New Pics Of Radagast, Elrond & Thorin From THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Some New Zealand stamps commemorating Peter Jackson's new Middle Earth trilogy reveal a few nice stills of Radagast The Brown (Sylvester McCoy), Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). There's also a new banner featuring Bilbo, Gandalf and the Dwarves..

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Once again, big thanks to Jonas Jakobsen for the heads up. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

sweet! cant wait for this! wanna see how they expanded Radagast's role...
SpideyQuad - 10/5/2012, 9:58 AM
It looks the same as Bofur's to me. I wonder if there is a reason, like the hat style stands for something like ones beliefs may be?
DoctorDoak - 10/5/2012, 10:41 AM
@SpideyQuad: No.

@monkeyballs: To also add to your earlier comment on a side note, I'm afraid Radagast will be a sort of comic relief in the film, unfortunately :( An interview I read described Sylvester McCoy as playing him in "comedic glory," and that he has three little birds that live in his hat, causing him "all kinds of problems." They also mention him riding, and I quote, a "bunny-pulled sled." It seems like Peter Jackson is really taking even bigger liberties with the lore this time around.

Why on earth should Radagast be a comic relief? Though I was irritated Gimli was a comic relief in LOTR as well (don't think many share that opinion).
Ariakas - 10/5/2012, 11:35 AM
Agreed, Fellowship was truly near perfection. Two Towers was mostly good, Return of the King was mostly awesome but made some descisions which ruined it into disgrace.
Rothwilder - 10/5/2012, 11:58 AM

I was saying exactly your first point in the last Hobbit thread.

Your last statement is spot on.
Ariakas - 10/5/2012, 3:56 PM

Where in the book was he not depicted serious?
FoxForce5 - 10/5/2012, 11:46 PM
My god! Radagast looks like a filthy, crazy hippie which just shows why Saruman and Gandalf ascended to white wizards while Radagast (and possibly the blue wizards) stayed at a lesser class. At least Radagastwe made it to brown though and at least we'll get to see him so I'm psyched, no matter what! Now bring on the rest of the White Council...
