Brand New Images From Sam Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

A couple of new still photos have been released from Walt Disney Pictures & Sam Raimi's fantasy adventure film, Oz The Great and Powerful. Hit the jump to check then out...

“Oz The Great and Powerful” imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff, Oz The Great and Powerful is set to hit theatres on March 8, 2013.

Awesome. Can't wait for this. Hope they do sequels to this which adapt more books but take out all of the pacifism.

retr0g0dfather - 11/12/2012, 5:48 AM
Ok, so this is a prequel to the original. I thought it was a remake. I hadn't realized that The Wizard and Dorothy both came from Kansas?
JatevinM - 11/12/2012, 5:51 AM
Only problem with it is it reminds me too much of Alice in Wonderland
Super12 - 11/12/2012, 6:15 AM
I'd like to see this expand to include more of the books. Anyone else seen the 1985 movie Return to Oz? Very underrated classic

That picture of Weisz and Kunis. Hell yes. The rest of it looks like a shit storm of CGI.
Dechiriko - 11/12/2012, 6:55 AM
sooooooooo fake !!! Sure, the original relied too much on matte painting, but back then it was ok to look like that, but this is ridic

@Super12, I remember the guys rolling around on all fours with single wheel roller skates lol and the room full of emerald things that she had to find the right one. I watched that a lot as a kid

the firsts two pictures look [frick]ing beautiful.

raimi is much better at making something feel like it's on an epic scale and all grand and everything.

that's one of the things i hated about webb's film. it was personal. but the final act didn't feel like enough of an epic showdown for a spidey film.

anyways, i'll probably check this film out. not a fan of franco, but weisz and kunis make up for it.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 11/12/2012, 9:41 AM
I'm not trying to hate but I liked Sam Raimi better when he wasn't trying to be another Tim Burton.:/

Looks really good. I'm not a big SFX centred film fan, but this one looks like it might have something special.
