/24/2012, 8:35 AM
Teabag- I thought The Raid was just ok to be honest and I'm really not trying to ne cute about it because I'm such a big Dredd fan. Personally I' m not that big a martial arts fan...so that's just my taste and not a knock on this beloved movie. My question for you is....when you say you think the sequel will be s#!t ...is that a compliment or a slam? I'm curious as I here this expression from time to time and want to be clear.
jessepostal - 9/24/2012, 8:35 AM
@yoss, congrats. That looks like it'll clear out your system. Do i see northern beans in there?? and did you try the sazon??
teabag - 9/24/2012, 8:47 AM
Gaik@ nah bud i mean it sounds shit not it will be tha shit

aparently itl take place in differant locations over sevetal years while he is undercover.....for me the raid was good cus of the situation it was in so to completely change it makes it another crime thriller ;)

Splenda@ ;)

Ranger@ lol ;p
Ranger14 - 9/24/2012, 8:48 AM
"Who are these people chiming in their opinions and reviews without even having seen the film"

I hope you aren't referring to me as I didn't state my opinion or review on the movie. I simply questioned a statement made and posted a factual rating as to why. It has nothing to do with whether I saw the film or not.
jimoakley666 - 9/24/2012, 8:49 AM
[frick]ing amazing. Now, thing is, it wasn't as quality a movie as The Dark Knight Rises. But I enjoyed DREDD a lot more. Proper enjoyable B-Movie. I'm going to see it again this week.

Ranger14 - 9/24/2012, 8:53 AM
I was going to wait and rent it, but based on all the gushing here, I figured I will go see it in the theater. Tea and I have very similar views and perspectives on here, so I am going to trust his opinion on the film. Not sure I trust some of the others. Must be his "woman trying to sound like a man" vibe that leaves me vulnerable to his opinion. :-P
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 9:01 AM
I would love to see Urban on screen as Dredd again, I very much enjoyed the film.
WeAreVenom86 - 9/24/2012, 9:04 AM
Holy shitballs we loved this movie! It was definitely 100 times better than that campy Stallone film (Even tho we love Stallone films) and pretty true to the source material! It had the dark and gritty violence...the one line zingers...the dark humor.....it was Dredd...Karl Urban IS Dredd. We were deeply satisfied with this film...just sucked that it was so short.
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 9:05 AM
I love it "No offense @tea, but you are a woman"

if that is the case, you are definitely a lesbian with very good taste...
teabag - 9/24/2012, 9:08 AM
Ranger@ im under pressure now lol...but yeah bud we do generaly seem to be on the same page. Hop you enjoy it ;)

Sfc@ lmao ;)
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 9:08 AM
@plastic, no way you have a wife and kid, I remember your pics, you can't be older than 20... also, this is very much a theater movie unless you have one helluva home theater, like me, but I still go see everything at the cinema which doesn't make the bride very happy.
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 9:11 AM
Totally off point, but for those that haven't heard.. it took some convincing, but I finally mind-tricked someone into procrating with me ;)

Say hello to the newest Avenger!!!!

Molly Rae
OrsonRandall - 9/24/2012, 9:12 AM
Love this film, looked great in IMAX. I'm not usually a day one blu ray buyer, but need this in my collection.
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 9:18 AM
Thanks Yoss, she's a 1/4 Mexican so I'm pretty sure she'd love your chili.
teabag - 9/24/2012, 9:27 AM
SFC@ Congrats bud..she's gorgous...welcome to parenthood and financial ruin :D
LAXtremest - 9/24/2012, 9:34 AM
I love the no Schnider option lol! This movie was pretty damn good. A solid 8.5 out of 10 for me.
jimpinto24 - 9/24/2012, 9:34 AM
Dredd was awesomme! I wish it would have done bette at the box office. Dredd desevesa sequel.
thunderforce - 9/24/2012, 9:40 AM
I wonder if everyone is saving their money for the Avengers and that is hurting this movie .
LAXtremest - 9/24/2012, 9:40 AM

I can't wait for Ceejay to come in here and "educate" us.

gaikinger - 9/24/2012, 9:44 AM
I never go see a movie twice in the theatre...the last time I did I was 10 and the movie was Star wars and I think I saw it like eleven times. I watched Dredd in 2D so now I will go again and see it in 3D as everyone is saying that it utilizes the format well and it will probably be my only chance to see a truly bitchen movie in this unique way. Again Dredd doesn't need the gimmick as it is sensational ( ooh....perfect word ) on its own but a great excuse to see it twice. It will also definately get my Bluray money for a collector's edition.
teabag - 9/24/2012, 9:58 AM
Gaik@ Im not a big 3D fan but this definatly works in the format :)
plasticman - 9/24/2012, 10:24 AM
@tea- I already spent my night out alone without having to check in every couple of hours coupons on Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Spiderman, and John Carter. Dredd was too late in the year.

@Ror- I burned myself on the first movie I ever took my wife to. My question: Why ISN'T Starship Troopers a good first date movie? Henceforth, no more gory/action movies for date night. Instead I get to see such gems as Wanderlust or What to Expect. Am I living the dream? Yes, because I don't have to pay for doin' it and I can get it anytime I want (as long as Aunt Flow stays away).

Back to Dredd...give me a release date on video and I'll snatch it up for a all night caffinated movie marathon.
REDSTORM - 9/24/2012, 10:53 AM
Congrats to both Yoss for his chili and SFC for his child!

It's nice to see fellow reader's success in a an article about Dredd's lack-of success. :)
teabag - 9/24/2012, 11:07 AM
plastic@ You have sex!!??! bastard...tell me whats it like?? i heard it smells like buffallo wings in seaweed hot sauce!!

The great thing about having a Mrs who would rather brush her teeth with the cats anas then touch your penis is that i dont have to check in or get permission to go out get drunk and cry in a gutter ;D
ladder7 - 9/24/2012, 11:51 AM
unfortanetly they did the same thing to punisher warzone etc. as far as the little or no promotion im dissapointed the movie didnt do well i saw it and its awesome i feel its deserving of more seats being filled to see this its a shame though. i would really love to see ror or any of the cbm peeps do an article or get the inside scoop on why the movies get brushed off in the promos side of things i think it would be really interesting i remember ray stevenson saying that the promo for warzone was brushed off and even he didnt know what went wrong with the promotion for the film keep in mind cbm friends im not on the subject on which actor i want to play the punisher but only the subject on the half *ss promotion for dredd and punisherand so on please much respect guys thanks
ladder7 - 9/24/2012, 11:54 AM
i also have asked people if they seen dredd 3d yet and almost everyone has said to me who? what movie is that? is it out yet? funny i got the same thing with both punishers when they came out- whats up lionsgate? whats the deal? so far i only see this coming from lionsgate at times
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 12:15 PM
@Redstorm - Considering my Vikings completed dominated the 49ers, does that make us better than your beloved Pack??? I think so!

Also, it's too bad the Saints had to cheat because it would have been really cool to see Favre win a Lombardi Trophy with the Vikes ;)
SFCamerica - 9/24/2012, 12:20 PM
@Tea - Before I was even PVT America I asked my friend, who happened to be the first of my brotherhood to perform cunnilingus, what it tasted like. His answer? Salty rubber. I have never been able to get it out of my head since. Didn't help that it wasn't too far from the truth. ;)
