The Dark Knight Images and Cain on Joker

As I Am Legend draws ever closer to cinemas and with it our preview of Batman the Dark Knight, the spoilers, opinions and photos seem to come swifter and faster. This be the case, with six new publicity shots and some interesting ramble from Michael Caine on Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker.

The good people over at Uruloki had managed somehow to get their hands on some publicity shots, showcasing one of Batman and 5 of the Joker. And while the photos have been taken down from the Flickr account, we’ve got them here for your enjoyment.

Also, Michael Caine, who plays the role of Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler and confidante, has once again opened up about Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker. In the wake of Jack Nicholson’s tantrum at not being asked to reprise the role, or give his advice, the comments seem placating; as if someone asked Caine to smooth over some ruffled feathers.

Speaking to Empire: "Now, we have had Jack Nicholson, who is one of the greatest Jokers and one of the greatest characters in this kind of movie. I have worked with Jack and I know him really well. You do not really want to follow Jack into anything. Unless it's a nightclub...Heath Ledger stunned me.

"Jack played The Joker as sort of a benign nasty clown - like a wicked uncle. Heath plays him like an absolutely maniacal murderous psychopath. You have never seen anything like it in your life. He is very, very scary. I turn up every month or so and do a couple of bits then go back to London.

“I had to do this bit where Batman and I watch a video which The Joker sends to threaten us. So I'd never seen him, and then he came on the television in the first rehearsal and I completely forgot my lines. I flipped, because it was so stunning, it was quite amazing. Wait until you see it, it's incredible."

Now, speaking for myself alone, paying homage to an actor who didn’t necessarily pull off a brilliant performance 18 years ago is not necessary. Yes, Nicholson played a good role, but he definitely wasn’t the be all and end all of the Joker character. But, who am I?
