Louis Leterrier has come clean and told us that the scene between a suicidal Bruce Banner and Captain America will take place in the Arctic somewhere, but that it was cut from the movie. We here at CBM are theorizing that Bruce will find the frozen form of Cappy stuck in ice--just like in the comics.
As readers of Marvel Comics know well, Captain America is alive today only due to a freakish miracle. During World War II, he was involved in an accident involving an airplane. He plunged into icy waters where his body was frozen, only to be thawed out many decades later when the original Avengers find him floating in the ocean. Or at least, that's the way Stan Lee and Jack Kirby presented it in the comics. (See comic screencaps to the left for the whole story)
Here is what Leterrier actually said:
"There's a point when Bruce Banner gives up on his quest for the cure and decides to kill himself. So he travels far North and reaches the Arctic Circle. You might have seen bits of it in some of the promos. The result was a very dark and strong scene, which Marvel, me and everyone else considered to be too hard to young audiences to take, so we've cut it. Having that said, when Bruce arrives at his destination he meets up with Captain America! At some point this week, we will make it available on the internet – but I cannot tell you where or when – and the material will definitely be on the DVD."
So now that we know Bruce and Cap "meet up" in the frozen north, more than likely the cameo will basically be Bruce finding a block of ice with a body in it. When you think about it, it's brilliant! Not only does it make sense that Bruce would try and off himself via hypothermia, where his anger/stress levels wouldn't be thwarting his intent by changing him into the Hulk, but an ice-to-face meeting (instead of face-to-face) meeting with Captain America incased in ice won't entail Marvel chosing the actual actor who will play him in the movie--since it is still in the planning stages and no actor has been chosen. Like I said, BRILLIANT!
