Taye Diggs Has Hopes To Play 'Luke Cage' In The MARVEL Universe

Last night, Idina Menzel's (Frozen) spouse Taye Diggs made his way to the Conan O'Brien show, where he was asked about what superhero he wishes to play in a live-action film or TV show. He answered 'Luke Cage' and you can see the full conversation after the jump!

During last night’s Conan O'Brien Show, O' Brien brought on Taye Diggs (The Best Man and spouse of Idina Menzel), and the actor revealed which role  he hopes to play in the future.

To start off, Conan asked Diggs if he would like to play a superhero. To no surprise, Diggs replied, "I would love to. That’s one of the things that I haven't gotten to do yet. Just to be able to do that, you know, when they're flying, and then they land, you know what I'm saying."

O' Brien then asked if there was any particular superhero he wanted to play. Taye answered "Luke Cage. You ever heard of that? I've always liked that. Just you know, growing up a poor black boy, you gravitate to the black superheroes. And that's why I really loved Django Unchained. Growing up, you never got to see the black dude shoot up the white people and ride away. You never got to see that. He’s always the buddy or the dude giving his life away."

He continued to speak about Django Unchained, saying "I want to thank Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino for making that movie, because little boys that were like me have something to aspire to. I mean not that I'm telling them to kill a bunch of white people. [Laughing] Don’t kill a bunch of white people."

As we all know, 'Luke Cage' is being developed as a TV show in part of Marvel/Netflix, so someone will get the opportunity to play the hero very soon. Could or should it be Diggs? Let us know below!

I think they should do a gender swap. Change the name to Lucy Cage, and have Ving Rhames play her.

Doopie - 7/25/2014, 7:42 AM
a bit short maybe?
CherryBomb - 7/25/2014, 7:44 AM
No chance.
No one cheats on Idina Menzel and gets a Marvel role.

Cles - 7/25/2014, 7:46 AM
@Doopie I tend to agree. That and his voice doesn't hit it for me. Luke should be a wall of a man with a big of bass tone in his voice.
WorstUserNameEver - 7/25/2014, 7:46 AM
Cage needs to be BIG!
WYLEEJAY - 7/25/2014, 7:46 AM
Does he know anything about Luke Cage? Cause....he doesn't fly, or shoot white people.
TheAbaryMan369 - 7/25/2014, 7:46 AM
Too short. Sorry.
Maven - 7/25/2014, 7:48 AM
Cage is going to be the hardest to cast and deliver.

It wasn't going to take long before someone mentioned Terry Crews in this thread, so I will go ahead and throw his name out there again. One question remains, though, "Is he too old to play that part?" Discuss.
Doopie - 7/25/2014, 7:53 AM
Cage needs to be a badass mother[frick]er. That's a must.

as for not seeing blacks shoot up whites - maybe not in the media but he coulda just looked out the window

*runs from thread to hide*

I don't think crews is too old at 45 to play cage - he is fit as all hell and certainly looks the part. I have my doubts about his acting ability though
HurricaneXavier - 7/25/2014, 7:55 AM
No. This would be a terrible choice.
superotherside - 7/25/2014, 7:56 AM
Sorry dude. You came up on the short end.

;P
GinjaNinja - 7/25/2014, 7:56 AM

xfan320 - 7/25/2014, 7:57 AM
Pretty sweet posters! ^^

Also, I'm kinda feeling a Quentin "Rampage" Jackson vibe for LUKE CAGE..

Or what about Kevin Grevioux (the huge scary black guy/Lycan from the 'underworld' films..??

A troll has arrived with his Tourette's postin.

Anyhow, I say nah. Not a bad actor, but not right for the role,
jazzman - 7/25/2014, 8:02 AM
HELL TO THE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

what about Omari Hardwick
DrKinsolving - 7/25/2014, 8:03 AM
Unless he really bulks up or something, I don't see it
Doopie - 7/25/2014, 8:03 AM
My requirements for Luke Cage:

6'3" - 6'5"

220-250+lbs

Good acting ability - needs seriousness with some attitude whilst keeping a little humour

30-45 years old

Be Black

Nic Cage. He was born to play him, he even has the same last name

jazzman - 7/25/2014, 8:10 AM
@Gandhi

nic cage changed hes last name to cage cause he is a fan of Luke Cage.
Alfredo27 - 7/25/2014, 8:14 AM
I see him as a gay version of luke cage without the bulk or muscle mass.
pestulio07 - 7/25/2014, 8:15 AM
Shut up, Taye Diggs. WE NEED TERRY CREEEEWS!!!
jazzman - 7/25/2014, 8:17 AM
@pestulio07

OMG that pic
JackofallTrades - 7/25/2014, 8:18 AM
Good actor, but ima agree with everyone else, no. Terry Crews or a Terry crews type actor would be cool.

HubisKhan - 7/25/2014, 8:18 AM
Taye Diggs as Luke Cage. I would approve!
pestulio07 - 7/25/2014, 8:20 AM
@jazzman Right?! He was born for the role!
ggo2588 - 7/25/2014, 8:20 AM
Gain 8" height, gain 150 lbs, of muscle mass and then maybe...maybe.
TheBlasi - 7/25/2014, 8:20 AM
TERRY CREWS AS LUKE CAGE!
Phronesis - 7/25/2014, 8:23 AM
Nope.
MercwithMouth - 7/25/2014, 8:23 AM
I still want Michael Jai White. He'd be just as good as Terry Crews, and he's a better actor.
RedNTheHood - 7/25/2014, 8:24 AM
If Downey wasn't Iron Man....

But in all seriousness, Anthony Mackie would've been perfect!!!
