Seth Lochhead, the Canadian scribe who co-wrote the action thriller Hanna, has been hired to work alongside Josh Trank on the Shadow of the Colossus script. Justin Marks wrote an early draft back in 2009. Chronicle's Trank will also direct, but is apparently still attached to two Marvel comic book properties as well - Venom and the Fantastic Four reboot. The story of Shadow Of The Colossus deals with a young man who thinks his lover has died, and desperate to bring her back, he makes a deal with a demon resurrect her - but only if he slays 16 giant creatures known as Colossi first. Kevin Misher will produce the movie, with Misher Films’ Andy Berman and Kevin Chang overseeing.

@MarvelPsycho

Exactly my thoughts.

Good. Means he will probably be too busy to make FF
DrDoom - 1/7/2013, 7:18 PM
You know, considering how many projects this guy gets attached to without actually making them, I wonder if he's actually a sleeper agent sent by Marvel to sabotage the FF reboot.... here's hoping....

I still don't know how they're going to pull this off.
it's one dude and a disembodied voice,and the dude has to fight 16 giant monsters...ok
1) a movie with only one human protagonist is very tricky to pull off,not impossible,but certainly difficult.
2)how are they gonna cram 16 (assuming they use the 16 Colossi) action sequences in a 2/2 and a half hour movie?

still hoping for the best,because that's one awesome game.

@yossarian

It's the greatest game ever made. Legitimately. I honestly have no idea how they're going to make a movie out of it however, considering there's practically no spoken dialogue, and the small amount of dialogue there that is there is spoken in a fictional language.

@MarvelPsycho

The problem is that they might never have made a film studio in the first place. Regardless, given Disney's recent buying spree and Marvel's obvious interest in the FF license (remember the botched Galactus and Silver Surfer deal) there is hope that Disney might just buy the rights out from under Fox, or maybe Fox will run out of time. However, I cannot stomach another terrible FF movie and then have to wait SEVEN MORE GODDAMN YEARS for Marvel to get the rights back. The MCU needs FF NOW

Annihilus demands it!
robometrallador - 1/7/2013, 7:34 PM
no man, no gringo should ever direct this movie

chronicle was ok but no more than a 7 out of 10
YoungThanos - 1/7/2013, 7:55 PM
If Josh focuses on this film or any film instead of the Fantastic Four. Josh I promise I'll watch it twice! Just please let the rights to FF go back home....then we'll talk about directing it.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/7/2013, 7:55 PM
Yes! I too hope FOX loses the FF rights! If Marvel where to do the reboot, Annihilus SHOULD be the first villain they fight!
ATrueHero1987 - 1/7/2013, 8:02 PM
I'm tempted to tweet Mark Miller to let him know.lmao

Sweet! Come on home FF!!!

@Ciph...Deus Ex is being made. The script is by Massaworm(Carglyle)

i have a feeling trank's ff movie will be better than most movies produced through marvel studios
ScabbyJ - 1/7/2013, 10:08 PM
This will be good. It needs to be artsy, silent, and emotional. Wall-E did a good job with no dialog through the first 2/3, as did UP with the first 10 minutes. It's all about the acting, direction, cinematography and score. Needs absolutely beautiful imagery. I say 3D will help greatly in this instance. Artsy 3D, like Dredd.

I too agree, the desert collision was unexpectedly "epic" if ever there was a proper use of the cliche.

Colossi

Shadow of the colossus movie....sign me up. gonna grab my ps2 and play this wonderful symphony of a game.
my favourite Colossi is (prepare to hate me) the water eel. only cause my buddies couldn't take it down and i stepped in and showed them how it's done.

@AcidicHeart we WILL have our first family back!
charlie2094 - 1/8/2013, 12:12 AM
@cipher

A Deus Ex: Human Revolution film is already being made.
Kyos - 1/8/2013, 4:22 AM
Shadow of the Colossus is probably my favourite game of all time. Every PS3 owner should give the HD remake a try! (try ICO as well)

That being said - I have zero faith they can make a decent adaptation. If everything works out fine we get a unique movie with really great visuals, but without the element of player involvement a lot of the impact of the experience is lost imo.
Godzillafart - 1/8/2013, 6:19 AM
Seems like a bad idea all around.
NathimusPrime - 1/8/2013, 8:49 AM
never really liked this game, ico was much better

never played these games i was always a Nintendo/Xbox person, but i have heard great things.
Gamester76 - 1/9/2013, 8:43 AM
@Spidey91 - They'll have to follow the 11th Commandment of Movie Making: The 11-Minute Rule; I.E. an action sequence every eleven minutes. It's a real thing: time Joel Silver movies like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon and youll see.

With Shadow, if they follow that rule, they'd be looking at just under 3 hours for all 16 Colossi.

11x16 = 176
176/60 = 2.93 hours = 3 hours

You'd be looking at a video game movie on a Lord of the Rings-scale epic. And I'm okay with that.
