SPOILERS: Why Thea Queen Could Still Be 'Speedy' In ARROW

With Colton Haynes most likely playing the role of 'Arsenal' in the CW's Arrow, I present some reasons why Willa Holland's 'Thea Queen' still has the possibility of playing Oliver's other sidekick, known as Speedy. Read on After the Jump!

Fans of Green Arrow comics know that Oliver Queen has several sidekicks, one of his them being known as Speedy. During Season 1 of the fan-loved show Arrow, the name Speedy was used many a time, all referring to Oliver's sister, Thea. But when Colton Haynes' Roy Harper moved into the show, chances that Thea would be Speedy started slimming down. But don't fret, as I'll give you some reasons why Thea could still play Speedy, taking my ideas both from the Comic books, as well as the show. WARNING: This will contain SPOILERS. So, shall we begin?

Reason 1. There Is More Than One Version Of Speedy.

Everyone knows that there is a 'Speedy,' but what you may not have known, is that there are more than one version of him/her. The most popular portrayal of Speedy is Roy Harper, who is in the show being played by former Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes. In the comics, Roy grows up, and takes on the identity of Red Arrow, or in other comics, he becomes Arsenal. In the show, it appears as if Roy will be immediately putting on the mask, and becoming Arsenal, which leaves the name Speedy out for grabs. The other version of Speedy is known as Mia Dearden, who appeared in Season 9 of Smallville as played by Elise Gatien and was trained by Oliver. Maybe I'm just jumping at every chance I get, but while the name is different, Mia and Thea does sound an awful lot alike...

Reason 2: Roy Won't Keep His Mouth Shut For Long.

In the latest episodes of Arrow, Roy Harper has found out the true secret of the Arrow's identity, and Oliver non-surprisingly tells Roy to keep it secret. But working with Thea, and knowing how he hasn't done a great job at keeping secrets in the past, I'm sure something will let loose from his lips about Oliver's secret identity.

Reason 3: ARROW Is Confirmed To Receive A Third Season

In more recent news, the high-rated show Arrow got confirmed to receive a third season (Check it out here), which gives us plenty of time to bring in Thea as Speedy, therefore giving Oliver his three most popular sidekicks, which are Arsenal (Roy Harper), Black Canary (Sarah Lance, with the possibility to change), and Speedy (Thea Queen).

So those are my thoughts on why Thea Queen should become Speedy in CW's Arrow. Did you enjoy them? As always, leave your thoughts in the usual place!

I agree. I don't have a problem with Thea being Speedy, but I do want Diggle to become his own hero! I want Diggle to be Arsenal or Red Arrow.

Also Colton Hayne is no longer with Teen Wolf, from what I know, so that'd make him: "former Teen Wolf Star".

@yonny616 Thanks for that tip.

Good theory.

Don't forget that in the Kevin Smith run on Green Arrow, he had a young female he was training to be a new Speedy. I think he even named her that.

You might even be able to go the Artemis route from Young Justice.

But in reality, I hate it whenever she comes on the screen, I use that time to go the the bathroom or I just fast forward the dvr.

Sorry, I had to look up Speedy to figure out who that character was. Turns out it was Mia. Below is from Wiki:

Mia Dearden was introduced in Green Arrow (Vol. 3) #2 in 2001. Mia was a teenaged girl who ran from her home after being abused by her father and fell into child prostitution. Mia was rescued from one of her clients by Oliver Queen, who had just recently returned from the dead. Mia continued to try to convince Oliver, who was busy trying to reconstruct his own life, and began to secretly train with Connor Hawke in archery and combat. Mia continually petitioned Green Arrow to allow her to serve as his sidekick, but Oliver continually demurred, not wanting to put another youngster at risk. Mia redoubled her efforts and Green Arrow finally allowed her to become the new Speedy. Shortly thereafter, she joined the Teen Titans but has since left the team.

Oh man, I hope so. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN

I know the original idea was to have Thea as Ollie's sidekick, Colton Haynes said that in an interview. I'd like to see Diggle either become Arsenal or something big happen to him. You know it's not going to stay Oliver, Diggle and Felicity forever.

Well Thea's full name is Thea Dearden Queen as well so that combined with the nickname "Speedy" it's obvious that is one place that they could head with her character.

Like the above poster said, it's worth noting that Thea's name is Thea Dearden Queen. We all know shes not a Queen (as she is Malcolm's daughter), so she may drop the Queen name when she gets mad at Moira. She wouldn't take on the name Merlyn that's for sure.. so she could easily change her name to Thea Dearden.. close enough to Mia Dearden for me.

I get speedy whenever I see Thea.

I really didn't like Thea in the 1st series but she's become less annoying as time's gone on.

I think she will become...something...but not sure what. But I do think the revelation that Merlin is her dad will be what starts her off on a new path. Added to that, she will surely find out Roy is juiced up and now a (red) vigilante (and therefore find out Ollie's secret too) and we just may see Speedy after all...or something. I have a sneaking suspicion either Roy or Thea will be turned to the dark side by Slade/Waller. My money is on Roy

Can she please gain some freakin weight?
BlackIceJoe - 2/21/2014, 11:29 PM
I would have no problem with Thea becoming Speedy. Having her become Speedy would also make her character more interesting. Plus in the comics Roy had a drug problem and in the past Thea had a drug problem. So if Thea starts using again it will be like when Roy was called Speedy and he used Speed. But this time it's Thea instead.
